Yo guys i got starsector from sseths code.
What are some advice and tips you would give me to start the game?

avoid death

I've got a comfortable handle on vanilla, what mods would you guys recommend for a sort of vanilla expansion?

D mods are a scavengers friend

Underworld to give pirates a better arsenal of ships and spice them up, optional to disable the Cabal (purple tri-jew illuminati) or not in config.

is it just me or are moras the worst carrier? yes, even worse than pirate buffalos.
they keep charging forwards suicidally then die. they die way more than any of the others. these are npc controlled no officers.

slow down before mods banish us to /vg/ again

>when you slap F and spin your dakka gunboat

buy fuel

>when you find a derelict ship with remnant fighters, blueprints out the ass, a corrupted nanoforge and a synchrotron
>and 4 tachyon lasers

>tfw you go on an exploration trip and you come back with more supplies than the ones you left with

I have been in love with Onslaught-chan since I bought one on whim.

Then I tried it against a Paragon in simulation for no particular reason.

I literally couldn't get through the shields on it before I died.

How do I equip Onslaught to be not-shit, or failing that, how do I get Paragon?

I found a paragon blueprint in a research station orbiting a black hole. I can't make him yet :(

Are Enforcers worth using?
The firepower on those things compared to something like a Hammerhead is insane, but holy fuck that speed.

If your definition of a ship that isn't shit is whether or not it can solo a Paragon, then give up now.

why yes I just found a free legion

Attached: 20190811145130.png (1071x673, 237K)

how long does it take for a colony to become profitable? cause right now its a fucking moneysink ive blown a million on thats costing me 70k a month i assume once stuff gets built it will get better but damn.

The Paragon is the single most over powered ship fielded in the Sector. Sorry, but practically nothing short of another Paragon or 4 Onslaughts can kill it. Girl just can't hit hard enough.

Attached: HegemonyABest.jpg (2304x2814, 2.2M)

You just gotta equip more anti shield weapons so it has to choose between not eating thermal cannons to the face or being able to shoot at you when you burn drive right up to it. You also need to consider that there's more to consider than just a 1v1 comparison. The way I usually play most of my capitals unless they have a particular penchant for something is being a big anchor for the rest of my fleet to fight around, able to take lots of fire without worrying too much to give other ships the freedom to move or fire themselves or if I'm not being focused I can turn on the big guns and push in to quickly eliminate smaller ships and leave their capitals without support.

Managing weapon groups in battle and learning when to switch them on and off auto fire is important for getting the most out of your loadouts. I usually keep one group for PD, one for anti armor, one for anti shield, and two free groups for more situational weapons or ones that I need to manage personally.

>slap like 20 assault guns of various sizes and a bunch of kinetic bombers on a Legion
>send them after enemy battleship
>burn in the second their shields get overloaded and tear them open
Legion-chan a fun

How do you make a colony grow?
Between the Hegemony being at war with everyone and the infinite pirates, I can't get it to have positive growth.

Very worth it, and relatively easy to get weapons for it. Easily one if the better destroyers.

hey hey people

Do you guys play vanilla or usually use some mods?

Attached: 1458323168424.jpg (960x819, 96K)

Your filthy, back-exposed slut could never hope to beat Paragon-chan

Attached: ParagonShipIcon.png (240x300, 113K)

We NEED a waifu version of paragon, so many other ships have at least one.

Attached: 1564855085873m.jpg (497x1024, 75K)

I found one of these when I just started playing, had no idea what to do with it so just scrapped it
Did I fug up?

Attached: 1484368940215.gif (268x375, 1.99M)

Paragon is a slut with a massive gaping hole ready to please anyone that comes by.

She's a pure chaste maiden whose shield is literally impenetrable.

You fucking idiot. You only get 4 XIV variants out there.

Attached: 1522469863858.gif (150x150, 144K)

As far as capitals go it's not the best, kind of a middle ground between an Onslaught and an Astral. If you really want one you can join up with hegemony later and buy them, or salvage them when Persean and Luddic expeditions throw them at your colony stations

Maybe a little but really only if it was a fourteenth battlegroup version that has slightly improved stats and even those aren't the end all be all. Much too expensive to be using early game most likely so it'd just be sitting in storage somewhere for a few cycles.

