How would you adapt these manga to games without losing their core essence? Berserk already tried and failed with that terrible musou, but Hokuto No Ken had one game made by the Yakuza people that had a fun demo (I didn’t try the full game).
>HnK Musou/Brawler is all it should be, the good things about the series are pretty much contained to monologues >Berserk Berserk's PS2/dreamcast games were fine. Souls gameplay doesn't match Guts at all >GitS PS1 GitS with out of tank combat as well and a hub world reality sim that included web diving/hacking sections >Alita Would also work with the Gotoku formula but platinum goofball mechanics fits shit like Rollerball more
Cooper Phillips
>ghost in the shell > would be terrible rpg Nigga it could be a straight up crpg
Owen Hernandez
>GitS would be a terrible RPG >literally 70% of the series is dialogue and detective work
Imagine Berserk, but with every arc being as good as Golden Age and without all the retarded demon shit and Guts being inexplicably super human without flaws
>their core essence Zero in on game mechanics that emulate the feel of the series' central premise. Abandon all notions of recreating 1:1 any given plot arc. Emphasize player agency.
Carter Gonzalez
My taste is good and Berserk is shit after golden age, buddy.
Samuel Perry
>Muh Golden Age
casual
Adrian Nguyen
So? Make it an adventure game, then.
Jaxon Hernandez
sounds good in theory, but how would you apply it to each series?
Thomas Thompson
Fuck these games all we need is Dragon Ball Origins 3 and 4
Gabriel Allen
HnK God Hand style
Ryder Phillips
Nah you got pleb filtered hard. Only GoT fags like Golden Age.
Adrian Myers
GoT didn't even exist when I read it, retard
Robert Rivera
Hokuto is decent and received a bunch of decent games. GitS can work as a Hitman or Assassin's Creed style game. Berserk is great until after the battle with Grunbeld, and has a decent PS2 game. Alita is shit.
Hudson Cruz
Does Berserk get better eventually? I've only read Berserk until few chapters after the Golden Age arc because most people are saying that it's the peak of the series and I thought it was good but not one of the greatest manga arcs of all time so I stopped after that
Samuel Green
how can someone be this incorrect if you wanna knock on Berserk for anything, it's the shonen magic stuff that started propping up soon after the intro of magic. The Eclipse, Lost Children arc, and tons of scenarios after were kino
Juan Clark
Lost Children and Conviction are my favorites.
Andrew Long
Berserk is shit Characters are shallow Art is bad Guts is the literal definition of toxic masculinity
Kevin Morris
...
John Allen
Videogames based off anime and manga will never be more than just okay or kinda fun due to the fact the devs know the games will sell no matter what based on their names alone
DB Fighterz was an incredibly rare fluke of a high quality anime game
Ian Baker
I haven't read far enough to see magic shit I think the strongest parts were in Golden Age and all the paranormal shit in general with demons etc was retarded.
Hudson Miller
>Hokuto no ken God Hand but with platforming/aerial combat and moral choices and a dynamic world. Fail to stop one gang? They raise a local city. Beware your rival kung fu guys unless you think you are ready to take them. >GiTS Deus Ex but sleeker. >Berserk I don't think there's a way to balance a game in a really interesting way if you have a giant hitbox sword that's also very powerful and super fast. I'd slow the sword swing down while keeping his movement fast, so it's like you're moving around at Doomguy speeds but the sword is really slow and feels powerful. It knocks people away. If you try to swing it indoors, it'll get stuck in stone but it straight up destroys wooden doors. It should feel like a baseball bat covered in velcro. >Alita I don't know anything about this series
Luke Morris
make dark souls in berserk universe, in fantasia era. You're not Guts, you're a dark souls personal char, you kill mythic beast and apostles and gain powers, can learn witch craft, get mecha arms.
Aiden Morales
>implying that "toxic masculinity" isn't just a made-up term
Samuel Young
>Berserk already tried and failed with that terrible musou, berserk already failed with the continuation of the manga.
