Name a scarier game.
Protip: You can't.
>tfw no Cheryl daughter to search
As a zoomer user who's too young to remember life before 9/11, what was the general atmosphere like back in '99?
Time to play Snowboard kids 2
brb guys i'm gonna be born in a few minutes
>Playstation has no games
so(n)yboys are SEETHING over the dreamcast exclusives
I don't like it. I'm going back on Crash Team Racing.

>ITT:zoomers acting like modern Yea Forums
You always failed.
how can one black man be SO based?
The best girl. You can’t refute this.
is that what you stole from some innocent white kid in 1999?
lmao
>and if you don't believe me you are either a retard or a nigger

Will you please STOP stealing video games?
It’s an edit.
the most people where worried about in 1999 was the Y2K bug and even then most people just took the piss
life was pretty fucking easy after the berlin wall fell up until 2001
>waa waa gib milkies
>eats his own shit
It's not. You can find the post yourself.
>It's an edit
Nope.
Who would have known it would take 20 years for an actual gaystation?

Even if his prediction wasn't quite on the mark he is truly based and redpilled.
Why are dad memes nonsensical gibberish 90% of the time?

War, war never changes.
>Birthday coming up
>Go to my first vidya store to buy a Sega Saturn because it's the only console i ever heard of and my friend won't shut up about it
>Enthusiastic 30 year old boomer employee comes to me and my dad
>Tells me to forget about the Saturn and look at this new console called Playstation. Saturn is out of stock anyway
>Never heard of it, convinced i am getting bamboozled by some slick salesman
>He keeps going on and on about how it's the best thing ever
>Let's me play Tekken 2 and Crash Bandicoot for more than an hour
>Alright I'll trust him
>It really was the best thing ever
That random guy literally changed my life. I missed when vidya was this exiting new wonderful thing from the mystical land of Nipon and you could go to a game store and be attended by people with enthusiasm. That one store went out of business 20 years ago, wonder where that guy is now.
That's like five years later
Used to troll nintendo fags already back in the day. Had a fight with a friend owning a 64 while I was all for Chadstation 1. I mean look at those funny faggy cartoonish graphics lmao
Later on I changed for 64, then changed back again, etc
Sounds like EB Games back when it was called Electronics Boutique.
QUAKE 3 ARENA WOW
wtf how did you get your hands on final fantasy 9? do you work for square enix?
5 years too early.
It was called Megastore if i recall. It was a building with several floors each dedicated to something. Ground floor i remember was music and i think there was a floor dedicated to clothing as well but i might be wrong. I think the vidya floor was the 3rd floor and it was pretty comfy, the walls were lined with black shelves filled with games and there were several demo booths, i think there was stuff hanging from the ceiling to. Definitely the best vidya store i've been in.
more like, nothing has really changed
>Euro Yea Forums hates the N64
>American Yea Forums voted it the greatest console of all time
The N64 might be the single most divisive console of all time.
When y'all niggas gonna get with the times? Nintendo 64? Nintendo 64- that's the number of games on that bitch? More like Nintendo 69, with that controller. Y'all ain't getting me with that controller, that thing got a penis. I ain't gonna give no controller no handjob to play no baby ass games, nahm sayin? Mario be goin' like "HOO!" and shit, come on.
Now the PlayStation? Shiet, the PimpStation be gettin' all the hunnies. All the bitches wanna get wid a nigga that's got a PlayStation.
what the fuck was this bullshit? It's literally just MG2 again.
Euros hate N64 because the console came out late and the game prices were absolutely ridiculous
N64 has about 20 games which are miles better than anything on the ps1 but the rest of the library is horrible. The ps1 has a diverse library with hundreds of great games.
>gaystation
how will we recover sonybros..
>N64 has about 20 games which are miles better than anything on the ps1
Don't be absurd.
>N64 has about 20 games which are miles better than anything on the ps1 but the rest of the library is horrible.
Nah, I'd say it's more like 4 or 5 that even match PS1's best. Certainly not "miles better", that's for sure.
Hey look at this kino 64fags. We're /movies/ now.
>implying anyone played mg2
Bad shitpost
Bro check this out
Much like zoomers memes
No u
For me, it's THPS2.
>the rest of the library is horrible
The system has a lot of hidden gems that don’t get any credit. World Driver Championship is one.
Holy shit this is awful
Mario Sixty-Borefags on suicide watch lmao
Lol epic
Never stop, niggerhands.
Unironically too based for Yea Forums
can;t wait for Christmas and play some Quake 3 campaign
bassed viggro
And they have the guts to have it labeled as a greatest hit already, I bet its going to be so choice
I was remembering wrong, but find a platformer on the ps1 as good as Super Mario 64 or even Banjo Kazooie.
Find an action adventure game as good as Majora’s Mask.
Find a non port fighting game that’s as smooth and responsive as Smash 64.
Find a racing game as fast as F Zero X.
Find an rpg as charming and fun as Paper Mario.
Find an FPS with as much content as Perfect Dark.
Overall the ps1 library is superior but the few good n64 games really shine.
Fav games were
MediEvil
V-Rally
Tomb Raider
Bug's Life
Tai Fu
Tenchu
Resident Evil
Command and Conquerer
I miss being able to stay up all night playing Goldeneye and Mario Party with buddies, drinking soda, going through a bag of chips + pizza, and only feeling mildly groggy the next day.
>hey EB Games is selling super Mario 64 for only $20 pre owned, bretty good deal
Cool pick
Hey Eric, that was a sick ass Doom wad, you should make more
Everything was pretty much the same, but it was easier to get through the airport.
The late 90s were already pretty shit.
Last truly comfy era was early 90s.
>Tai Fu
mah nigga
why are you posting enlish Japananon?
>Platformer as good as Super Mario 64 or Banjo Kazooie
Spyro 1 and Crash 2
>Action Adventure game as good as Majora's Mask
I'll give you that one. The closest would be MGS and those are vastly different games.