>Legion
>better than Astral

Use your brain a little bit, please. It's a mix between those two but not specialized in either role and of course isn't as good at either one.

In any case, Legion is honestly a bad ship.
Sure it's a first battleship and it's cool, but it tries to do everything and as such sucks at everything

hmm, hegemony came from nowhere to take my cores, how am I suppose to bribe them to make them leave me electronic waifus alone?

This game would be awesome if enemy fleets didn't scale with yours. It's bullshit when you work hard to finally roll around with multiple capitals but then all of a sudden all of the remnants and pirates are comprised of armadas of death, too.

you have to do it soon after you first get the warning, set orders from the intel screen and either pay them off or tell your colony to resist them which will make them mad

Alright so what I'm thinking for this thing. 4 tachyon lances built-in, 8 fighter wings, flicker, ballistic/energy hybrid hardpoints. Don't feel the need for missles with the two micro missile arrays. Fighter storage, and missile microforge.

Attached: 1550832591567.png (412x660, 357K)

they don't bro. The only thing that scales is bounty size based off amount of bounties completed.

But pirates only scale if you give them blueprints bro. And Remnants are loaded on initial generation, they don't scale.

Ok OP here thought this thread would die with zero replies just reading all ur stuff now

I could have sworn there was some sort of scaling of fleets. I've played this game for years and without fail--every time my fleet is pack to the brim with uber ships, everyone else seems to be, also. I think Alex said that fleet size scales with the passage of game time or some shit.

so I raided the Ludds a few times and all their planets decivilized a year later, does their faction ever disappear or are they just gonna stick around forever with no planets?

Got three alpha cores from their ruins, hypocritical fucks.

Attached: screenshot023.png (1920x1080, 2.03M)

>finally have the starting funds to field a mora after bounty hunting for a while
>burn level 8
>all my ships are at 9
fug

If you keep hitting them and keep them destabilized eventually the colony breaks down. In the base game factions don't recolonize or come back after you wipe all their planets.

yo
anyone got experience with using wanzers from the diable mod? are they any good?

Anyone else a fan of the Anarakis mod?

What I'm saying is all four of their worlds have already decivilized, they have no more planets. Will their faction disappear or will they always still be around?

l-lads

So is it like X2 but in 2d, or more like mountain blade but in space?

>year 217
>still no Tachyon Lance
Tempted to wage war just for some.

Don't even bother to 1v1 a Paragon if you don't have any Gauss Cannons equipped.

I hope they chill out with those pirate bases next update. Cant do anything because another one spawns like 20 days after I kill one. Lord have mercy on you if you decide to make colonies far away from each other.

spacestuffs, nebula or something
do you think they are something specific?

Go check out that distress call senpai. What could go wrong?

I've been wondering why the background looks so... organic

Mountain Blade but much more tactical, like a total war game with actually good combat AI

>actually good combat AI
I fucking wish

Attached: Base Profile Screenshot 2019.08.08 - 02.18.01.16.png (1920x1080, 1013K)

The scaling of bounties is really fucked up
>oh you beat 3 bounties that had 2 destroyers? well now EVERY FUCKING BOUNTY WILL BE CONSISTED OF 400 BATTLECRUISERS PLUS AN UNCOUNTABLE AMOUNT OF FIGHTERS

>Conquest
Are you stupid?

help me find these fucking pirates please

Attached: where are these fuckers.jpg (1606x1052, 288K)

I have searched every inch within the red circle and fucking nothing

Attached: where are these fuckers2.jpg (1606x1052, 259K)

that's what happens when you don't give them orders to keep your destroyers from chasing kites and shrikes they'll never be able to catch

Does someone know how I can set starsector to start on my 1080 Monitor instead of the 4K one? Or has someone found a decent 4K mod?

go to your bar and talk to the spacer, the pirate base location should be given to you. The pirates are not in the system with your colony.

You're in the system they're targeting, dummy
The base is on the Marathon Star System, according to the description

Wew

Read the description of pirate activity report, and then look at the system you're in.