Chase Cook
HE RAPES WOMEN This is your hero *walks away in disgust*
>Hokuto no Ken Fucking impossible to make a game out of unless you made a spin-off game about playing as a literally who in that same universe just like one of the Fist of the North Star JRPGs did. To make a good video game you need character progression which Hokuto wouldn't need because Ken is already at full power Musuo Tensei doesn't count There was a good PS1 Beat-Em-Up game which I heard was a perfect adaptation. >Ghost in the Shell Several game adaptations happened and they were adored. I feel the anime has been done and adapted to death and should be laid to rest. I'd rather see an Akira video game adaptation with cel-shaded graphics like the Steamboy/Cowboy Bebop PS2 game. >Berserk The PS2 game was peak and more needed to be made of it. A Dark Souls-like game would work pretty well too though. >Alita/Gunm I could've sworn there was a PS1 RPG set in Gunm but it was Japan-only. Was that game good? If it wasn't, then I'd agree with this post On another note. How are the Legend of the Galactic Heroes games? And I am desperate for a Space Pirate Harlock game too, that one PS1 game about Cosmo Warrior Zero doesn't count because he's a secret character and you don't even play as him fully, plus there's no English translation.
>I don't know anything about this series Cute cyborg girl fights cyborgs, learns martial arts and plays extreme sports. Then SUFFERING ensues. There are also vampires and this thing.
Guts has never raped anyone what the fuck are you talking about
Isaac Roberts
>>Hokuto no ken >God Hand but with platforming/aerial combat and moral choices and a dynamic world. Fail to stop one gang? They raise a local city. Beware your rival kung fu guys unless you think you are ready to take them.
So long as I could play as Roah, Toki or Souther, I wouldn't have a problem with this idea.
Ayden Torres
>I heard of this manga. Is it actually good? It's pretty cool, yeah. But it stopped around volume 22 or so and just kind of dropped off the face of the earth ending on a cliffhanger.
Owen Young
>Is it actually good? It's not well written but it's metal as fuck and the MC is the chaddest of chads ever created.
Dragon's Dogma is the closest you'll ever be to a proper Berserk game.
Joshua Clark
I don't think it's possible to capture these as games due to the nature of games requiring player input.
Adam Jones
>literally first page of the manga is him having sex and abusing a woman
Brayden Reyes
You mean the demon? The demon who eats people? That demon?
Charles Bailey
On the tin, the random turn into DEEP fantasy and religious imagery with demons and hell and shit from the relatively "medieval tactical" route it had earlier would be deemed jumping the shark, or completely fucking a story up.
But I think the point of Beserk was to take those weird underlying suspicions with Griffith's creepiness, Guts' pointless and relentless degree of suffering (born out of a hanged corpse, taken in by mercenaries, sold as a child sex slave by his father figure, fights for survival without purpose) gets vindicated when the story "releases" the 2 most interesting characters' respective "demons"
Often though you'd see Guts take the antagonist route- he's ripe for having a "dark lord of chaos" or some edgy dogshit stereotype. But the dynamic of him and Griffith is gripping. Demons and scenarios illustrated is like if you took their more basic dynamic, went on LSD, and ran shit to its spiritual representations with a world that suffers enough to contextualize it well.
Ethan Long
GitS already was adapted into a game for the PS1
Sebastian Rivera
Uhh, make it like the Kunio-kun games I guess.
It would be pretty cool if you didn't play as Ken and he would absolutely fuck your shit up if he found out you did evil shit.
Aiden Brooks
HnK's been done pretty well, the recent game by the Yakuza devs was nice
GITS I don't feel is really adaptable, maybe some TPS shit with hacking elements and vehicles but it'd miss the feel of the games and if they had exposition with subject matter like the manga/tv series it'd fly over most people's heads.
Berserk, just do a God of War/DMC style character action game with RPG trappings, with a bit higher enemy count than those games are generally seen doing. And make it an original side story so it's not just an adaptation like literally every other game it's had.
Alita, similar to the above. The PS1 game was pretty nice.
>Guts >Toxic masculinity >Gets raped as a child and forced to become the bottom bitch of everyone >Gets betrayed horribly by almost everyone he meets. Yeah no shit he becomes a little aggressive you moron.
