What went wrong?
Was this game shit or was it just series fatigue?

The game was good, you're just gay.

It wasn't shit per say, it was just a completely unoriginal cash in on the Dark Souls formula that contributed nothing new or creative to the series.

Fatigue. It's why I dropped it

>What went wrong?
1. They listened to pvpfags so the game ended up being "balanced" around pvp which in turn nerfed and panelized fun pve builds and play styles most notably pure magic. Fucking up the pve aspect of the game lead to replayability and build variety taking a huge hit.

2. They listened to the LE HARDCORE GAMER crowd so they made the game harder by giving every boss massive amount of hp and went overboard with the multiple health bars/multiple bosses at once gimmick. They also made bosses and enemies way faster and delayed their attack punish rolling.

3. It's very, very linear which killed any form of replayability the game would have had.

It was a combination of things from level design to series fatigue ds3 is amazing at its best but that just makes the crap parts stand out even more.
Ds1>Ds3>De>Sotfs

Pvpfags? 3 has worst pvp. Okay maybe not as bad as the backstab fishing in 1 but the game came out without workign poise ffs.

I have my own issues with the game but this one is really annoying. Miracles are so shitty.

Pretty much this.

Best game in series, don't know what are you talking about, nigger

Ds3 went hard on the online aspect, gave so many pvp crowd pleasering features and tried to make every weapon a pvp meta contender, failed hard and lost all nuance and identity doing so.

post more hitbox porn

It was still enjoyable despite its flaws. It was pretty disappointing but still not as disappointing as 2

Worst game in the series. At least 2 has repayability. 3 is utter linear roll souls garbage

Its a solid entry, Very linear wich i dont mind at all, i love straight hallway games.

The aesthetics are amazing. Locations look just so beautiful, I never wanted to go back to DS1 afterwards.
And DS2 shouldn't even be considered part of the series desu, it was at at best a 4/10 underdeveloped trash

Hibox porn possible only in DS3 (best souls game)

It was shitty
It was an afterthought, Bamco wanting some BB money

pushed out by Bamco for a quick cashgrab. would've been fucking kino with at least 1 more year of dev time, see pic related

Same with DS2

DS2's problem was its first director utterly mismanaging it.

DS3 is the best of the trilogy.

Dark Souls 2 had the most replayability and build variety in the series. I fucking hate how people started shitting on it relentlessly after the autistic """"critique"""" video.

We shit on it because it doesn't feel like a Souls title, there is no atmosphere, the levels are just empty hallways, the combat is slow and clunky and the bosses are complete shit.

>We
Go back, reddit

Good content, terrible structure.
They should have spent an extra six months or so on the world design and crafting a more compelling scenario than "go kill these random dudes". It's clear the overwhelming focus was on the individual level design and the boss fights, actually connecting them together was a secondary concern.

Some more color could have helped as well.

>Started
2 has been getting shit on since release dumbass. No one liked that garbage.

A little bit of both. But at least it still had a few highlights and was overall okay, unlike the absolute dogshit DS2 or even Sekiro.

t. newfag
DaS2 discussion at release was an absolute shitstorm.

/thread

>dat health
>dat estus

Somebody did their best for this

Only bossfights are remarkable, the rest is medicore in compare to DS or DeS

>me
>on Yea Forums when 2 released
>constant complaints about the level design and how many ambushes with fuck tons of mobs were being encountered
>complaints about how everything feels unresponsive and weapon impacts seem to be lacking
>people start posting shitboxes
>people start trying to understand the nonsense story that seems to be missing chucks the further you go along
>people find the Wall
>people start realizing just how easymode lightning spear is

You know, I wish people would stop being revisionists. Vaati and matt don't make oc content out of nowhere and not even Yea Forums criticism doesn't just come up out of thin air.

Every boss has massive HP? I don't remember DS3 bosses being that difficult aside from a few notable exceptions

>Needing to tank through hits instead of timing your attacks

Get fukt shitter.

I actually prefer DS2 to DS3. I'm just saying that a lot of good content got cut.

Attached: 20190809231928_1.jpg (1920x1080, 302K)

DS3 and even the DLCs could have been sooo much more. Instead we had a chaotic mess that feels like the inbred child of Demon's and BB with pointless pandering to DS1 lore all over the place.

>has poise casting
>lightning arrow
>lightning stake

Pfffthahaha

>40 faith
>wear faith boosting rings
>throw lightning spear at a fodder enemy
>30%
Uhm, based department?

For a souls game it was pretty badly designed in comparison to the other entries in the series.

Like you have this shit.