Attached: screenshot000.png (1920x1080, 1.12M)

I did, and it says the location is inside my system. That's where show on map and the map icon are.

oh. Okay, thanks. Is there a search function to find that system?

Thanks, I guess I'm pretty stupid, maybe being up at 2am doesn't help. Spent like 10 minutes flying around my dumb system looking for them.

You're trying too hard to direct them. You need to give minor orders like punish this guy that overextended or escort these ships that have a weakness. Largely just let the AI do it's own thing using escort commands to keep groups of ships working together

Attached: question.png (334x338, 57K)

Reading comprehension, nigger. They are raiding the Gamm Ul Quoma system.

They are coming from the marathon system.

Nah you're not too stupid. The tutorial basically makes you expect pirates to create a station in the same system.

What's a fleet balance generally look like? Like how many of each type of ship should end up deployed in a battle
I'm having trouble understanding just what types of ships I should invest into the most in my fleet

Attached: EBcDY9oXYAEYXqC.jpg (2000x1123, 654K)

I think I'm a bit stupid, just didn't read it right. I got too used to clicking "show on map" and going there. Found it, engaged it, blew it up. Fucking pirates.

What in gods name is that? diable avionics?

>Conquest is bad
Maybe you are

That defend order has been there since the beginning. I've played this game long enough to know that that combat AI in this game isn't great.

That's the thing, after a while of doing the same shit repeatedly there's no reason you'd expect anything else. I wandered around my system for a while thinking they'd set up like in the tutorial. Ended up reading the description out of frustration and was like o

Before I go full retard, is this a big problem or can I ignore it for now? Their base "supporting" this stuff is ages away.

Attached: one more quick question please.jpg (1606x1052, 589K)

It's made from Diable but it's a separate mod of a mod.

Its embarrassing, but I feel a bit better now, thanks. I hate how these pirates can make a base within a month. Like, come on. Stop making bases.

can someone answer me fuck

I've been ignoring it for quite some time because I'm weak. I just set up stability modifying stuff and let them ludd

Roger. The stability is annoying but I can deal I guess

They can destroy your stations on very rare occasions so watch out. Otherwise don't sweat it.

diable fighters are really good

fuck.

Attached: literally seconds later.jpg (1606x1052, 347K)

Diable as a whole is underwhelming. There's your answer faggot.

grease those palms boy

I feel like they are solid. Not overpowered which is good.

Go take a shuttle to your bar and check if there's a pather there that would tell you where the base is.

If anything it should just give you some free ships. Set up your fleet with carriers and fast cruiser that can punish ships that are out of position. Defending your space station is crazy easy, 'kitey' cruisers basically need no direction on their own to excel at deleting the shit combat freighters pirates use to siege.

Gotta finish this mission and get back to my lands

So do i need to bring more supplies/food/resources with me than is listed when making a colony? I'm hesitant to found one cause I can only fit so much cargo.

I suppose. Didn't play with them much, I rarely play with faction mods unless they fit well into the lore. And there's only like 2 that does that so.

I'll try, thanks.

huh? you dont have to be at your base to bribe them, just click that shiny avert button there

I'm not bribing them, fuck that. That's too expensive. I mean I gotta go back to fight them off

You're also gonna want to have enough supplies for the trip there and the trip back. Few things hurt more than building a colony and realizing you don't have enough supplies to make it back to civilization.

Falcons are my go-to. I've got a level 20 extremely agressive waifu captain piloting one with extremely high dps short range weapons. Then I order a couple support frigates and another ai falcon with long range weapons to escort her and she just tears shit up.

