What went wrong exactly with Jurassic World: Evolution?
Why didn't it live up to the hype set before it by Operation Genesis?

I just realized my post number is the same year Operation Genesis came out.
personally, I had those nostalgia glasses on. I think its an ok game I don't regret the purchase, but I would have preferred an hd remake of OG. also, since then, I have come to know dinosaurs as feathered creatures and the fact that JP as a franchise doesnt update kind of kills it for me. I understand they are going the rout of "the scientists dont actually make dinosaurs they make what they thought dinosaurs were" but I would just prefer they made them more accurately.
Glorified mobile game.
It was rushed and had a botched launch.
Its alot better now. Not perfect, but def. superior to where it was. JPOG, while a true classic, and among my top 3 vidya ever, has also blinded a good amount of people with nostalgia. JWE is a worthy sequel.
>t. Bought it twice, working on all cheevos/trophies for the second time
We all have ‘that one game’.
huh.. cool beans.
licensed game 1 out of every 500 is actually good.
What have they changed that made it better than its original version?
I haven't played myself.
This.
>improved dinosaur herding ai
>improved dinosaur needs ai
>added dinosaur needs gene modding (dlc)
>added challenge mode (JPOG mode with actual difficulty settings, unlockables, and some settings)
>added terrain painting (grass, dirt, rock, sand, shoal)
>added scenery options rather than just paint-brushing nature in
>added special needs/feeding for spinosaurs
>some other shit
So literally nothing that fixes the gameplay and gives it any depth. Got it. That's not an improvement, that's the same shit game it always was.
They ignored the tycoon aspects of the game and focused entirely on the pet simulation aspects.
Im pretty sure having elss content and park management option than Genisis was what went wrong.
There's not even really a pet simulation aspect to it.
The game as a whole is really shallow. When I got it I had gotten it for around $12 on sale. I really enjoyed the first like... I'd say 15 or 16 hours of it, which makes me feel like it was technically worth my purchase-- but once I really started looking into everything and realized I wasn't unlocking anything with depth I realized how shallow it was as a game. Which is a shame, because they have the basics for a great park tycoon game and I know the devs are capable of it. Adding modding tools/the ability to mod would have easily saved the game despite being lazy. That being said, whoever owns JP at the moment (WB?) said no to any sort of modding tools to rid themselves of the responsibility of something copyright being modded in. It's a shame, really.

You hope for way to much, it couldnt save Vermintide 2, although getting proper modifications for a park simulator would be easier.
will anything ever come close again?
not only that, it was released on the 7.7.2003. this has to be some sort of magic.
the franchise adresses that issue. in jurassic world and the Tell Tale Jurassic Park game it is stated that the frog dna they mix in fucks with the feathers.
It’s a pretty fun game but after you see all the dinos and unlock everything(which doesn’t take long) there isn’t much replay value to it. If they added aquatic or avian dinos to it I would probably play it again but reskins of Trex and Triceratops wont convince me to play it again.
it's a game rushed as fuck with zero customization or mechanics when they started to charge to get the "new" hybrids those kikes died for me
Yeah if it was on Switch I could see myself playing it more but I just don’t feel like booting up my Xbox just to play this game. It feels much more like a mobile/handheld kinda game you can just jump into really quick for a few minutes and play on the go.
Which one is this? I remember playing this a lot when I was younger. Is it the Zoo Tycoon game that also had Marine Mania and Dino dlc or something?
Vermintide 2 was shit, anyway.
You hope for too little regarding how popular mods for shit like ARK and other park simulators are. Operation Genesis still has a modding community that's active, iirc.
the first one yes
Too much Jurassic, not enough park.
Jurassic Park aesthetic > Jurassic World aesthetic

Does anyone know if this is a worthy modern dino park compared to Operation Genesis?
Agreed, I fucking hate that bland grey and blue aesthetic they keep trying to force on everything.
this, there's something very generic slick future about it
please be good please be good please be good
What is it that makes the JP style so comfy?
was operation genesis even that good? I remember it being a mediocre zoo game back then
It was pretty fun, but the main problems were
>too much micromanaging
>restocking enclosures after your dinos start dying of old age is a pain, so you ended up being punished for taking your time with one park instead of moving on to the next
>very few options for giving visibility for the dinos. Endgame is just having gyrospheres everywhere that look like garbage
>dinos aren’t considered “visible” when they’re off the path right on the other side of a chain fence
At least, that’s all I can remember. It’s been at least half a year since I played it last
Small maps, not a lot of customization, fairly linear answers to the missions, restrictive economy.
It's a pretty honest 3/5. Worth a pirate or buy on sale if you really like dinos.
I couldn't agree more.
Why on earth would a studio lean into that by-the-numbers near-future look when you've got your own, prime aesthetic to build on. What a missed opportunity for the sake of being 'new'.
Silly as it sounds out loud; no red and yellow, no buy.
its meme shit
Man, I hope it is.
I just want a comfy zoo-building game that scratches that Zoo Tycoon itch.
What do you mean
Huge lack of content at launch. Had less dinos and overall content than operation genesis. Its actually pretty good now with updates but it needed more time in development rather than releasing it later as DLC. I imagine the game also had a rushed development to make sure it released close to Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom like it did.
the colors
JW uses a very lifeless blue and grey
No balloons and or other more tourist attractions, more big carnivores for vanilla
