Waifushit is the entire reason why the genre fucking exists. The only advantage the genre offers is being able to have animu waifu story at a fraction of a budget of an actual anime or game. And requiring much less art than a manga series would.
If you want to write a serious story that doesn't rely on cute character designs there's no reason to write a VN instead of an actual novel.

If the entire game revolves around this visual element to work then I guess it's fine in that case. Otherwise it's a waste of art resources since everything looks so bland.

It's good, but it's fairly short and much easier to bruteforce solutions compared to TIS/Shenzhen

Very disappointing. I've bought the past 4 or 5 Zachtronics games on day 1 and always anticipate their next game, but this is just a terrible move. I might be interested if they went in the direction of Zero Escape with their open ended puzzles placing escape rooms, but pure VN is just boring. Their stories are always boring. They should just make Spacechem 2 or something.

There are several optimizations I can see here, the easiest of which would be replacing the piston on the left with an arm since it doesn't extend or contract.
