You already did

t.arcade golden age

>2000s
>90s

>80s

What did I win?

Here's a non-meme answer:

90s up to mid 2000s
The rest

90s > 00s > 10s >/= 80s

The fact that the box for 2010s is smaller than the rest really irritates me.

late 90s > early 2000s > early 90s > late 2010s > late 2000s > early 2010s

80s games are a little before my time

Correct opinion here
2000's were slightly less soulful than the 90's but had the tech to make up for it. 80's had soul but everything looked like ass and was bloated with terrible shit that nearly killed the industry

90s
00s
80s
10s

2000s > 90s > 80s >>>>>>>>>> 2010s

It'll be fixed with patches and DLCs.

Late 90s = Early 00s > Early 90s > Late 00s > Late 80s > Late 10s > Early 00s

The early 80s is too primitive to compare to the others so I excluded it from the list, the gaming was at the peak in the late 90 - the early 00s, and the early 10s was literally the bottom of the downhill.

Attached: boxes.png (566x745, 19K)

95% of video games made before 1983 aren’t worth playing

hard to say, I might swap 80s with 90s, the 90s had some amazing stuff, even if the 80s were pretty damn radical for games. Otherwise it would be okay.

>80s was bloated with terrible shit

What, you mean 80-83 and only in America and only on consoles? That alone drags down the entire decade? Please tell me more.

00s, 10s, 90s, 80s

80s wasn't that bad, but there really wasn't a ton there. There's also a lot of NES games with intentionally cunty design choices, like Castelvania 3 being made harder in the west so kids couldn't rent it and beat it.

90s and 2000s were full of innovation and super fun games, 2000s just had a bit more polish due to people having more experience with 3D.

Should be noted 2010s AAA games are too horrible to stomach and if that was the emphasis even the 80s would be better.

Attached: 1565717468729.png (245x292, 6K)

Change is inevitable, millennials.

Name one game from the 90s worth playing today

You can't divide it up by decades, too arbitrary. It's better to go by the peak years of each console era, and rank those.

1st gen: 1973-1977
2nd gen: 1977-1985
3rd gen: 1985-1991
4th gen: 1991-1996
5th gen: 1996-2001
6th gen: 2001-2006
7th gen: 2006-2013
8th gen: 2013-present

Attached: Ninja Gaiden 2 cover.jpg (1600x998, 562K)

2000's > 1990's > 2010's > 1980's

there are great games and consoles from every decade

Attached: Untitled.jpg (312x440, 35K)

6 > 5 > 4 > 8 > 7 > 3

Is there seriously any game from the 80's that can stand up to a modern AAA game with current production values and game length? I get this place is filled with contrarians but come on now. If all the games from every decade came out for the first time tomorrow, would anyone even give a shit about the 80's games?

6>8>7>>everything else

*82-84

Retards. Just because you have rose tinted nostalgia goggles doesn't mean your shitty game from 2001 is better than the games being released today.
10s>00s>90s>80s

90s
2000s
2010s
80s

00s and 90s are tied for me, they each had pros and cons. Otherwise, this is the only correct answer. There were a lot of iconic games released in the very late 1980s, but as a whole, it was shit and shovel ware

90's
00's
10's
80's

90s > 00s > 80s > 10s

>2nd gen: 1977-1990
>3rd gen: 1986(1983 in Japan)-1994
>4th gen: 1989(1987 in Japan)-1998
>5th gen: 1993-2001
>6th gen: 1999-2008
>7th gen: 2005-2013
>8th gen: 2012-present
ftfy fucking drone

6 > 5 = 4 > 7 > 3 = 8 > 1 > 2

This. Games today are just better polished and there are still ones scratch the same itch that your favorite one from the 90s did.

The question is retarded, "best" for gaming could mean anything. The gaming market is the biggest right now, does that mean its the winner? Games are higher quality now, is it a winner? Etc.

this

If there is a concept of the gaming history in 100 years later, the 90s and the 2000 will be looked back and tied as the golden era of gaming.

Odd World 1 and 2, RE 1-3, Mario 64, OoT, Star Fox, FF7, SMW, Sonic 2-K, Quake, Doom, SF3.

Godlike taste.

the era from 1996 to 2005 was full of innovation, and polished 3D games. revival of old series with new mechanics, like metroid prime, or sequels that improved the formula, like silen thill 2. new great IPS like GTA or DMC or banjo kazooie also appeared here.
then the 1990s, which perfected the 2D platformer/RPG like secret of mana/lttp/DKC.
then the 2010s with the surprisingly good amount of indie games but not much in the way of triple A major titles. even games like breath of the wild feel empty and overblown, soulless.
the 1980s had nothing but arcade bleep bloop games.

