You have to be a brainlet to lose in Luca. I though it was scripted for you to win after a 1-1 because right before I was about to score the goal to win the game a cutscene played and Wakka replaced Tidus and my goal didn’t count. Then I won the game right before the timer ended, thought it was scripted until I did another play through and won 2-0.

Probably the best pure "turn-based" RPG system (read: ASCKHULLY turn-based)

A lot of people compare this to Tales of Symphonia so I'll say it's much better than Symphonia in every regard. Combat, music, characters, plot

and this is coming from someone who has spent over 350 hours on a single symphonia save file (including new game+s) and only played X two times. Once on ps2 and again on hd remake with expert sphere grid.

Expert sphere makes the early game more fun but can be frustrating mid game if you spent a lot of time going back and forth. Late game it doesn't really matter.

Zodiac spear is no longer a thing.

Having played a lot of crappy JRPGs about generic kewl hero saving the world from darkness I was actually really taken aback by the story of FFX. If it weren't for the unskippable cutscenes I'd replay it just to screw with character grids more. I ruined Lulu on my first playthrough because I thought giving her Lancet would allow her to learn enemy spells.

I'm considering downloading FFXII. I know they ditch the turn based battle system, but does it have something similar to the sphere grid?

Yuna gets like best everything, I always remember giving her the elemental 3 spells at some point 2/3rds of the way through and never using Lulu afterwards.

12 has the licence board system which you fill out to equip/learn certain weapons/gear/abilities. it functions fairly similarly but you can expand in any direction.

They really should have given Lulu something aside from magic early on. Everyone else gets a unique ability with the exception of Tidus.
Maybe they should have made doublecast an exclusive unlock using her final armour or something.

XII is ludo in its own right but very different from FFX both gameplay wise (real time, you program the repetitive tasks) and in terms of world/atmosphere (more open ended, less doom and gloom).

It's probably my 1st or 2nd favorite final fantasy game along with Final Fantasy 7. I really like the setting and soundtrack. It gives a really comfy feel to the game.

I don't... think so? I usually already have holy at that point in the game. Then again, I do take my time with the Calm Lands arena before going into Zanarkand, and try to get as many sigils as possible while just playing the game (chocobo race, thunder plains dodges and so on)

I usually get it around the part where you break Sin's arms with the airship although admittedly in my last couple of playthrough i kinda bench Yuna since i feel like Aeons trivialize the game.

Regardless, to be honest, Yunalesca is such a a cancer fight with all the status ailments that even if I didn't have Holy at that point, I'd grind for it beforehand to make the fight easier. Maybe I'm just being a bitch about it. lol

Nah, i remember her kicking my ass the first time i got to her, ended up cheesing her by filling every Aeon's Overdrive and then bursting her down. Nowadays i prefer fighting her normally since it's one of the few challenging story bosses though.