>Non-port fighting game
Bullshit. That's just cheating. If it were JUST fighting games, though, as it should be if you didn't wanna cop out. Tekken 3, CvS, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Darkstalkers 3
>Find a racing game as fast as F-Zero X
As fast? Okay. Find a racing game with more content than Gran Turismo 2, since we're going off of arbitrary properties.
>Find an RPG as charming and fun as Paper Mario
Charming is a very vague quality, but with Fun you got me there.
>FPS with as much content as Perfect Dark
Now it's about content?
Spyro was better than Banjo. Mario 64 was far better than both though. Rayman was my favourite platformer of that gen though.
Tekken 3 > Smash 64
Ridge Racer Type 4 > F Zero X
lmao there are a PLETHORA of PS1 RPGS better than Paper Mario 64
The Quake 2 PS1 port was really impressive. Far better than the N64 port, but you don't count ports for some reason.
>Spyro 1 and Crash 2
These are B grade platformers and are appropriately grouped with others like Croc and Gex
That's why we're seeing Croc and Gex remakes right now that sell like fucking hotcakes, right?
signing it is the icing on the cake
>Quake 2 PS1 port was really impressive. Far better than the N64 port
I disagree. Quake 2 on N64 is literally the most colorful game in the entire 5th generation. It’s the only game across all platformers in that gen to run in 24-bit color. Every single other game runs in 15-bit color.
*platforms
I was born today
>Find a non port fighting game
just because every fighting game developer ignored your shit console doesnt mean those games didnt exist
Soul Blade, Tekken 3, Marvel VS Capcom, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Bloody Roar shit all over the first Smash
the only other good fighting game option besides that on N64 was Killer Instinct Gold and even that was a butchered port
And remember!
Respect is everything!
i dont see this series going anywhere
DMA should go back to Lemmings
Crash and Spyro selling like hot cakes is due to a dearth of good new platform games on PS4 and the fact that PS1 had a large install base of now nostalgic 20 somethings. Gex 2 sold pretty well back then. A HD remake for it would sell well too just for nostalgia despite not being that great of a game.
This.
Depends a lot on what you're specifically referring to. I was a child in the late 90's, so I sure-as-shit can't tell you what it was like through the eyes of someone with any perspective. But as a kid growing up in a middle-class family, there was this vague sense that we were living in a 'post-history'. Bigotry, war, and poverty were dead or dying.
Look @ this cool picture of an alien I found
Spyro and Crash also sold hotcakes on Switch where they to compete with fucking Mario himself
is this really the hill you want to die on user?
Hey guys isn't it strange that the gas Chambers had wooden doors
Well Psygonis isn't going anywhere soon, so no worries.
I am playing quake 2, cashoals
youtube.com
You are entitled to your opinion, but most people would disagree with you based on the comments.
This game was fucking terrifying youtu.be
Guys I can’t wait for Evergrace
>the platform for people who like platformers sells a lot of platformers
ya don’t say
I thought I was a smart little bitch running atound the carousel to set up a shooting range on Cybil...then she appeared in front of me riding a horse with a look that made me pause the game
Get on with the times.
Ok no more images, I am overloading the phone cable. Mom is going to be suspicious for another high phone bill. I will blame sister that she's calling too much to her friends.
Ancient video by a PS1 fanboy where the PS1 is capture with RGB and the N64 with composite
>doesnt count!
Me too, there is also an looking good anime game being developed by a company i heard about just now, i hope they well promote it so a fanbase where i can discuss about it will exist.
I hope you guys aren't sleeping on SF3. It's fucking great now.
I miss 1999 Yea Forums bros... I wish i could experience it again...
I've been on this shitty site for 22 years already and it just gets worse
water fights on the street, TV was amazing, nobody had cellphones, all the boys would come over for 4-player N64 games, the internet was dialup, home-phones were 7-digits, no area codes even where I lived
the super-tolerant political correctness hadn't set in yet, and there was no internet "culture"
Same
Gen Xers used to consider 1998-2004 the downfall of pop culture and the cancerous teen pop / nu metal / trl / mike scully simpsons era. People kept saying "1993-1997 was the true 90s" or "That 98-99 pokemon britney nsync crap wasn't true 90s, felt more like proto-2000s".
But nowadays, you have people in their late 20s on Buzzfeed/Twitter saying 1998-2004 was the golden age of pop culture or "the 90sest era ever", and consider anything before 1998 to be outdated/overrated/not interesting for them. A complete reversal in opinions.
Is this good gamer fuel Yea Forums?
youtube.com
What shitty site is that? God forbid it became a mainstream media one day.
Nice copy pasta.
I wasn't born for another 2 years
The Gen Xers were right. 1999 culture is virtually indistinguishable from culture on say September 10 2001.
1996 was the last year I thought felt wholly 90s with none of the proto-2000s seeping in. It was fully blown by 1999.
>being developved
that what i also wished since it was likely rushed to release
Get out of the way, old man.
>be a young third-world poorfag
>too young to be working part time
>the only thing I could save with my measly allowance is a memory card
>skipped classes and used lunch money to play Resident Evil 2, Silent Hill, and Vigilante 2nd Offense and save their progress from small shacks that lets me play the Playstation for an hourly fee
>4 years later
>landed myself a job as a water delivery guy
>bought myself a brand new but modified PSone
>PS2 already came out
>didn't care and played tons of RPGs from FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, Tales of Destiny 1-2, Thousand Arms, Alundra, Grandia, etc.
>all pirated games
A THIRD PARTY ONE-OFF SKIN WOW
Gen Xers are correct.
guy made an imageboard that took off. ran it quite well too, but what's he up to now? orbiting?