Why do many anons here tie up the 90s and the 00s together?

>2000s Best
>1990s
>1980s
>2010s Worst

Many milestones in the mid-late 90's and early-mid 00's. Games were sold as is and no DLC/Micro/Woke/P2W/DRM absolute fucking bullshit with some small exceptions. Seriously if there was none of that, 2010s would be much higher in ranking. Pioneer era video games far better than woke capitalist cosmetic era.

As is the case with most decades, the second half of the 90s (5th gen) and first half of the 2000s (6th gen) were logical continuations.

Anyone who doesnt put 80s at the end is a madman

When people refer to old games they really only have at most 5 in mind that they cherish. Independent games for the last 2 years, in my opinion, is the best that gaming has ever been. AAA games were definitely better last generation

Anyone who puta 2010 above anything is an absolute madman.

Chrono Trigger and literally half the SNES Library of games

this.

I've got an a shitton of games I can remember. Helps to not be senile.

Games in the 2010 are OBJECTIVELY better in quality in every conceivable way to 80's games. Your personal bias against the state of the industry or the current business model of DLC and microtransactions has nothing to do with this discussion.

This to be honest

I remember them too. There’s only a handful I still like playing

Like, i can name a few games i replay all the time from the 2010s, lile dragons dogma, i cant name a single 1980s game id ever want to play at home, at the arcade, sure if there isnt anything newer.

90s > 00s > 10s > 80s
Of course there are many classics from the 80s, but its easy to forget the sheer amount of trash. And there's trash today too, but with the internet it's vastly easier to discern what's trash or not.
The 90s feels like the peak of creativity in gaming, when technology was progressing quickly and game devs were allowed to do weird, unique stuff with it.

I hold the 00's very dearly to my heart too since it was the GBA/DS era, objectively two of the best game libraries to have ever graced this earth after the SNES and PS1

>implying anarchy reigns isn't fantastic

HoMM III

Why can't most of the devs today do a better 2D rendering than those from the 90s with their latest technology?

They look more to the 8-bit era because its easier/cheaper to make.

2010s=1990s>2000s>1980s
we're living in a second golden age (if you're smart enough to avoid AAAshit) and only contrarian niggers claim otherwise

1970s = Space Invaders and Pong
1980s = OG ludo like Tetris, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros., Mario 3, Marble Madness, Gradius, Simcity, Out Run, Ninja Gaiden, Missile Command and The Legend of Zelda
1990s = Beginning of modern PC gaming with the first titles other than the 80s staples of MUDs, Ultima and P-A-C/txt adventures
Beginning of 3D
Beginning of immersive sims
Beginning of fighting games
Beginning of 4X
Beginning of RTS
Beginning of Danmaku
Beginning of FPS
Transition from MUDs to MMOs
2000s =
2000-2003 are basically 90s part II and the last years of the golden age
2004-2009 were the downfall years and the fall of PC gaming but still contained great titles like Rome: Total War, Patapon, Portal, Mount & Blade, Etrian Odyssey, Demon's Souls, FEAR, and STALKER
While independent games (ie Spiderweb Soft) had always existed, the surge in budgets for HD gaming, and the availability of digital distribution allowing for mass distribution of cheaper titles, lead to the beginning of what are considered indie games (ie Cave Story, La-Mulana, BIT.TRIP, DEFCON, World of Goo, Geometry Wars and Windows era Touhou)
The downfall introduced many new forms of degeneracy like objective markers, horse armour, and games that are neither designed for console or PC but designed to poorly accommodate both.
2010s = I hope you like indie games, Dark Souls and Breath of the Wild
1990s>2000s>1980s>2010s

Because developers today have teams of 3D modellers. If they wanted to make a game like that, they would have to purge their 3D department and commit to 2D since you can't just find odd-jobs for 3D modellers to do for the entire dev cycle of a game.

ok faggots, old man here:

90s
00s
80s
EVERYTHING ELSE

as much as i love the 80s, the games are a bit harsh in that only NES shit and arcade shit was good. saying that SMS, Atari and other 1st and 2nd gen shit was amazing is hard. its neat and enjoyable for short bursts but that is it. a giant chunk of what made the 80s for gaming in america was the fucking NES, hands down.

the 90s.... what the fuck else can i say? those of us who lived it KNOW WHY THE FUCK IT WAS THE BEST DECADE FOR GAMES. there is no disputing this shit, its FINAL. there was at LEAST 2 amazing systems on the market and a general grudge of good games on all systems, obviously save for shit like the jaguar and 3DO. this is THE golden era and yes, it does have its bad and forgettable games, but when you talk about THE BEST GAMES OF ALL TIME as a list, its always fucking stuffed hard with 90s shit.

