Judging by trailers and reviews, I simply don't get what makes this game so good.
It's literally the 3rd highest ranked game on Steam ever, though, so it's probably just me.
The thing is, I usually like fast paced games like CoD, CS, and FIFA.
I have close to zero experience with games that require patience, and I'm wondering whether I should just give this game a try or if there's really no point.

It has a fuck ton of content which is its biggest strength imo. It's not 2D minecraft even though it might look like it or people say it is. There are lots of goals and progression with lots of bosses and interesting shit to do.
The weakest part of it is the combat which is only kind of shit in the early game. It gets more interesting later when you find all the cool shit.
It's probably so high on Steam just because of the cost to value ratio. Most people got this game for $5 or less and have hundreds of hours in it.

Is it easy to get into?

It is relatively easy to get into but without guides you will be lost not knowing what boss to do next and how to summon them. There aren't any complicated concepts or anything it's just a chill game. Not too difficult too

Yes it is easy to get into, it does get a little challenging at points for sure. Part of it depends on your luck on finding good shit. Using a guide to understand how the progression works isn't a bad idea if you want to get the most out of it. terraria.gamepedia.com/Guide:Game_progression

it has a bunch of high fast paced moments with events like bosses or blood moon than theirs also lots of down time where your mining or building a base. its a super comfy game , defiantly one id recommend to people who arn't usually into the "minecraft" survival type games.

>I simply don't get what makes this game so good.
It's just a comfy game where you dig for shit, build whatever shit you like, and fight bosses you can find/summon and events that happen. And it has a billion mods that add more content. It's better to play with a friend though

>The thing is, I usually like fast paced games like CoD, CS, and FIFA.
There is no hope for you, move on.

Yeah just don't go straight into expert mode your first playthrough

>fast paced games like FIFA.
lmoa

>Fast Paced
>Fifa
Pick one op

I recently tried to get a friend into it and he didn't like it. Even before he tried it he kept going on about the "gameboy graphics". I don't understand

>literally

is summer over ?

If you can't play fast even with a relatively cheap team, then that's on you. I miss FIFA 17-19 tho, those were the days.

>play game first time
>ez.jpg
>set settings to expert mode and mediumcore not realizing mediumcore was literally artificial difficulty incarnate
Fucking hell I spent more time trying to recover my items instead of playing the actual game. Now I'm stuck at the Golem because no armore can make me last long enough to get its last 500hp to 0

This. The weird thing about Terraria is that you're almost required to check the wiki for progression at points.

what games does he like?

>stuck at fucking golem
your probably severely undergeared, whats your armor/weapon?

Shroomite set and an Unreal megashark with Venom Bullets

>All these "You need a guide" posts
Fuck off, 1. Theres literally a guide in game and nods from every npc on what to do next, and 2. A good portion of the shit is triggered automatically at your own pace of self progression and 3. Expert mode literally is extra content with virtually no to unnoticeable changes worth anything unless you like a gimped mode with nothing to do. You should be telling people to make softcore characters instead since that actually fucks with the game and your enjoyment for a first-timer

I'm starting to think that Shroomites are a fucking downgrade instead

terraria is one of the most immersive, comfy games to ever exist

i fucking hate minecraft, starbound, etc, but terraria somehow broke the curse and is actually just a really fun sandbox game

>The thing is, I usually like fast paced games like CoD, CS, and FIFA.

>softcore
THIS
FUCKING THIS
I've lost my horseshoe because i didn't go softcore, now there's nothing I can do about it

>The thing is, I usually like fast paced games like CoD, CS, and FIFA.
Legit laughing over here

have you tried making potions? the bonus 8 def from simple shit like ironskin can go a long way
other than that i have no advice. I havent played in a while but i recall golem being far easier of a boss than plantera
maybe its because im a meleefag who could literally sit on top of the boss and not take damage but i dunno

Maybe you're right and I should just switch to melee. Ranged sets make you feel like melted butter against bosses.

>cod
>fast paced

The hardest thing the game does not tell you and the thing I learned from Yea Forums is that you can make arenas to fight bosses with and that this significantly makes bosses much easier unless you want to fight bosses from corners and constantly trying to dig and run away. Yea Forums even says it's basically a requirement for hardmode.

How do I get new town people to not move into my house?

probably not worth it this late in the game, farming for the melee set for this point in the game (turtle armor) is a fucking chore
the best melee weapon right now requires you to follow a long crafting tree that isn't worth it unless you were trying to build it the whole game
are your accessories reforged to Warding? I know im being a bit redundant about optimizing defense but every little bit helps because defense is literally 25% more effective in expert

Just take off their head from the housing menu.

sonyygger, play the fucking game. It has good vibes.

Don't put a chair in your house. Terraria doesn't let you sit in them anyways.

the first npc in the game helps you craft whatever you want. Just put an item into his box and you can see what it can be crafted into. no wiki required. if you want to turbo through the game, sure, the wiki helps. but the best thing about the game is you can just play it, bring loot back to base, and see what new stuff you can craft.

Yes. Wings, Boots, Regeneration and 2 shields (6 def each) and that one emblem upgrade
I blew my load on accessories to turn them into warding. My real problem is that I can't dodge fast enough when the yellow eye lasers turn into a machine gun and I get melted at the very end.

Technically it can be slow, but I never seem to notice. I just lose track of time when I play Terraria.
You can speed through the game pretty easily if you want.
Fish skycrates.

>tfw the reason we lose track of time in Terraria is because you're almost always underground where you don't see the day/night cycle
Unless you're some pleb who carries around a pocket watch.

ever since 1.2 its been ridiculously easy, expert mode is just cheap

>The thing is, I usually like fast paced games like CoD, CS, and FIFA.

Is warding better? i've been doing move speed

Yeah, it's a pretty massive increase in survivability.
I guess you could go damage if you want to be a glass cannon, but movespeed is trash.
But don't worry about minmaxing, the game isn't that hard, just have fun.

warding is the only enchant worth re rolling for on trinkets, at least when you're trying to push bosses.

Calamity server when?

Delet

minecraft for people with shitty computers

calamity is shit

What's the deal with Calamity (and other mods)? Just more grindan?

Calamity started as post moon lord content but now has stuff for every stage in the game.

If worth at least a look at but be warned the Calamity stuff makes the vanilla bosses ezpz

I see. What about the other mods listed (Thorium, Spirit, Tremor)?

I might be retarded but the game feels unintuitive to me. Minecraft is more straightforward in the sense that I never wonder what or how to do something. With Terraria I know what I want but I don't know how to do it. I kept getting frustrated at building walls and interacting with the background, inventory management/crafting and just the sidescrolling in general. If I want to build a dirt house or a small tower in MC I can do that in 10 minutes without ever having played the game before.
I'm not saying Terraria is a bad game obviously some people love it but I've had it in my library for over a year and never managed to enjoy myself with it.

thorium is pretty much dlc to terraria. spirit is like that too but it doesnt get updated anymore and the content is just mediocre. tremor is shit

I like thorium.

Walls are pretty unintuitive, I'll give you that.
