As for the trials, sometimes you have to see if it’s on first/last hit of moves, as well as actually waiting to link from a juggle instead of just going into the next move.

Holding up after a hit will auto j.c IIRC. Raven has a unique forward air dash so it's more important to learn glide canceling than IAD for him.

The story mode is still a visual novel and they eventually released xblaze which is just a visual novel with no fighting and it's pretty much a prequel to blaze blue.

I just started too and I've been playing Ky. He seems beginner friendly and I'm not having too much trouble.

I'm also staying away from anything in the air and just focusing on ground game.

I've just been doing all the combo training stuff (amazing feature desu wish all fightan games had it) and a lot of them involved air stuff. The hardest part for me is air combos that become ground combos, like going from airdash>P>S>P into c.P on the ground. I think I just need to get used to the pace of the inputs, it's really fast compared to Tekken 7.

NRS games always have bad gameplay. MK11 covering up titties was far from its biggest problem, when it regressed mechanically in almost every way compared to MKX (which itself is only barely passable) and completely fucked up The Krypt with microtransaction bullshit (granted that was definitely a decision made by WB and not NRS).

Most fun I ever had with an NRS/Mortal Kombat game was Jason in XL, and he's a guest that won't come back or get a newcomer that takes his function so fuck it.

Problem is there's just as big of a powergap between the skill level "doesn't know fuck all about fighting games" and "knows what each button does and how to do the special moves" as there is between the latter and "actually knows/practices his game". It especially doesn't help when you're in the "knows the special moves" camp and get false confidence from facing the CPU, who doesn't act like a human at all and will randomly eat shit from even the most obvious/telegraphed moves.

I love all the girls but I almost never end up maining them because I like grapplers and big bodies in terms of playstyle, with Poison being the only waifu in SF I actually like to play as (and only in USFIV). In turn people who watch me play without knowing much about me would probably assume I'm gay.

In my experience I've not encountered bots with a difficulty setting that's right. It's either "brain-dead/training dummy" or "turbo-murder".
But I think it's besides that. There's something about just fighting bots, hard or not, to no end that isn't satisfying. It feels pointless. Soul Calibur with its single player feels a little more rewarding with its RPG mode, but at the end of the day it doesn't feel like I'm doing it for any real purpose. (Plus I hit a point with the single player where the enemy got too hard to progress)

When I first started playing Guilty Gear Xrd I started playing matches with Axl. He's very easy if you played a fighting game before. But you'll still lose a lot because this game has a ton of dirty characters.

are you doing something different now than what you did to get to top 8 level or is there just too much competition at that point? I am newer and I'm always impressed by the good players at my locals, but I was scrolling through some of our past events and as far as it goes back player rankings for our top 8 or so have pretty much been fixed (ie. 7 has been losing to the rest of them in tournament for 2 years straight or something). kind of depressing, made me wonder what you can really do at that point since everybody is grinding just as much as you are.