I hate to agree with him, but as much as I like the Dark Paranormal Berserk, I desperately want another anime/manga with Berserk's artstyle that is set in a historically accurate medieval era. The Golden Age arc almost perfectly covered that for me. I'd like to see more Knights dressed up like pic related in the manga.
That fucking sucks holy shit. I was going to read it. Why did it stop? Or is it like Berserk where the mangaka writes irregularly and has a super long hiatus? >but it's metal as fuck Sold. Berserk PS2 got pretty close. Although Dragon's Dogma is better, I agree. It was a demon disguised as a girl who coincidentally also massacred and helped raped his girl during the Golden Age Arc. So it was fucking justified, he was killing a rapist by your logic, moron.
fist of the north star is already well adapted in the form of hokuto ga gotoku and also the various musou games.
ghost in the shell i would do a tactical RPG like the original fallouts
berserk i think would work in a game like dragon's dogma. if i were to make it though i probably wouldn't make it about guts. it'd be about your story in midland where maybe your paths cross once or twice
I know you're baiting but I'll humor you >It's consensual >It's not a woman it's a demon >The "woman" was doing it because she thought she could trick him into getting close enough to kill him
> the random turn into DEEP fantasy and religious imagery with demons and hell and shit from the relatively "medieval tactical" route it had earlier would be deemed jumping the shark What random turn? The first three volumes of the manga are about Guts hunting demon monsters with a spunky fairy sidekick.
Jose Davis
Well holy shit. Now I am completely sold. I was already sold when someone said it was metal as fuck but now I am completely sold. What's this about it ending on a cliffhanger though?
People who make and post these images are doing the equivalent of r/wooosh-ing people. It's incredibly reddit to demean someone elses enjoyment of a thing because of your retarded worldview. Your favorite video game is shit
Ryan Scott
You forgot POLICE BRUTALITY
There's a PS2 GitS and it sucks.
Nathaniel Harris
Gits literally in fox engine as a SMGS clone for gameplay, with the exception of good Melee combat/cqc for the major.
Just have it all set in the main city from either gits or sac. There's a lot of variety that could happen for missions that would lead to varied gameplay. Tachikoma levels, stealth/stakeout/trailing missions, assaults on bases of operations for terrorists, even stopping rogue bots.
He'll just give the major a way to fight against bots that isn't just kicking ir explosives and have her jump into them to tear shot outbound panels and what not.
Colton Ortiz
>DB Fighterz was an incredibly rare fluke of a high quality anime game ASW was known for producing high quality anime games though. Less rare when you consider DBFZ is just Mahvel when Infinite dropped the ball.

Alita just got a movie this year, how come so few people have read it?
>stop making fun of me for liking muh philosophy!!!! Hi, Reddit
Logan Hernandez
>What's this about it ending on a cliffhanger though?
I haven't read in a while but last chapter I saw was DS giving the devils daughter an orgasm. And it was volume 27 actually. .
Brandon Long
i find it hard to relate with an established female protagonist
Logan Butler
Unless you watched the movies-only and then went to the manga. It wasn't some "random turn". The manga starts with the Black Swordsman arc showing Guts hunting demons and then "flashing back" to the Golden Age Arc. It works as story pacing, no one would call it jumping the shark.
I don't know where this presumption that the Golden Age Arc was the first arc of the manga came from. Was the Black Swordsman arc really that predictable?
Wyatt Torres
There's a PS1 GitS and it's neat.
Tyler Lewis
no you stupid fucker, you completely misinterpreted my statement. You're reddit
Chase Reed
Because it was pushed off to February, spent close to two decades in dev hell and got buried by marvel shit.
The author just kind of dropped off the face of the earth and stopped working on it. He said something about turning it into a light novel series because he couldn't keep up the drawings anymore but as far as I know nothing has happened in YEARS. But what we did get...
I mean there hasn't been any OFFICIAL cancellation or anything that Im aware of but this was like 7 years ago.
Carter Murphy
I wouldn't be surprised. But I wouldn't say it's the anime. Because the first episode starts with the Black Swordsman arc and then goes to Golden Age. I'd argue it's the fault of people who watched the Golden Age movies that had almost nothing about the Black Swordsman arc until the ending. The movies weren't bad but holy fuck that was a bad choice.
