Unless Blizzard pulled something out of their asses to magically make classic servers better than retail, then yes, we have an idea of what the capacity is. Sure, classic is less intensive so those servers will be able to handle more, but if there's any real player retention at all, those servers are 100% not going to be able to handle it without layering.

Also if they're installing new servers for Classic then there is a good chance they actually can handle more players (with the lesser power demand like mentioned by Classic) and there's no reason to worry. It boils down to three things
>streamers
>sharding
>intended server caps
If there are less servers to play on, then it means you will most likely have to play on a server with a big streamer on it, which is a godawful experience. Judging from the current server list, it will be impossible to avoid streamers. Additionally, one of the NA servers is going to be taken over by Brazilian monkeys, so it will be virtually be unplayable by non-huehues.
This time around, blizzard has implemented a thing called “sharding”, where basically if there are too many people in one area, that population will be split among multiple instances of that area. So for example, if you’re playing with your friend and your current shard reaches capacity, then your friend can vanish into another shard. This is really bad for server communities because it essentially makes every player impermanent, and prevents large-scale events from taking place. Blizzard has stated in the past that sharding in Classic only be a temporary solution to deal with the initial zergfest that will happen on release, and that it will be gone a few months after the game releases, but if server populations are reaching 15k+, they may just have to stick to sharding, which no one but Blizzard wants.
And the last problem with having huge servers is that the game simply isn’t designed around them. Economies will be fucked, and finite resources like ores and herbs will be camped. The original developers have stated in the past that the game having a 2-3k population cap was intentional, and the game was designed around this. Allowing servers to go above the intended cap basically destroys that foundational design.
Depends on your perspective. If classic really does fuck over retail in numbers as everyone says - why wouldn't they? It's the only smart business move. If there's even a possibility of it being a Jagex situation where classic actually becomes to main devline then again - why wouldn't they? Just makes them more money.
That being said they've also made nothing but wrong turns in the past few years even while attempting to butter up the community. So why would anyone think they could pull it off?
At the end of the day either one could be right. All I'm saying is that threads like these are incredibly pointless right now and serve as nothing but an angry echo chamber that could look absolutely retarded should the opinions be proven wrong. We have no idea. Even if one thing comes out - the server list - that looks like a bad sign we still can't take that and run with it. We don't know the capacity. Layering? We don't know if it will actually be turned off. Game population and retention? Nobody knows if classic will actually take off and survive in the current industry climate.
Why get riled up over it when we're going to see very soon what the result actually is?

the game is designed around a few k, like 2-3k per server. Having so few servers while knowing the prospects ARE WAY HIGHER. They can gauge the amount of players that are gonna play on classic based on this month's subscription, polls, and other indicators. There is no way in hell this few servers are gonna serve all expected players. They will rely hardcore on sharding or whatever technique to minimize server. This obviously diminished the gameplay experience. They cannot be so idiotic after the vanilla and wod launch fiasco. They know what they're doing and they're cutting corners hardcore.

Generally people try to stay in character when talking in say/yell/whispers. Trade /general channels are less so. People take it as serious as they want to. Plus there are RP addons to give your character a description and personality. You can set yourself as in or out of character I think. Not sure about raids. Probably not too RP strict unless you join a guild that takes it super serious maybe.

No not really. Most RPers have a spot where they RP. While some did, very few because RP while raiding does not really work. Some will type in an RP manor but you just go with it. The roles tend to be, you don't have to RP, just don't be a dick to those that are. On Defias RP was mostly PvP focused. Like we would set up patrols in Ashenvale to clear it of any dirty horde. While the patrols were up no Horde could quest without backup.
I need to find a website full of dwarven insults and banters.
Remember to bring lots of booze for the dungeon run. A drunkard dwarf hiccuping and slurring insults sounds great.