>linear as hell beginning that doesn't branch for several hours
>imbalanced build aspects, a pure magic, pyro, or miracle build couldn't exist on the same level as a ugabuga r1 quality build. You needed to spend the entire game into ng+ before you could rely on playstyles other than r1.
>R1 spam was the be all end all of most bosses. Stamina was too forgiving and too many enemies were hyper-aggressive low hp mobs
>armor and shields were pretty medicore because rolls were completely overpowered and brainless and aggressive enemies did too much stam damage for shield defensive play to be as viable as ballsout r1 spam
>poise was gone and poise was also an aspect in DS that made investing into heavy armor feel tangible better. You trade your roll for hitstun immunity.
>Weapons were DS1 tier and lacking memorable aspects. DLC 2 helped with this but it couldn't match DS2 nor BB despite both games feeling like prototypes to systems that DS3 developed on.
>Fashion souls was nice, but armor was lacking in the same variety that was in DS2 and DS1. Too many suits of plate that looked alike or more robes that didn't stand out
>PVP was pretty boring compared to 2 due to the numerous changes that made it way spammier. 2's invasions were also improvements that 3 ignored and chose instead to make invasions where you spawn into a world-cleared 1v5 match the norm. 3 made invasions into the ultimate challenge, but the changes in the combat didn't make killing a roll-spamming host satisfying, just relieving that you were able to burn the little faggot down before he could react.

Mixture of both, but it was mostly just shit.

Attached: whydarksouls3isshit.png (1628x850, 289K)

>>R1 spam was the be all end all of most bosses.
That applies to every game in the franchise.

Not quite.

DS3 lets you get so many more r1s out of a stamina bar while also getting easy poise breaks with a SS. it's comparable with BB which was designed to be an r1 game.

The game was much better than DS2 which btw was a mistake which should never have been made. Now stop making these threads.

absolutely

Swamps.

There is no non-gimmick boss in DeS, DaS1, or DaS2 where R1 spam isn't the optimal strategy. Think about the hardest bosses in DaS2 like Fume Knight, what are you doing? R1 and dodging.
DaS3 just understands how Souls combat works (namely that it's shallow as fuck) and goes for mechanical consistency over everything else. It's a result of ironing out most of the jank and letting the individual quirks of each boss shine instead.

Good for one or two playthroughs, then you realise how poorly designed the world and a of bunch levels are.
Then the limiting upgrade path and weapon variety becomes apparent.
Then you realise magic is shit.
And that's all well and good, because it's still a Dark Souls game, and it's fun to play and explore the story and every little detail, and try to figure out how it relates to the series as a whole.
Until you find out that DaS3's lore was hacked to pieces during development and barely makes sense in the context of its own story, let alone the broader universe.
But invasions can still legitimately be fun if you get good at 3v1's.

based and redpilled

>DaS3zoomers will defend this

Attached: Roll roll roll roll roll R1 R1 R1 R1.webm (960x540, 2.82M)

I disagree with fashion. 3 had a lot of good looking armor sets and mixing them made for some interesting combinations. 2 also had good armor sets but often times clashed badly whenever you ever tried mixing them.

>They listened to pvpfags so the game ended up being "balanced" around pvp
lolwat
The PvP is the worst in 3 by far, and the game is CLEARLY balanced around having to roll spam overly aggressive enemies.
>Fucking up the pve aspect of the game lead to replayability and build variety taking a huge hit.
The shit linearity and same-y as fuck weapons is why killed build variety.
>They listened to the LE HARDCORE GAMER crowd so they made the game harder by giving every boss massive amount of hp and went overboard with the multiple health bars/multiple bosses at once gimmick.
Bosses in DaS3 have comparatively small amounts of health, Pontiff has so little that he generally dies before he even enter Phase 2.

dilate

You can do this in DaS2 too though, and you don't have to parry to do it.

Truly flawless.

Based cherrypickerposter.

Attached: 1520471308376.webm (960x540, 2.87M)

Every armour set was a different shade of metal, making it impossible to properly mix and match sets. Then you have shit like the Silver Knight helm just being a black void for the face, and the Faraam helm not covering the chicken neck you're going to have as a result of Yoel's questline.

>The shit linearity and same-y as fuck weapons is why killed build variety.
Go play the game as a pure mage/cleric and tell me what you think.

The good

>best looking DS
>most "balanced" DS
>has some amazing boss quality overall
>great OST
>The Ringed City is the best DLC DS has to offer
>It doesn't have any really bad areas like DS1 Lost Izalith or DS2 Shrine of Amana

The bad

>Invasions are the worst
>PvP is the least enjoyable overall - its not funny and broken like DS1 or fresh like DS2 PvP
>too many fucking swamp areas
>the whole story/lore around it is pretty weak and mostly just fanservice
>most linear DS

>best looking souls but ugly poo gray palette
>best and slickest combat but they took out poise and armor has virtually no benefit besides looking cool
>too much recycled content from 1 and 2.
>r1 spam cancer, dodge cancer, estus cancer
>non-functional darkmoon covenant
>no grinding whatsoever, dead areas once bosses are defeated
>no more armor upgrades and weapon upgrades are completely butchered

contrarians need not apply

>>best looking DS
Yeah, I sure loved the marmalade filter over the entire game. Great looking game.