Shit. That's concerning, maybe he took a break. Ah well, I'll still give it a shot. The art looks top-tier.
Jace Price
>GitS >Oldschool Rainbow 6 but with cyborgs and cyberpunk I need this now.
>Shit. That's concerning, maybe he took a break. Ah well, I'll still give it a shot. The art looks top-tier.
Just read what's out there, throw on some Metallica and enjoy the ride while it lasts. The series is all spectacle anyways.
Ethan Perry
>The art looks top-tier It gets that way eventually but you'll be slogging through some pretty generic stuff at the start.
Eli Perez
I got introduced through anime. I watched the first episode, and yes Zodd appears midway. But I never really had that on the very FRONT of my mind. I didn't expect just how quickly and how far the Eclipse would scale, but it pushed the ridiculousness so far so well in my opinion. It did its job of being terrifying and impactful. I swapped over to manga right after and started from the very very beginning.
No offence, but I have to agree with the original image. The most pretentious redditfags I've ever met are the ones that keep praising GiTS for "muh philosophy" and then existentially crumble when I tell them that the manga started off as a Yuri Porn manga and that the movies were made later with philosophy in mind. Whilst I see why someone would like the philosophy, I still find those that keep on praising it and acting like it's the king of all anime as fucking pretentious as shit. Really I find the most enjoyable GiTS fans to be the ones that knew the manga started off as porn but still enjoy all of it because they realise that philosophy isn't really what makes an anime good and that it's how enjoyable a manga or anime is that makes the manga/anime good. And both the manga and the anime are pretty enjoyable. The original image is just complaining about all those faggots that put GiTS over a higher pedestal above all anime because >muh philosophy
Im still made we haven't seen any reprints of the uncensored version. Even the recent(ish) hard bound copy cut out the lesbo sex scene. I don't care if even Shirow called it gratuity I don't want to buy a gutted book.
Austin Williams
Like I said, yes I watched the first episode. It was in the back of my mind but during the whole golden era saga wasn't really remembered. I knew eventually the series would make that make sense, but how or at what rate or with what stakes I didn't know. Also- this discussion is on the premise of "wah, berserk should've been a medieval GoT-like series rather than insane monsters and demons" and I was arguing against that. I might be mixing up reply chains.
Jaxson Hernandez
He hasn't played Hokuto no Ken: Seiki Matsukyu Seishi Densetsu. Why living?
Bad idea. You missed out on the fairy stuff and the count from the beginning of the manga. That establishes the stuff that happens much better, in the anime they only show the Snake Baron. My method of watching/viewing Berserk was reading the first arc of the manga first (Black Swordsman) and then watching the anime and Golden Age movies. It gave me far more perspective on what's to come. Of course if you skipped the Black Swordsman arc the supernatural stuff will seem super jarring. Hell even the God Hand were in the Black Swordsman arc.
>I might be mixing up reply chains. I think you are.
That sounds fun. I've been looking for something like Berserk or Devilman for a while and this might be perfection. Gotcha I don't have a problem with that. I like 80s manga art style anyways.
This.
I did, the game was amazing and probably the best Hokuto game ever.
Weird. In Italy I remember finding hard-bound copies of the books with everything uncensored, they were recent reprints too. I could be wrong and misremembering though.
Austin Jackson
I wish someone could mod the original Rainbow Six and do something like this. Would be fucking great.
How’s that Fist of Blue Sky spin-off to Hokuto no Ken? Good? Meh?
Lincoln Lee
Maybe you just got lucky by not living in a puritin shit hole but outside the initial Dark Horse release every subsequent release has been edited. I haven't seen it in person but reading reviews even the Deluxe Edition from Kodansha(?) has been edited.
Elijah Garcia
I thought the first anime series was kind of of okay. It's got that cool yakuza mafia bro thing going for it. Did not watch the shitty looking CGI one though.,
>Maybe you just got lucky by not living in a puritin shit hole Fortunately Italy may not be puritan, but it's another kind of shit hole unfortunately. At least we have the benefit of uncensored manga (for the most part) >every subsequent release has been edited I blame the popularity of the original anime. It convinced people that GiTS was a full philosophy anime and not just some wild Cyberpunk manga with porn elements.