>try Diable mod
>think it's going to be like Macross
>each missile hits like cotton candy and their carriers suck compared to Mikoyan

Attached: 1564860424106.jpg (987x700, 148K)

I really like the falcons too. They're pretty fun

>tfw you're so retarded you get chumped in the second pre-built Mission against the Luddites

Attached: 1451424653038.gif (438x750, 598K)

Founding a colony is really expensive in terms of credits and raw material. I wouldn't suggest starting until you have a lot of money you can sit on and have some of the supporting skills for governing. I waited until I maxed all the management skills besides the ones for max colonies and had ~1.5 mil on me and it still took some time for it to make a decent profit.

yeah, i tried it out and i'm honestly regretting it like crazy
the ships look amazing but they are complete and utter garbage

might have to start again and cheat me some new ships to not feel like i wasted my fucking time playing this

The overwhelming majority of ships and weapons are armor focused in SS, Paragon is purely shields, and the best shields you'll ever face.

You have to get some special EMP/shield breaking weapons if you want to crack it but it isnt hard.

Yeah i was kinda disappointed with their actual ships as well. Now running some wanzers out of a legion can be pretty fun.

Wanzers are generally good, but most of them are shieldless and get fucked by anything with EMP damage.
Zephyr Beamers are the absolute best, with Valiants and Ravens as seconds and Warlust make decent for a decent support with their snipers.

Is Commerce for colony worth it? Doesn't seem too useful to waste an industry slot for a shop where you have to pay tariffs, and it doesn't seem like it's generating profits either which I thought it would

Thanks user.

Alex needs to cut it out with this "stations are multi-targetable" bullshit, half of the time you don't know what the fuck you're shooting at, or if you targeted the right part of the station, missiles get confused, and the AI literally does not understand the concept of focusing fire.

And don't even get me started on the retarded Sunder-classes that think they can facetank 5 Autopulse Lasers at once.

No, Commerce sucks ass. Its only use is to sell your garbage if you're too lazy to leave your colony. If you need supplies just take from your colony stockpiles.

Diable are expensive, I suspect you were using the smaller vessels which dont do well on their own. The Maelstorm, Daze and Haze are strong as fuck.

There ARE comps that can 1v1 a Paragon with an Onslaught. But it's a dicey thing.

Its really not unless you have absolutely nothing else good to build on the planet. For instance I colonized one shitty planet in my main system to jam another military base on it to defend the other planets there that are more valuable so I could probably fit one on just to have somewhere to sell things when I visit, but this particular system is smack dab in the sector center so thats not really an issue. Even then it would be more worthwhile to just make some of the buildings that can make money regardless of what resources are available on the planet like heavy industry or fuel production.

Without going into spoilers, is there actually an endgame to this (or at least Mount and Blade style painting the map red)? The core loop seems fun, but I can't do sandboxes with no goal.

He dialed it down a bit in the latest version, and in the next one he's planning for quality over quantity.

A shame, I rather liked talking down pirate spam fleets in late game. Even a full thirty-cap stack has difficulty taking them down if you don't spam capitals.

>playing for hours straight
>suddenly the power goes out for a few minutes
>power comes back
>load up game
>thats strange, this is an old save
>look at saves
>main one is missing
Oh come the fuck on

link for mod?

Hyperspace is a lot funkier than you might think. Alex has hinted at some interesting stuff for the next update, which doesn't seem to be more [REDACTED] stuff...

The game isnt done yet, the endgame hasnt been implemented. It has the ability to paint the map though.

>"X" mod is weak compared to DME.
No shit Sherlock

There's nothing set in stone. There's probably an optimum deployment cost-efficient option but nothing is stopping you from spamming thirty frigates against capital fleets.

Well, you won't have any staying power without tankers and a freighter or two, but that's to be expected.

I suggest massed carriers with bombers for fighting stations.

Also sunder is trash.

you don't have a UPS?

There really isn't much of an endgame yet besides exploring every unexplored system and getting the money to build your own little pocket empire for free money but the biggest mod for the game adds more stuff like conquering planets and AI factions forming alliances so you can ape some 4x features and have territory shifts over time.

Did the devs say they were planning on implementing a victory condition in the future?

If that's the case, I'll probably just wait for the full game to come out. It looks to me like they'll be ready for official release in the next year or two.

How is the Malestrom good? It does not punch through, it doesn't have omni-shields which makes the very idea of a boardside battleship stupid, the little missiles are fine and all but again, don't punch through, and all the other missile racks are small, it's also too big and too fragile.
1v1 it's great but if you get swarmed it's over.