if only we were wise enough to strangle zoomers in their crib when we had the chance
Pure kino
Kids these days!
Back in my day we would crush each other’s skulls in with rocks for fun, these video games are not good and not healthy
What about Saturn? Have fun not playing the best 2D games of the gen defined by only a few 3D games being legit.
my dad just got a new job, working at the world trade center! awesome!
Just saw two guys fucking behind a McDonalds. I called the police and told both of them they were going straight to Hell. I think the cops started beating the shit out of them after I left.
>still hasn't got the Real Driving Simulator Gran Turismo 2(TM)
SEGAfags btfo
>this post is over 22 years old
more things change, more they stay the same goddamn it
there was graffiti shitposting in pompeii for example
mario 64 isn't as good as everyone says, when the remember the game, they only remember the first few levels, the third floor onwards had some pretty bad level design.
Forgetting someone
i thought the commercial said not to underestimate the power of playstation?
>No flying toasters
>No randomly generating 3D pipes
>No ms paint lines spinning against a black background
Going against political correctness was mainstream, Jack Thompson was largely ignored, games were 10/10, game magazines were 10/10, there was still a scene at the arcade if you could find them, and you could pick out the retards in your life by how hard they fell for the Y2K meme.
Since you are and expert. What was the "true" nineties like?
Deluded nintendie
>>Find an RPG as charming and fun as Paper Mario
>Charming is a very vague quality, but with Fun you got me there.
The PSX is literally the golden age of RPGs
I can't wait for Dad to bring more ps1 games.
I wonder why they never have a case and the cd is always white with just the game name on it.
>water fights on the street
I miss that more than anything.
Not just personally, but as a concept. The last water fight I've ever seen was on field day during senior year because me and the football team were feeling nostalgic and spread it to all the other clubs until it was chosen as the theme.
My little brother never chased little girls with a giant plastic water gun or met a gf by taking a water balloon for her, and it sickens me.
Fuck the future, and fuck Chris Hansen for making every parent too scared to let their kids go outside and use gallons of water for amusement.
Some things never change. Even in ancient rome shitposting was a thing
I meant in sheer "fun", Paper Mario is pretty strong. There's no denying that with shit like Xenogears and FFIX, the PS1 was fucking packed with great RPG stuff.
I remember '99, I was 8yo, and I completed the final fantasy ps1 trilogy in English as a Spanish (from Spain, not an SA ape) kid, playing with a dictionary at all times.
If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have been able to play with other English speakers when I grew older, and that would've meant I never learned English, which would gate me out of my current job and girlfriend.
So basically I have to thanks the ps1 for saving my life.
I think the best way to describe it was the perfect blend of optimism and apathy (instead of the turn of millennium period which was at pollyanna levels of optimism).
I'd describe it also as a period of great transition with technology. There was all of this tech that could do radical new things (look, 3D powerful enough to actually render something reasonably atmospheric!) but it was still rather rough and unrefined. That lack of refinement also meant that the blend of globalism with technology hadn't gone full exploitative yet. In other words, it was a period with a lot of experimentation.
Who she? What anime's that? And why're the graphics look so high-def?
>greatest hits
*yawns*
Are we going to have to post the float again? Or the censorship of female bodies? Come on, man. Snoy doesn't care about you.
>s good as Majora's Mask
Freaking Soul Reaver, and it's castly superior inb4 PC or Dreamcast
point is it doesn't run on your useless box
The studio that made that anime is known for producing extremely shitty shows with garbage animation, they spend their budget in 1 or 2 scenes they know will go viral to bait people into watching their shows.
I won't tell you the name of the anime so you don't feel tempted to watch it, but if you wanna see a prime example of what I just mentioned, watch kill la kill, the first show of that studio and it was absolute garbage bait for anime casual incels, watch out for the replies of this post
Nintendo has done all the same shit, what's your point?
>Nintendo has done all the same shit
Nintendo censored chicks in bikinis? Where?
>I was remembering wrong, but find a platformer on the ps1 as good as Super Mario 64 or even Banjo Kazooie.
Rayma
>Find an action adventure game as good as Majora’s Mask.
MSG
>Find a non port fighting game that’s as smooth and responsive as Smash 64.
Street Fighter, Bloody Roar, and literally a dozen others
>Find a racing game as fast as F Zero X.
CTR
>Find an rpg as charming and fun as Paper Mario.
Shit nigga you retarded? The ps1 was THE RPG machine, almost every single legendary masterpiece rpg belonged to the ps1
>Find an FPS with as much content as Perfect Dark.
I don't know about these since I don't like FPSs that much, but there's probably a few that are better, ps1 medal of Honor games were decent.
CTR is shit and will be remembered in 20 years as a shitty Mario Kart ripoff with no redeeming qualities.
You're such a fucking newfag it's pathetic. Fire Emblem too you newfag fuck.