Attached: DS3_Cathedral_5.0.jpg (2467x1383, 641K)

I am not saying that its looking great

I am saying its looking better than DS2 and DS1 which is hardly an achievement considering that DS3 is the only true current gen title but still

Dark Souls 1 looks better, thanks to infinitely superior art direction.
Art direction >>> graphical fidelity, every time.

Anor Londo is peak DS1

Let's not pretend most other areas can compete with it.

>Old is good, new is bad
This but unironically.

> man vs reality
classic

he didn't parry here though

>What went wrong?
Nothing
>Was this game shit
No
>series fatigue
No
The game's fine by any metric and usually people complain that it's not a Dark Souls 1 clone while, paradoxically, complaining that it's "dude member dark souls 1?". Its linearity is about as meaningful as Dark Souls 1's kind-of-but-not-really open-ended progression which ceases to be open-ended at several points and has a clear intended order of progression starting from the Undead Burg and leading up to the belltower, then to the Lower Burg and Depths. Poise is gone but who cares that system was already a step or two away from being "how much super armor do you have?" Several infusions are based off of upgrade paths in Demon's Souls, all upgrade paths are viable depending on your build and you don't have to piddle around finding different colors of titanite just to upgrade something. Picks up Dark Souls 2's use of Dark as its own element with its own hybrid progression, not needing a specific soapstone to lay down and review messages, and incorporates power-stancing by tying it to a few specific weapons which is less useful but not tremendously different. Bosses aren't horrid on the whole like they were in DS2 and about half of them being horrid in DS1.

hehe now i need to laugh

>Poise is gon-

Attached: Dark Souls 3 Poise.webm (852x480, 1.94M)

its a decent game and the hardest in the souls series maybe thats why redditors like yourself dont like it. I played it before bloodborne and BB was a cakewalk afterwards.

Code-wise the system is super/hyper-armor that goes into effect while trading blows, poise doesn't work the way it did in DS1 or 2.

>the hardest in the souls series

Attached: Pontiff Sulyvahn.webm (960x540, 2.88M)

DS3 is the best Dark Souls game.
Demon's Souls was my first and probably is my favourite Souls game.
Bloodborne is 11/10 and is my favourite From game since the AC series.
Sekiro is a solid 9/10 but really makes me miss Tenchu.
I'm looking forward to Elden Ring but honestly would rather have Armored Core return. It's been too long.

>HARD GAME GOOD

Attached: 1564419994040.jpg (700x734, 80K)

>Does more dmg than heavy weapons
>Can keep whacking for 8+times without runnin out of stamina
>instant damage

Wow I used the most op weapon in the game why so easy?

The game is offensively average and lacks any identity of its own. Almost everything this game does, another Miyazaki game has already done better

>Hardest
There's like 3 or 4 bosses that are constantly the go to for "hard" bosses from DS3, out of just under 20 that are never discussed for their difficulty

i think i am the only boy here based enough to UNABASHEDLY ADMIT:

I LIKE DARK SOULS THREE, UNIRONICALLY AND I ENJOY PLAYING IT!!!!!!

The swamps are the only real problem. Most of the game is excellent.

Fatigue. It was an excellent game.

>terrible

There's that word again. It's like people have never played a genuinely terrible game before.

Attached: 1565681840408.jpg (575x651, 63K)

Fatigue. The game was fucking great.

Even though it doesn't come close to the feeling DS1 had.

>never played a genuinely terrible game before.
I've played Dark Souls 3, though.

It's an April fools video you retards

April Fool's or not, everything he said was spot on.

Look out dude, someone's about to steal your games!

FPBP

for every ds3 bug you show there will be 2 in ds2 and 4 in ds1 and 8 in ds

Attached: Well-its-both.jpg (421x257, 43K)

You have to go back to 2016

The areas are just tiresome to play through, I find it very hard to enjoy any particular one, unlike 1 and 2

this game is better than DS1

>everything posted on April 1st is April's fool
Stupid faggot.

Attached: 1565717340374.jpg (1024x683, 53K)

It could not surpass DS2.

>not even the complete editions of souls, souls 2 and BB

the only people upset were BB fags who always get upset when any new souls game comes out that threatens their games relevance (as witnessed with the gigantic influx of nonsense shill BB threads that happened around DS3 and Sekiro's release), and Dark Souls 2 fags who were incredibly butthurt because everyone had been shitting on their game for 2 years
