I don't really like anime but western design usually comes down to "muh realism" and I can't think of anything more bland and uninteresting than realism. There are some western games that break out of the mold of course, and I usually find those the most interesting, but by and large western design is just boring garbage.
Like the OP image for example. Her gigantic weapons are completely ridiculous and should be impossible for her to carry, that cape should make her immobile due to the sheer size of it, and she's wearing a leotard or a swimsuit but still feels the need to wear plate on her hands and feet, but its fun and doesn't take itself seriously.