Similar thing happened to me in Electronics Boutique in the UK in mid 2001
>be 11, almost 12
>go to EB to buy Red Faction (I think) with money my gran gave me
>guy in the shop tells me to check out Onimusha instead
>2shy2say no
>take it home and becomes my all time favourite PS2 game
Used to buy Games Master magazine and never paid attention to anything Onimusha-related but holy shit it was so based
I don't know, I didn't own a WiiU.
>caring about graphics on a 90s machine
o i am laffin
You're absolutely, unironically and honestly retarded, I'm a nintendofag, but this just plain wrong, CTR is one of the best if not the best, most complex and highest skill ceiling racing kart game ever released.
Also, stupid fucking mongoloid zoomer, it is already 20 years old, bet you thought the remake was a new game, lol.
>people who were 4 years old when 2006 began are legal adults
Or a 3DS it seems, how much they paying you these days?
>itt 1999 Yea Forums
>Civillians being bombed in a war of aggression all around me
S-sounds fun
>CTR is one of the best if not the best, most complex and highest skill ceiling racing kart game ever released
CTR has successfully defeated 20 years of Nintendo kart racers. It's amazing Nintendo is even trying, it's such a world beyond what they did and to this day is still an amazing game to play.
You're the one defending Sony, I just told you that they don't care about you and they do loads of gay shit.
You posting what you did just proves console war faggotry is faggotry.
>moving the goalposts
was my first post.
You reminded me of a story my mum told me back when the SNES and Mega Drive were still the current gen.
>1994/5
>Mum hears about all this video games and how they're the hottest thing
>Decides to buy one for my brothers for Christmas
>Goes to the store and asks some guy who works there what to buy
>Guy tells her to buy a SNES because it's the better console
>Some other guy who works there overhears and starts telling her to buy a Mega Drive
>They start arguing about games and how each system has superior graphics, sound, controls etc.
>After around 5 minutes my mum just tells them to stop and she'll buy both
>Must've cost around £400-500 at the time for both consoles
>Christmas time comes around and my dad takes the SNES away on Christmas Eve to give to our cousins because "having one is already more than enough"
She was always like that which was nice going out of her way to ensure we got whatever was best for us, each of us even had our own Gameboy's since she knew how awful it would be the share things. Still, I'm always brought back to this story she told me whenever I see posts like yours.
Wish I was alive to see what those guys were arguing about, must be in their 40's by now.
Shit, why didn't I think of buying my own memory card. I did the same except always prayed someone else doesn't delete my saves on the cards they have.
Now I feel sad 'cause I remembered that I'll never feel the same joy when starting up a video game like I did back then.
and was my first post
I ask you again, what's your point?
>Dad works for Forestry
>manage to get my hands on a Wajax bag
>win every water fight ever
Where did the time go? Damn young'uns today are all on their phones all the time.
>1999
>go to cousins house who has a PS1, I had a PS1 too but they had so many games
>play Resi 2
>play Crash 3
>have the best fucking time
>"borrow this game user you might like it"
>read the manual and see some realistic looking characters, some Jap woman
>think that I won't enjoy it because it's too realistic and therefore not much fun
MGS1 changed my life
My family was alive. Video games were fun. Blockbuster was always busy. GameStop was electronics boutique, tv had great cartoons
>Pac-Man World
>Croc 1 & 2
>A Bug's Life
I didn't even know a post could be this based
With you originally, nothing. Now? Don't be a console war fag. Because they don't care about you.
Also there's a big fucking difference between a bunch of Californians being Californian and gay niggas grinding on a giant sony float. But whatever.
I think I’m gonna need another memory card
>Chun li's body
>tv had great cartoons
cartoons were mostly shitty by 1999
Towards the end of 1996 there were some definite signs, like the film Scream coming out in December, Dragon Ball Z and Sabrina the Teenage Witch premiering on American television in September, and the N64. Plus the Spice Girls were already massive in Europe.
1997 just built on that late 1996 stuff, while also being the same year where things like Grunge, "old" MTV, classic Simpsons and fourth gen consoles were on their very last legs. In many ways it was a period of cultural equilibrium
Nice argument, contrary to you tho, I had the two consoles and played both games when they released, you were probably being born at that time.
CTR is an actual racing game with deep mechanics, MK is a casual party game, no need to be mad, this comes from an era where people like videogames, not videogame brands
>Because they don't care about you.
And Nintendo does? Sounds like "don't be a console war fag" means "fight for nintendo, just ignore just a few years ago they were censoring everything!"
>Also there's a big fucking difference between a bunch of Californians being Californian and gay niggas grinding on a giant sony float. But whatever.
there's not.
my buddy and i played this all summer after 7th grade. stealth camo for peak comfy.
Who wants to come over to my house and play Chu Chu Rocket?
good game
