That is 100% normal, you can still learn-if you want to of course. Why do you think artfags use references all the time? It's a skill you have to train, and even after years very few can do everything from imagination.
Visit the /ic/ sticky and artbook thread's MEGA links (don't touch the other threads). Basically draw from life a bit every day, draw what you like from imagination and using refs. Do studies of what you don't get to improve at that particular thing (can't draw a hand? go copy a few hands from reference. can't draw human bodies in general? go do some sketches from ref. etc.). This process if a bit different for everyone and you gotta find something that works for (you). Won't lie, it's hard to improve, but rewarding after a few months when it starts looking like something.

Every attempt at /ic/ has lead me to Loomis which always forced me into drawing the upside down chairman or those wacky faces and I never found actual improvement.