>I did, the game was amazing and probably the best Hokuto game ever.
It was pretty good. If I remember well, though, there was this ass long unskippable cutscenes and savings so far between that you could play for 2 hours without one. It was super frustrating when you inevitably lost a combat with a boss the first 15 times, because you did not know yet the fucking combination.
Ayden Peterson
>At least we have the benefit of uncensored manga (for the most part) TV got censured again and again. Mangas, if they were censored in Japan, they were in Italy as well. I am still salty about Golden Boy being censored. Also, what kind of clusterfuck was the manga?
>Bastard gets a game adaptation >it gets rebooted every year
Parker Lee
>ass long unskippable cutscenes That's odd, I remember skipping through them. Thanks, the art style seems perfect for me. I'll be enjoying this then.
Angel Morales
>Golden Age movies I never liked the movies. They seem to mischaracterize literally everyone. I LOVED the original anime. Yeah the art wasn't SSS+ tier, but it did an excellent job with its soundtrack, being serene and taking its time letting you absorb things. youtube.com/watch?v=8Ak_jATqoRc There were often just random shots of landscape, characters contemplating- opportunity for you to form assumptions about Griffith from more mild "calmer" interactions. Its made even better if you know Guts REAL backstory (tragic past/ childhood) and does more to contextualize the golden age as the more calmer/ "shit makes sense" era. I feel the anime did amazing at characterizing Griffith as ACTUALLY charismatic. The movies made him too "creepy gay boy" while the anime made you secretly want to be friends with him/ see him go through with his goals. He was tempered, reserved, wise/ witty while also being a bit scary. Guts on the other hand was more or less like a "lost boy"- an idiot. Meat head. And that's what the story needed him to be, for other characters to reflect off him, contextualize themselves compared to Guts and his tragic past but now inhuman abilities. He was a monster- akin to Zodd in post Eclipse era of Griffith's regime. His innocent "betrayal" of Griffith to pursue some kind own dream of his, in the most child-like innocent form of simply finding himself, leading to Griffith turning a "happy ending" into the worst hell imagineable, speaks volumes on the two characters. The movies TOTALLY fucked this dynamic up by turning Guts into more of this *almost* crybaby, and Griffith into a gay elf evil boi.
I think the way the original anime was done is SO fucking good for transitioning to the manga- where you've now got the purity of the golden age and its serenity to compare with the pure fucking chaos of Guts' past and (narrative-wise) present.
I did end up reading the manga from the very beginning and catching up!
>TV got censured again and again That's Italian television for you. You can show naked girl tiddies for certain real girls but not in anime. What's weird is in the early 2000s I remember seeing a lot of uncensored anime on TV. But nowadays I think things have changed. >Mangas, if they were censored in Japan, they were in Italy as well. Then maybe I was wrong, maybe the version of Ghost in the Shell I found was an older print. I remember finding Devilman copies that were uncensored though. >I am still salty about Golden Boy being censored. What's the story behind that? I only watched the OVAs.
Austin Turner
literal retard protip: Skyrim and similar action RPGs are not RPGs
I had a PAL pirated copy, if that counts. It was not an adaptation, in the sense that it was in Japanese, but it must have been a PAL version (as my PS1)

> What's the story behind that? I only watched the OVAs. That is mostly a personal story. Golden Boy got showed on Tuesday Anime Night on MTV and it was amazing. After midnight they'd show the uncensored version and it was even greater. But we had to schedule the VCR to record it and it was complicated. That one VCR one of us got was consumed by horny pre-teens in days.
Then rumor got spread in middle school that the manga was fully uncensored. We put together the money (6000 liras per copy, I think. A lot for us) and it was the craziest shit on earth. Still censored, but basically a hentai. It was entertaining though.

I don't have anything to say I just wanted to post this
>>Hokuto no ken >God Hand but with platforming/aerial combat and moral choices and a dynamic world. Fail to stop one gang? They raise a local city. Beware your rival kung fu guys unless you think you are ready to take them. So God Hand with Shadow of Mordor/War's nemesis' system? I'd be down for that.