I don't live in Murrica so everything might have been on a 1 year time delay for me. Agree that the Spice Girls already sounded like late 90s / early 00s music despite being introduced in 1995. The whole pop music industry copied them. Well I guess they still had a bit of the audible Eurodance influence. Britney finished that off completely.
If you liked videogames you wouldn't care about these things.
I care about censorship because I like video games.
:O
Mario And Pokemon is fuuuuuuun!
I was 3 and my parents split.
>And Nintendo does?
Didn't say it did.
>just ignore just a few years ago they were censoring everything
Didn't say that either.
>there's not.
There's no difference between fags dry humping each other and random people holding a banner? k
Honestly it looks like you just want to talk to yourself here, so I'm going to go ahead and bow out. Count it as a win.
No you don't, you care about drama and your stupid opinion because like all other XXI century people you only know narcissism and need to desperately feel you're fighting for the "correct" cause or side, marketers realized this a few years ago and you all sub 80 IQs have fallen for the bait hook line and sinker
At least you admit you were wrong.
>that's the number of games on that bitch?
God I wish.
>be me
>around ~1998
>ramadan is over, time for some motherfucking Eid party
>parents told me they'd buy me a game
>want Monkey Hero
>store doesnt have it
>parents buy Battle Arena Toshinden 3 instead
>game turns out to be absolute dogshit
I hated my parents since then and became atheist. I still havent played monkey hero and I'm still mad.
So why ignore the fact that Nintendo currently is less censorious than Sony?
You pull shit from years ago, but forget that times have changed and Sony is doing the censoring.
I care about censorship because it impacts video games, especially Japanese ones you psued.
See I much prefer the optimism that was lost on 9/11
>ehrgeiz
Little me could never go far in that dungeon crawler. It seemed fucking impossible.
There's nothing divisive about a console that only sold decently in America and flopped massively in the rest of the world.
When even the japs preferred the Saturn of all things to the N64, you knew Nintendo fucked up massively.
>So why ignore the fact that Nintendo currently is less censorious than Sony?
Because the pendulum swings do not suddenly erase decades of history.
No it doesn't, you're made to care, because you'll buy a product to spite the rival company much easier than you'll buy to support the one you like.
I work in marketing, like I said, these past decade has been the golden age for us, you don't realize the amount of manipulation tools that are used nowadays in every single media, they're tailored over years to inspire a set of emotions that will lead into sales, even tho those emotions might not look supportive in the first place.
I'd explain in further detail but you seem retarded, so I will if you ask politely in your next post.
God I love early 90's advertisement, especially Sega's, they were completely fucking unhinged.
So you ignore the present? You don't kick your dog when it learns to piss outside.
Good moves are good, not censoring is good. No company has a stellar history in regards to censorship, but moves in the correct direction should be praised. Same as regression should be treated as such
Anyone submitting for the next Photoshop Phriday?
How old were you in the 90's? I don't want to be a dick about it, but you seem to remember them and the early 00's much differently than I do. I was in high school by 96.
The early 90's was just a growth of the consumer culture fostered by the late 80's. Clothing was made to be bombastic and overpriced, melodramas shaped the teen landscape into a mediocre version of tropes established by The Breakfast Club.
Not everything was readily regulated, things were more "free" as the economy had just went through an oil-related recession and the Gulf War that basically won Clinton his presidency. As a result, unemployment was rising and service jobs paid significantly less than they should've. College tuition was beginning to bloat up and consume people with debt for the first time, something that wasn't a common phenomenon in previous eras, and despite this, every academic and baby boomer pushed that college was the only option, largely because they didn't see the world through the lens that tweens and teens did.
The rise and sudden emergence of a technological boom was what saved the global economy, but as stated before, it was completely unknown and relatively unregulated by the public and the government itself, leading to what was effectively, nothing but "deep web" as the norm. People were also a lot more polite online in general. It wasn't until America Online's wide spread use around '96-97 for the common person lead to more ubiquitous use and online games started popping up.
The 90's were also marked by a huge boost in Hollywood appeal. A-list actors made and broke films, and huge-budget films would be bank rolled based on star power alone. Waterworld is a good example of this. In addition, with movies like Independence Day a Jurassic Park blew up across schools simply because of how awesome they looked. The marketing behind them was relatively tame compared to these days.
This has to be an advert from viz. Actually, I know it must be since its the same format as the others but its just not a cartoon.
>monkey hero
I remember borrowing that game from my friend back in the day and not thinking much of it. What's stopping you from playing it now? I heard it's a really rare game but emulation always exists

