get HTC vive instead, it's better

It's a straight upgrade in just about every way. Headset and controllers are comfy, and there's less cords to mess with than Vive surprisingly.

Had the Vive, have this now, its a large step up.
I personally would call it VR 2.0 because its what vr should have always been, you can play for hours on end and the resolution won't fuck with you.

hows the pixel density etc. compared to the rift

How are the controllers? I'm 6'4 so I have big hands, will that fuck with the finger tracking? Also I heard they're kind of cheap, is that true?

Rift is Meh
Index is Good, not perfect but Good

higher framerate? can you still see the pixels?

If you look for it, sure, but you adapt to them much quicker than you ever would for a rift, which has the worst resolution in the industry

aight, shit's still god damn expensive plus cables...

i just got my htc vive almost a year ago. Looks cool but i don't have 800 dollars to spend on another headset. Might get the knuckles though.

It can do 60hz, 90hz, 120hz and 144hz

Controllers feel amazing and build-wise a huge step over the Rift S. People have complained with the difficulty in clicking down on the sticks while they're held in a direction, but most games don't regularly require that type of input and everything else about it feels great. I recommend anyone with a Vive to at least get the controllers.
Finger-tracking is recalibrated every time you press home and return to the game, so if it messes up for any reason its a quick fix. The band that goes around your hand is adjustable, so you should be fine.

>144hz
really?? rift can only do 90

>Controllers feel amazing
but not every game is compatible are t hey

Wait for the pixel inversion issue to get sorted first (supposedly soon via software?) at the very least, maybe see if valve does something about the controllers which is much less of an issue to me.
Its still a massive upgrade from the OG Vive.

Yes, but I think its either in the experimental or beta stage atm

i have fairly big hands too and the finger tracking works fine. as long as some part of your finger is touching the sensor area, it will detect it.
though mind you, not many games really support full finger tracking yet.

there have been complains about the thumb sticks where if you press it in a direction and click down, theres no tactile click. though some people dont have this problem.
even if you dont hear a click, the button still works so i guess it really depends if you care about such a thing.

overall though, the controls feel pretty solid in my opinion. the only time it kinda feels cheap is if youre gripping the controller tight to activate the gripping button. you get that slight plastic creeking sound.

Anything that isn't compatible you can emulate Vive wands or the Rift controllers through Steam VR. Skyrim VR even has a mod for Index support (but no finger-tracking last time I checked).

Pavlov, Beat Saber and VRChat all support it. In Pavlov's case it's miles better over the Vive wands.

The OG Rift has the same res as the Vive but IIRC better SDE due to the smaller panels that they use. It is very obviously better in terms of display comparing to the OG Vive in every way except for maybe the colours when SPUD is turned off.

As for the Index, pixel inversion is in my opinion even worse than the Rift SDE as it is very fucking distracting and might even be getting worse.

>As for the Index, pixel inversion is in my opinion even worse than the Rift SDE as it is very fucking distracting and might even be getting worse.
meaning

He's retarded, there is little to SDE on the Index, the man is a Facebook shill

never ran into any problems yet and ive pirated a bunch of VR games.

the index controller has all the buttons(and more) the vive has. the touchpad on the vive gets moved to the thumbstick or the smaller touchpad on the index controller.
and if anything doesnt work for whatever reason, you can just remap them.

the same goes with playing oculus exclusive games with the index controllers. no compatibility issues either.

Vertical lines that look like scan lines that appear only when you move your head horizontally.
I see people swearing that every headset has it to an extent after going through multiple RMAs but I know someone who 100% says they don't have it.
I'm waiting to see what the upcoming update is gonna be about before going for RMAs too because I can't stand it and I'm out of the return window.I would say that mine is more obvious than pic related at this point.

Aside from this issue, the clarity on the Index is fucking insane and pushing SS at 120Hz makes it shine even more.

I just know what I'm talking about as I own all of these headsets as well as WMR.

i bet its just a panel timing issue which can be solved with firmware. i do not nitice it as extreme as others claim. even if i try to fucus at it, it doesnt really bother me so much that i have to RMA it right away as others did. imo they overreact, exaggerate and are entitled dicks just looking for flaws since they feel they payed to much or something. im playing my games, having a blast with the new hardware, with a box of previous hmd`s collecting dust now. dk1, dk2, go, vive, vive pro. the index is such a step up, the sound on these off ear speakers is incredible as well.

hows feeling nautious?

i havent had any motion sickness since the dk2. lighthouse 6dof tracking fixed it for me

>lighthouse 6dof
what is that

It also has worse glare than the OG Rift as well (not quite Vive frensel rings tier thankfully) but MUCH better godrays. The amount will depend on how well you manage to put it on which is, funny enough, fucking hard to get right at first if you have an ayylmao head like me I guess.

Yes it is a massive step up from everything that I have tried too but its way too distracting with how it pops in and out of view rather than just being there making it easier to forget like SDE. I really do hope that the next update will sort it though as I really don't want to give up the headset.

I have had VR for over a year now, I'm mostly over VR sickness - Yes you can get over it if you don't go full retard as I couldn't handle games like Pavlov at first.

>I just know what I'm talking about as I own all of these headsets as well as WMR.

Same, youre just a shil.

theres literally 3 games that properly use features of the new controllers

There is a reason why I didn't mentioned any Oculus headset other than the OG Rift. S is a fucking insulting joke and the Quest is mobile with no games. I refuse to give Facebook anymore shekels after them. Besides, OG Rift isn't being sold anymore.
Believe what you want.

I believe my own eyes, you must have a faulty headset

>VR Sickness
>First day I got a headset
>Did VRChat amusement park world and went on all the rides until I wanted to die

Trial by fire.

Hopefully that's it. Means I can get it fixed and get back to enjoying the headset as I mentioned. Especially if its firmware. But, again, I have seen way too many people with the issue RMA theirs and get worse units or people who only caught on to it once it was mentioned to them - which is why I spoiled it the picture and description.
Yours could have no issue and congrats if so.

I went from Pavlov to playing Skyrim sitting down on a laptop that can barely hit 45 fps. Was out for a day after.

Any new VR games coming out?

This month on steam from what I remember:
store.steampowered.com/app/669290/Espire_1_VR_Operative/
store.steampowered.com/app/858260/Until_You_Fall/
And NMS I guess.

i don't think i like the audio solution, and the controllers are gay but it is definitely better than the vive which btw also has gay controllers

Not really, there's some "big" title from Valve and Respawn and No Man Sky is getting a VR update

Nothing to justify a $1k headset at least

Lmao how do people even get VR sickness
When I was a wee lad I was spinning myself dizzy and churning my stomach for fun, VR is nothing

Out of interest, how come? I find the off ear speakers quality to be really good and love the comfort. Always hate wearing my DT880s after my VR sessions.

In terms of big games, there is also Asgard's Wrath and Stormland.

By not doing any of that and also being a shut in for extended periods of time. I got over VR sickness thankfully but I still can't stand cars.

LOL