2000s were great....for 6th gen shit. 7th gen really didn't start to fucking pick up until like 2009, no joke, so this is mostly about 6th gen shit, which gave us online on consoles, the death of couch co-op and the PS2 having all the RPGs ever and also the best seasonal lineup of games ever, look up fall/winter 2001 for PS2 it was fucking unfair as shit.

and now we get to.......UGH.......the 10s, probably the most forgettable of fucking game generations and the going forward for all gaming in the future. this gen is SHIT AS FUCK, i haven't been fucking excited at all when E3 came around because only nintendo delivered with BotW and that was skipping the Wii U because it was 100% shit and im a fucking nintendo kid, i can't ever praise that piece of shit. thankfully, we are almost at 2020, a long off mythical year of the future and probably worse than the 10s will be.

>1980s....
>mario 3..........................
>A FUCKING GAME THAT CAME OUT IN 1990, NO DONT GIVE ME THAT JAPAN HAD IT IN 89 BULLSHIT!

You're focusing exclusively on consoles and arcades, right?

Attached: 688attacksub89.jpg (640x400, 101K)

PC and such had its good shit, but not that many people really played it en mass over the NES. i knew some people that had a computer, but shit, i don't think i got my computer until like 1991 or 92.

only thing i can think of is that your EU? because i know those fucks LOVED the ZEDECKS SPECTRUM

Yeah. I think Nintendo stuff usually released way later here than it did in the US in the 80s and 90s.

90s > 2010s > 80s > actual dirt > 2000s

Definitely 90s on top, otherwise not quite sure. Mid-00s was the worst era for me, but there were very strong games in the beginning of that decade, 80s was generally too primitive but things started to get together by the end of the decade, today is alright despite all the stupid shit.

Early 00s > Early 90s > Late 80s > Late 10s > Late 00s > Late 90s > Early 10s > Early 80s

This is the correct opinion not clouded by nostalgiafaggotry, though personally i'd go further and put 90's and 10's as a tie.

The 2000's were at the perfect meeting point of actually having good tech for 3d graphics and the industry still being a creative place with tons of mid tier development studios to where we had a wide range of quality, mostly polished products of all genres and themes.

The 90's before that didn't have the raw power to really make early 3d games work, and the 2010's after it saw too much standardization and trhe death of mid tier studios to where everything became relatively unambitious and iterative, even from somebody who thinks games should be judged in a vacumn and not docked points off for being too derivative.

You need to be the most delusional of contrarians or nostlagiafags to put the 80's over anything, nails it.

That or rating things by """"""""innovation""""""" or """"how good it was for it's time"""" which is a retarded fucking metric since by that logic a wooden stick is better then a steel mace

based E.T.fag

1990 > 1980 > 2000 > 2010

Whats this user?

oh yeah, i know all about EU and that you guys pretty much had computers and Genesis shit.

i always felt bad that you guys had to wait like a year or more to play games, must have sucked more playing them slower than everyone else or i guess, not knowing that fact until later in life.

FF6 is amazing
FF15 is absolute SHIT that you are a fucking faggot to think that the 90s and 10s are anywhere NEAR each other.

This is the objective truth

>most people put the 90s or the 00s on top, shitting on the 10s and thinking the 80s was too primitive.

Is that just because of some nostalgia shit, assuming most anons were born in the 80s up to the mid 90s, whose gamer kids/teens era were such, or these two decades were actually that good?

Early 90s were really good, but early 3d graphics were super jank and overrated.

Guardian Heroes and Princess Crown

its not just us, asshole.
go check most top 100 lists from about 2005 to now. a shit ton of them are gonna have 90s shit in them, hands down the most amount of games on the list.

there is a reason people enjoy 90s games and say that they are good and yes, games existed BEFORE FF7 and OOT faggot.

90>00>80>10, 00 is where the peak lies but its also where the decline begins.

I think people who put latter 90s first are nostalgia-blinded. But I put the early 00s first and that's what I grew up with so I'm kind of conflicted.

>'arguably the best' tier
2000 and 1990

1980

>'weak save for few titles' tier

>this is an early 90s graphics

Why were the Japanese devs top-notch in graphical rendering in the 90s and the early 00s but are struggling with the current technology today?

Attached: FF6.jpg (1200x675, 127K)

They understand that we've long since passed the point of diminishing returns as far as graphics are concerned.

that was almost mid 90s

and compare that to FF4 and 5, its a WORLD of fucking difference.

Those games hold up today.