Thats the joke

This clown Bill Clinton has to be the worst president ever. It can't get any worse than this.
You had to be there, that's something your generation will never come close to having and that's good
>Good moves are good
Sure, outside of being weaponized for console wars, that is.
>not censoring is good
Except that Nintendo still censors, to be fair, everyone does, Sony also censored stuff long before the recent puritan craze, as much as many people won't admit it.
Again, it's pendulum swings, nothing more than that, any console and major distribution platform censors stuff to various degrees, now it's Sony's turn to be the "bad guy", eventually they'll stop and somebody else will take the mantle, before Sony it was Nintendo for instance, except nobody was ever this outraged, especially considering the much longer history Nintendo had with censorship too.
As long as you people will keep on playing by the pendulum rule nothing will ever change, the problem isn't the company, it never was, they only go where the money is or where they think it is, the fault lies in people and governments.
And I don't say this to be a bootlicker, it's just how multimillion companies work, they don't care about you or what's ethically and morally right, they never will, it's all PR talk, one day they take off censorship to boost sales, the next they adopt draconian measures to not lose their lead and money, it's always like this, whether it's sony, nintendo or steam.

I was born in '85. My post was really about the mid 90s rather than the early 90s. A few things you've listed are pretty USA-centric if I'm to be honest. But you are mostly right.
The point I wanted to make though was that due to the radical introduction of new tech in the first half of the 90s (mainstreaming computers, CGI in films and 3D in games, the internet in general, etc) it took a few years for these technologies to become "exploited" where soulful experimentation got winded down in favour of soulless milking. Of course this all happened in different industries at different times. I don't think it hit the video game industry in the 90s but more toward the middle of the 00s.
The Spice Girls are a good example of it. Much of their music heralded the introduction of a new generation of synthesizers which had less of a Eurodance '80s style vibe to it and something approaching the modern sound. This technology had been around for a few years (Kraftwerk were experimenting with it already in 1991) but a few years were required for refined use. After that music studios managed to churn out manufactured sweet pop hits for the ear which is what created that bubblegum pop / boy band / girl band / teen pop craze in the late 90s / early 00s which made so much money but generated so little of worth.

Some years later in the early-mid 2000's I replayed it and it was kinda meh. I never touched it after that because i expected it to disappoint. Maybe ill emulate it one day. But there are other more higher profile games that i want to finish first
JRPGs are the worst genre. Yamuachi was right. Players of RPGs ought to remain in their dark rooms and be ostracized from society.
As a non-American, the major difference between 1999 and the first few post-9/11 years is the rise of skater culture and Avril Lavigne. Most of the technology and tv shows were a continuation of each other, with things like the xbox being an exception
Yamauchi was a fucking murderer and a piece of shit.
Absolutely based.
12-14 is prime.
Hey guys, look what I got!
Haha, look at all the replies from poor people that never got to play both at launch. Just to make sure you plebs understand, you did not experience the n64 if you played it through emulator.
Goo goo gaga
Look at this badass char. i found, it would be a shame if the devs. of his game would be too incompetent to do anything else with it.
Realistically, none of the 90s were good. The only cultural significance it had was the golden age of hiphop, which no white person cares about or will care about in the future.
Boy I sure am glad to have a living father! I sure hope nothing bad happens to him right before Christmas! That would suck.

The mid-to-late 90's saw the escalation of online technology, destroying the previously polite society, which was more akin to today's ham-radio culture, and turning into a cloud of ignorant stay-at-home moms, obnoxious little kids, and general retards.
Since T.V. wasn't as politically correct as it is now (the very term had a slightly different meaning and use than it does today,) characters would use genuinely insulting words like "retard", "transvestite", etc. Comedy was also generally more uncensored, and if people were offended, they simply didn't watch it. There was no Twitter and Facebook to flee to and browbeat people into starting a culture war like there is today. Things that were disliked were disliked due to common dislike, not because of perceived offense. Companies weren't readily bullied by outrage, they simply bowed to what the public bought and what they didn't buy. The term "Politically Correct" in the early to late '90s was reserved for technology and other things that were made for specific people in mind, such as a street light that buzzed when people could cross, or ramps for the handicapped. Race commonly had nothing to do with it.
All-in-all I'd say the culture of the 90's was that of uncertainty, especially for teens. College was required, but now exceedingly expensive. Jobs were plenty, but no longer paid well enough to live on like they did in the 80's. Cars were cheaper, but gas was comparatively more expensive than it had been in previous eras. To top it all off was the looming threat of Y2K, which was a genuine public concern.
If I were to pick films that definitively captured the feeling of various 90's culture they would be; L.A. Confidential, Scream, Thelma & Louise, Clerks, The Big Lebowski, Strange Days, The Bodyguard, and The Faculty.
I'm from the US/Mexico, so you're right. I can't really comment on stuff from other places in the world. I do agree with your general sentiments though.

It was a lot more laid back. No meta bullshit, no memes, no internet jadedness, God-tier anime, cartoons, and vidya. You didn't have to worry about phone calls or whatsapp messages for fear of someone being in need or something. Markets were way healthier so you'd probably have a higher salary without a need for a degree. There was also this new horizon of possibilities wrt tech and internet. Nowadays we are jaded and are sceptical towards any tech improvement. For instance machine learning is a laughable buzzword (nowadays). Gaming with friends meant that they'd come over and play on the couch. No discord or steam bullshit.
I'd wager it's not nostalgia. Life without the overbearing technology and internet was a lot simpler and straight to the point. You go to work for work. You go to the toilet to shit. You go chill outside to chill. With the internet, everything gets blurred. For instance, you go to the toilet and take a shit while on the phone, (re-)reading emails from work. Or 'chilling' outside with friends, yet you check your phone every few minutes out of habit. Why are you on the internet while outside? We didn't do that back in the day.
AND OMG BACK IN THE DAY YOU'D GET BORED AND YOU'D HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. THERE WERE NO FUCKING QUICK ARTIFICIAL DOPAMINE SHOT THROUGH SOME STUPID APP ON YOUR PHONE THE MOMENT YOU'D GET BORED.