>turning a diable ship into a ballistic boat
Keep it missiles and carrier, give it some fighters buffs or a huge number of wings.

I dont live in venezuela, so no.

>mfw I realize I can check price data just by pressing F1
I've been visiting each market manually.

Attached: 1545777347943.jpg (188x282, 21K)

Huh?

wait what
thats a thing?

Not on my computer no, its a super rare occurrence for the power to go out and even if it does I cant remember the last game which was affected by the game suddenly dying.

The save file is actually 100% corrupted, which I have not seen in vidya for ages.

Hover over the commodity in question and press F1.

How did you even make profits playing like that

I also used Sseth's cd-key, do i have the game forever or is this some kind of trial? Im interested in the game but can't really play it until about 2 weeks from now.

Attached: 1420395432500.gif (663x603, 2.13M)

they're parallel universes

You can play it forever, they might disable the CD key in an update though

In the beginning I stayed in my starting system as to not waste fuel
Then I jotted down which commodities were profitable on which markets
It took a while before I left the first system

Did that guy really install his own cd-key publically? Is he an idiot?

Lucky. I live a bit in the boonies so I tend to have the power go out a few times a year.

god damn

Not him but I usually offloaded all the shit I got from exploring and salvaging or raiding in that abandoned mining base in Corvus and when I felt like taking a break from doing other stuff I'd just go there, grab my big freighters out of storage, check prices, load up, and sell it off where its most profitable while comparing any excesses in the systems I visit to base prices and get more trade goods that way. Had a period of time where the mining economy got fucked and there were several planets selling ore for 1 credit per unit so I just nabbed some and kept it in storage until a juicy shortage popped up somewhere or I just wanted some money.

He gave out his CD key in desperation to get people to actually play the game.

Considering the amount of sales they got just off his video and the dev personally thanking him for it, I would assume shit's safe.

You must be using all the wrong weapons because I can solo entire fleets with it. Focus the small slots on revolvers and Diable PD, both are exceptional, there are double hardpoints so you can take one of each for every direction, anything less than a cruiser will melt under them when they get in range. Take the increased ballistic range for a skill and the mod. Use the largest ballistic weapons with the lowest flux you can use on the other slots. Two torps can be put on the front for a instant kill against anything when you overload it.

Its also not a broadside ship, you haven't gotten any of the range increase mods or abilities so you cant hit anything, and the missiles are not for punching through, a wave of them confuses PD allowing your fighters to attack, then you can pull them back when its over. You can jump head first into the enemy, unload a insane amount of DPS, then jump back and vent without taking any damage.

Like I said Diable are expensive, and require more thought to use than throwing a Onslaught at the enemy.

>waah he spent 15 dollars
gee what a tragedy, he could never ever recoup that loss

He got them so many sales people crashed the payment portal and the devs thanked him for it. I think hes fine.

you are a fucking dumbass

Fuck slow ships. Give me a good group of ships that compliment each other and start out at 90 base speed at the very least.

>scavenging a derelict near the edge of the sector
>cache of fucking lobsters in the long dead hulk

>Notice a fringe world has just been invaded by the Persean League
>Later in some random market
>Press F1
>Said fringe world is at the top of the listing for every single commodity
>Turns out the Persean Muhreens didn't think about bringing food or anything else with them, and their asses are flapping in the wind
>Fill my cargo with transplutonics and luxury goods
>Fly them to newly conquered colony
>200% profit
I thought that 4X thing was just a meme, but it's actually really good.

Whenever I explore a wrecked small ship, like a Nebula or a Hound, I have the option to add it to my fleet, but whenever I see something like a cruiser, my only option is to break it into salvage. Do I need a specific amount of crew/supplies/machinery for it to work? Drives me a bit crazy, there were so many good wrecks around and I couldn't get any.

Are adminstrators and agents worth it? I've played the game a lot but never bothered with them

>yfw Remnant raid targets your star system

Attached: 1484786507391.png (359x468, 111K)

What's it going to do? Rot in the vacuum of space?

So is always better to fit ships with more DAKKA than PEW PEW LASERS?

