I've never played Resident Evil 1, what can I expect?

A good game.

spooks
refueling your kerosine a lot
breaking the handle on that door under the stairs because you went through it too many times

Expect to struggle a lot in the first hour or so. That's normal. Knife is useless. Use the classic control scheme and 4:3 ratio with side bars. Map tells you whether you picked all items.

Do Jill scenario first, it's more forgiving, you can carry more shit.

Play the ps1 version first

if you mean the remake then you will experience the best remake ever made

What other games have a double remake?

Nor are you going to now either, if you play only the REmake.

Still, the REmake is easily the peak of the series, and a shining example of a perfect survival-horror game. It might be a bit more zoomer-friendly too, especially graphics wise, but I'd recommend playing the OG trilogy at some point too.

Start w/ Jill, and choose the highest difficulty (=Normal).

Play on Delphin Emu.
HD Remaster is fucked.
(shadows don't match light sources. Also they removed most of the animated backgrounds)

Masterpiece in every sense of the word.

The HD port ain't that bad.
Even more so with the AI Upscaled BGs mod.

Play PS1 first, numb nuts.

Only if you dint play the original.
Same as with Arkham City remaster

Lure all the zombies onto stairs where they can't grab you and just circle-knife them down to conserve ammo.

I did. I'd still much rather play the HD remaster over shoddy emulation.
Different thing if you got a legit GC + CRT to play it on.

>shoddy emulation
What?
Dolphin is pretty much perfect.

I was so paranoid about the way the knob was described I don't think I used it optionally once the entire game

Still more demanding than a legit PC port.
Also, the 480p 2D backgrounds do not scale well to modern HD resolutions, no matter that the art-design is superb.

A what??

I guess he's referring to the fact that the 2002's REmake (of RE1) got an HD Remaster back in 2014. So it's a... Remake Remaster?

Well that's absolutely not a "double remake"