I remember making fun of my schoolmate because he had a Sega and the controllers had 3 buttons.

Fucking zoomers. I bet they didn't even played the og MGS and Silent Hill back in the 90's nor watch the Xmen animated series.
sour grapes.
I seriously hope you watched Thundercats lad
The Matrix kicked off the 2000's
>comfy fun games with lewd females.
There's more VR perv games, visual novels, and dating sims than ever before. The only thing I've seen a marked reduction in, is video game advertising that sexualizes women more than they are in the game. Pic related. She never looked like this in the game.
Not only did I watched the Thundercats, I watched the Silverhawks.
>Xmen animated series.
That's completely irrelevant to people born in the 90s, since it ran from 1992 to 1997, before "90s baby" culture began in 1998
It's too similar to Dark City to have kicked off the 2000s
>I watched the Silverhawks
First class lad!

Why aren't you playing this underrated masterpiece?
>you did not experience the n64 if you played it through emulator.
It was crazy to play the 5 or so decent games for the n64 on ultraHLE at 4x the resolution and actual smooth frame rates back in 99. I remember playing waverace at a kiosk, noting how blurry and choppy it was on the real hardware vs the emulator. What an amazing price of software.
98-99 zoomers deserve death
>3dfags think their games will ever look as good as this
>mfw PCfags will never EVER get MGS
UltraHLE was shit. N64 emulation is bad now, but UltraHLE was that with 20 years less fixes. Games were utterly broken. Textures didn't load on half of objects. Almost all 'special effects' like even basic lighting were broken.
It had no purpose other than "look mah, I can boot an N64 game on my Voodoo!"
come home white man.
What was with the 80s-90s and the fascination of dinosaurs?
>not prepping for it
Go back to the future zoomers
I miss 90's vidya covers.
The franchise where he came from had so much potential, but the company pretty much did nothing to prevent it from being unknown pretty much killed it, but soon they will fall since they today they are even unable to handle their biggest series...
nintentards seething over emulation, shilling a corporation for free - what else is new?
That’s fucking 90s dude
Don’t worry old man. They’re time will come.
Because dinosaurs were fucking awesome.
80s fuck
Not to worry, they were already born dead inside. Universe ran out of souls in 96.
*beats your high score*
whoops
The Velociraptor happened. Also, jizzing over genetic manipulation.
You can make up the all the bullshit cope you want but UltraHLE was amazing for everyone who didn't want to pay the Nintendo tax for the handful of games that were worth playing. Im glad I got to play games like Waverace64 better than the actual hardware ~2 years (NA) after release. It was unheard of for emulators back then.
cringe and sneed
Show is Little Witch Academy or something like that
Jurassic Park ya goof.
Also, lots of paleontological discoveries.
>Waverace64 better than the actual hardware
Except the special effects on the waves, the thing that looked the coolest about them, didn't work. All you got was blandly shaded water.
goo goo ga ga
I suppose this was it, huh
That was what really kickstarted it, but even in the 80s there were films like Land Before Time.
Good moves aren't good when they're aren't done honestly and just with profit in mind. Basically crocodile tears
>What was with the 80s-90s and the fascination of dinosaurs?
I think it was because many cartoons in the 80s were accused of being mindless entertainment. By pushing dinosaurs companies could have big scary monsters while also having a thin veneer of educating kids (these monsters were actually real!)
I wonder if these shitposters from 20 years ago are still shitposting today?
and then a good company will take and revive that series, also allowing it to be finally known...
*shits in diaper*

Bro, do you still remember?
>This guy's console is going nowhere, fast.
This statement could only be correct if it was Kaz Hirai talking about the Sega Dreamcast. The PSX was dominating the entire console market in 1999. The PS2 launched in 2000 and is still the best selling console of all time.
I mean have done that but not anymore I just look up gameplay or reviews/player feedback before I buy
>poor value
>top of the line

Just don't buy that shit. Problem solved.
Yes this definitely improved it, thank you very much.
Looks ugly.
please tell me the name of this game, been looking forever

It's possible to have top of the line which is poor value. "The best" always comes at a price premium. A TNT2 or Voodoo 3 would have been just as good as the GeForce 256 for UT.
Nothing supported T&L yet.

I spent 1999 being nostalgic for a better year, like 1991. God the late 90s were shit.