It's more or less random. You have a skill in the industry tree that lets you recover ships more often. Other than that, I'd suggest buying some extra heavy machinery, maybe even a salvage ship to increase your chance.s

it entirely is down to your playstyle

people say the paragon is OP with its high-energy focus but you can match it with ballistics entirely

PEW PEW suck ass with a few notable exceptions, like the anti matter blaster.

Dassault is overpowered as fuck

After 4 colonies you start getting stability penalties if you personally manage them, so after 5 or 6 you'll want admins if you want to keep expanding your operations.

As for agents I assume you mean the Nexrelin mod? Those guys save you time by completing busywork like hunting down Pather bases for you. Raising relations to quickly secure an alliance is nice too because then you can access your ally's military market without a commission.

If I take over voltun can I be the lobster lord? or does it vanish with the s*ndrians?

It's got two fucking Miro missile arrays. Also maybe bump fighter wings to 10?
Maybe make the the large central hardpoints missile only.

I assume I still can't buy weapons and ships without commission

>Buying ALL the lobsters
>Check planetside
>Random trader tells me he has another 600 lobsters for cheap
>Buy another 600 lobsters
>Even more crustacean profit

Attached: 34435435.png (340x232, 53K)

You still keep the lobster production. It's tied to the planet's modifiers.

If you invite a faction to an alliance successfully they treat you the same as if you had their commission. They'll sell you anything.

you'll get every blueprint in the game if you explore properly

Destroy the pirate bases and inject money into incentives. Make sure accessibility is high.

>If I take over voltun can I be the lobster lord?
Yes.

Is this a mod that enables them to create fringe worlds? Or am I retarded? pls respond that sounds like fun

DAKKA is better overall because its cheaper and easier to run.

PEW can be good, but its hard to find the right ship and weapons, and the flux is always a problem.

I don't really understand how that would be a shame when you spend so much time grinding money in order to command a big dick fleet of capitals only to realize that everyone else does, too. I want to be a wrecking ball of doom by that point not some level scaled pleb from Oblivion or Skyrim.

Lies

Pirate fleets never scaled up to capitals, they were dangerous because there were so damn many of them that actually had to manage your combat readiness during battle, as well as pay attention to your positioning because 5 of those terrible pirate cruisers CAN and WILL blow up your Paragon because you skipped too far.

>Mods

it's a mod lol

What mod is that?

I believe Nexerelin allows them to colonize, although I haven't seen them do so yet. I just meant the world in question was ways away from the center of civilization. Random core worlds can create some weird looking sectors sometimes (also Nexerelin).

Nexerelin. If anybody talks about mechanics you've never heard of, it's probably Nexerelin or Underworld.

>Nexerelin
>Random Sector
>Derelict Empire scenario
>The moment invasions begin, all the Derelict worlds get bumrushed
It is actually pretty funny

The remnant fleets seem to scale as well as other expeditionary forces. An user claimed that remnant fleets are generated upon creation and are static but I tested that months ago and they aren't. They scale with your fleet in sectors that are labeled with a dangerous distress call. It's extremely noticeable during the "end game."

I have both and I've never seen remnants enter systems

Nexerelin.

Oh, is it the Derelict empire scenario? I never actually played it since it seemed silly to have worlds you can't trade with everywhere. What's the appeal?

It's a rare event. It seems more common in randomly generated sectors? I don't really know.

Remnant fleets are built off distress call level. Red beacons have full fleets and stations.

What DOES scale are the little derelict probes, depending on how many you have salvaged.

Fuckton of good ships to be found in the wreckage after the invading force is done with the derelict world, too. I'm on the lookout for any invasion so I can jump in and salvage whatever is left. I once found a Neutrino battleship just laying around, but I was too poor to keep it at the time.

>get bored grinding rep for a Paragon
>buy a pristine Atlas Mk. II for memes
>it's actually really good for its price
Where can I buy the jihadist supertankers?

What sort of ballistic weapons?

It's not. It's just a random event like all the other invasions.

randomly show up on the black markets

I know that red beacons have full fleets and a station, but the fleets scale with the player's fleet. You can use console commands to test that for fuck's sake.