Nsync sounded soulless back then and it sounds soulless now
What was going on in Kansas, 2014?

o i am laffin
Nsync sucks, but they at least had soul.
I'd take the worst of the late 90s (Britney, Backstreet Boys, Nsync) over the average of today (Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish) any day of the week.
Backstreet Boys have some good songs
Your thinking of the 80s Muslims had shit themselves and lost any respsct or tolerance by 95. Especially in New York
1999 was the best time for electronic music like Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Moby, Aphextwin, While most people were on back street boys and Britney Spears I was listening to this youtube.com
Based zoomerfiter babypost
Threads like these make me want to pull out my n64 and play it again.
I'm not into boy bands, as I am not a teenage girl. But I'd still rather listen to I Want It That Way over garbage like Wrecking Ball.
Yet more proof that Zoomer is a mentality.
There's plenty of good music every year. But as far as the most popular and commercial stuff goes, it's really not. You couldn't get away from all that shit in 1999. And no, none of those bands had a soul. They were 100% focus group tested garbage.
I got a 6 years of this when I was really young, but the majority of my childhood was watching it die slowly throughout the early and mid 2000s
>Chemical Brothers, Prodigy
Those artists were more relevant to 1997 (the last respectable year of the 90s)
Give me your lunch money
People hated Britney and the others, and rightfully so, but no one had any idea just how bad things would get.
Now, the shitty boy bands of the late 90s seem like Mozart in comparison to what we have now.
>pretendo 64
This is not even up for debate. There's actually a study made that shows how the variance in the melodies of the top songs stagnated after early 2000s
Chris Hansen didn't cause this. Even if kids did go outside to play, which they wouldn't, they wouldn't want to play with water because they'd get their cellphone wet.
To be fair I actually prefer modern pop music over that awful period in the mid 00s where every single top charting pop song had a cringy rap segment.
A lot of Prodigy tracks were used in movies going forward into the 2000s. They even had a track from 2015 that was used in a few movie trailers, so there relevancy moved beyond the late 90s at least a little bit. Not anymore though, still bummed about Keith Flint's death.
>You couldn't get away from it
That's the difference. Even my grandma knew who nsync was in 1999. She doesn't have a clue what teens listen to now because you can avoid it these days.
>it's really not
It really was. It was schlock but it was not soulless.

All I feel right now is disgust. Is that what I was supposed to feel?
I agree, music from 2004 to 2007 as a whole was absolute trash

You aight darkie
You really can't. At bus stops you hear assholes listening to it. On public transportation the driver plays it on the radio. In malls and supermarkets you hear it.
Everyone agreed that mainstream music got BETTER in the mid 2000s. Back in 2009 I remember it was really taboo to say you enjoyed anything from 1999/2000, besides the video games.
If you were a teen in 1999 and you're defending the backstreet boys, you should consider suicide.
>public transportation
I still hear 80s music in the grocery store half the time and I don't think I've ever heard something made in the last 10 years.
Arghh take me back.

Watch Go (1999)
Captures the feeling of the time without meaning to.
I was 13 in 1999 but i guess i must have grown out of it because i don't look back at the Backstreet Boys as nothing but fun camp. Even back then i did not listen to it but i recognized it as cheesy instead of insulting to my ears and being. I had two friends that ironically sang their songs during class and then laughed their asses off like retards to annoy the teachers. How can i look back at that with anything but nostalgia? You sound like a teenager right now, are you sure you're not a zoomer LARPing?
What’s puberty?
I used to own both consoles, but had no money to buy original games because in Brazil they are overly expensive. So I had to rent the N64 games and buy PS1 pirated, I did eventually sold them all to pay for my college to some reseller that sold me a PS2 some time later. He also sold me pirated games for PS2. The pic is from the magazine that I bought at the time before being able to check games reviews online

You didn't even get your first console until around 1995. The first Nintendo console was released sometime around 1985 or so. This is why your nostalgia threads are always about 1998 or 1999. You're new blood lad.
I live in South America and had the same shit happening back then, it was even better at 1994 when we had no internet.
Which was your first then?

I played this game at the mall. Any old fag here remember playing TC2?
UGA CHAKA UGA UGA
I liked both systems. 64 had smash and goemon. Psx had fft and re2
Remember in The Matrix when Morpheus describes 1999 as the peak of civilization? It honestly was. The late 90s were such a carefree time, not just if you were a kid. It really felt like society had moved past all the "bad shit" and we were heading into a better age. The internet wasn't something constantly surrounding you and making you angry half the time, it was a dumb little thing you logged onto for a few hours every evening if you were a nerd. Kids actually played outside still, just a little bit. But playing video games with your friends was still much more comfy.
Fuck 9/11. The War on Terror is where the paranoid hyper-reality we live in today first started settling in. Shit like Vince Foster or Waco or Columbine happening nowadays, nobody would fucking care because that's just everyday life now. We're heading into a new dark age, man.
>Ape Escape
checks out
Not a single action/adventure game on PS1 legitimately compares to Ocarina of Time. Super Mario 64 btfos Croc, Spyro, and Crash in its sleep.
Conversely, the only really good RPG on N64 is Paper Mario. The PS1 and N64 were suited for different kinds of games, so which one is better depends on what types of games you like.

This also applies for most of the 2000s. Things really started deteriorating once we started approaching the tail end of the 2000s decade
last year i was going through old stuff from my room and between some old ass documents i found mint condition re3/tomb raider poster from 1999

Things were simpler. Vidya was great and exciting. Cartoons were great and actually funny. Tv was good too especially at night. Anime was god tier. my sister would buy these huge shonen jump mags. Toonami came out. Pokiemon was new hugely successful. The internet was fun. Newgrounds.com was the shit. Social media was actually fun. Most kids had a game boy pocket or color. Pokiemon fucking yellow. Things were cheaper too.