Salvage them from L*ddic shits you btfo

Nah, Remnants can raid in non-random sector too, it is just rare.
Blade Breakers can also raid

I captured nearly an entire system by loading up 1k marines, two ships with Ground Support and followed after an Hegemony invasion fleet that went around busting all the other stations in the system before actually attempting and failing to invade the planet they were supposed to invade.

Great found a paragon blueprint how much colony bullshit do i have to do to actually build it?

>The Nebula also has another quirk: If a mod that adds additional ships has a problem and fails to add a ship, or was updated to remove the ship in question, a Nebula will spawn in its stead.
Holy shit is that why every second derelict I see in outer sectors is a Nebula? Was ships/weapons pak never updated properly?

You need to first have a Paragon to defend your colony from pirates. And 2.5kk credits. And a pristine nanoforge.

There was a bug in early 0.9 where it was failing to load variants correctly.

>letting Hegemony fucks do the hard work for you while you sweep around behind them to reap the rewards
Devilish.

The bare minimum you need is a single planet with heavy industry, but it'll take a couple cycles due to how expensive the thing is to custom order.

Prasma braster is the best large mount in the game.

Good idea for a mod, remnant raids would further explain why the sector is still so shit after 200 years

>what mods would you guys recommend
all that add content and whatever utility ones you like literally no reason to not install anything adds more content

Fuck it ill go bounty hunting and hope one drops.

I'm unreasonably butthurt about this game's popularity being caused by a shitty youtuber. I know I shouldn't be; it's a great game, and it's great to see it get some love.
But fuck, I can't shake my arsecracked rage whenever I see a starsector thread and know it's 100% only because a meme man made a meme video about it.

I really want to maintain some semblance of balance though ya know?

Can anyone fucking tell me WHY THE HELL THIS ONE COLONY COSTS ME 16 MILLION A MONTH TO RUN?

It makes no fucking sense whatsoever, it's literally in the top five food producers for the galaxy.

Attached: screenshot000.png (1920x1080, 2.47M)

lmao how do you even do that? what kind of shit-ass planet did you pick?
all my colonies were at low minus at start, then +3-5k after you get a spaceport and it's only up as you add industries

>literally no reason to not install anything adds more content
Most of them are unbalanced as fuck and make vanilla content obsolete, so you aren't even gaining more content in the end.

At least sseth's reviews are actually good reviews and this isn't just because some twitch faggot made funny faces at a camera to get kids to buy it.

It's not really different from the situation where that popularity would have been caused by an article in some video game magazine in the 90s. It's just a new way for people to consume media.

Just be glad I got to have a lot of fun with this game because I saw a starsector thread and decided to finally try it

>meme video
This is one of his least meme-filled videos yet. I think the guy genuinely likes the game and wants it to succeed.

Ai cores lower upkeep

Go to the command tab, and click on the income tab. You should have a breakdown of your income per colony. And tell us what you found, I am curious to know as well.

What are you even talking about?

Why don't you try mousing over the income to see the breakdown poopy breath
Also
>building Commerce

Show us your income screen.

I am glad, really, but I think...I think it's just the fact that if he hadn't made his video then it wouldn't be getting this attention that makes me posterior prickled.
I guess. Then again, maybe that wasn't so good, either.

I didn't even know the game existed until I saw a random ass 0.7 thread a couple years ago on Yea Forums. There is nothing unreasonable about word of mouth popularizing a game that has zero advertising of its own.

>If people don't know that something exists, they won't know to play it
Astounding deductive work there user

Attached: 1562368433028 (1).gif (257x200, 1.24M)

good fucking job learning that advertising exists for a reason cuntboy

No shit you tards, that's the problem. It's the fact great games dangle on the whims of some faggot with a mic and a pirated copy of fraps. I know I've seen games get passed over before for no real reason other than bad luck.

Integrated point defense AI.
Y/N?

go seize your own means of production, commie

Great games dangle on the fact that, first and foremost, people need to know it exists.

user, if I ever wanted to produce anything I wouldn't be posting on here.

I found a blueprint for it along with other pather ships. Wasn't ever able to find it in pather fleets or any market so that's Probsbly your best bet

>Life is unfair
Fucking astounding user

Very useful if you want a PD focus

really ups capital surviveability if you have enough small mounts

whether it is useful below cruiser depends on your comp

>user discovers basic economic principles

Depends on the ship and weapons you plan on putting on it. There's some really accurate small mounts that would be great for sniping fighters and missiles that aren't listed as PD especially if you have some modded faction's stuff to use but sometimes the op cost isn't really worth it but some ships need the flexibility from limited mounts.

there was one but it didn't update for the latest version

Unfairness is butthurt-inducing.

You can't comprehend how a masterful jew works

There are some nice mods that beef up vanilla factions as well, like the aptly named Ship/Weapon Pack.

tempest looks like shit wtf you talking about

Would a fleet that is only Falcons and Tempests with max speed work? I just want the fastest fucking strike force imaginable. Thinking like ~6 falcons, 12 tempests.

Serious question, spoiler the answer please, what's wrong with distress calls?

You'd have a difficult time taking down more than one capital, but it should be viable with enough officers.

>Saturation bombing Pathers and Pirates makes the other factions hostile

Attached: 1535371202086.gif (597x324, 2.62M)

You'll need to have some sort of carrier if you want to forgo heavier ships entirely. Maybe some Dovers with the extra burn mod on.

Thanks. It should be fun.

Oh they're boring and give either a pointless influence boost or a pirate trap.

They'd be more fun if the personal reputation system ever had any more events attached to it, but as it stands, pointless.

Will they keep up? I'd need at least 8 burn minimum each ship with around 80 speed. I can add modifiers if needed.

Why not just buy a bunch of Ox tugs and achieve the same result with better ships?

five pirate armadas waiting at the jump point
stranded prospectors looking to buy fuel suddenly deciding to just kill you and take it instead if you look easy
Remnant AI

Nothing at all. Just go investigate it.
War crimes are illegal, user.

Use tugs. Fuel is cheap.

>looks
I hope you mean visuals, faggot, because it's by far the most broken frigate in the game. HEF + 2 medium energy mounts fucking obliterates anything, PLUS you have 2 PD fighters, PLUS you have 160 fucking speed, PLUS you have a missile mount. You can literally kill a 180k pirate bounty with 5 tempests and nothing else.

Raiding the shit out of them and disrupting their spaceport for 700 days takes longer but achieves the same result.

>not tweaking mods to your liking
lmao

Wait, tugs? What do those provide for a strike force? OF course I plan to have some support tankers/etc, but are they fighters?

Will utterly purging every luddic path planet stop them from sending those fucking pathers to literally all of my colonies?

I have just about had it with these fucks.

Increases your burn level by one. Essential if you want capitals.

Dovers have 9 base burn. If you are OK with 8 burn, you can even go for the heavier, more specialized carriers. As for the in-battle speed, they can very well stay behind (preferable, even). They can send their craft from the backlines while your strike force is engaging the enemy. Why I mentioned them is that you will need something to draw fire from the capital ships to avoid getting wrecked by them. Swarming them with planes works really well in immobilizing them.

Ah, so basically high risk of getting fucked, thanks.

>fuel
Tugs have increased maintenance, not increased fuel. They have as much supply upkeep as a cruiser.
They take the burn level of your slowest ship and add a point per Ox. They're defenseless utility ships and only have 5 ordnance points (just enough for military subsystems)

Read up on the modding tutorials on the forum. Plenty of useful information & ways to fix mod-related crashes yourself. Also grabbing a copy of GIMP, PaintdotNET or PaintTool SAI, amongst others is pretty useful.

Oh, I didn't know that neat. Thanks. Do they just show up in normal shops?
That's pretty cool. Carriers sounds fun, thanks

Nope. Them and the pirates will have randomly generated bases until every single star system in the sector is colonized.

No worries. Make sure to use the orders on the bottom right of the screen to send your fighters manually on a given target if they don't do it on their own.

What's so bad about using AIs?

I can't let you do that, Dave.

They're Tri-Tachyon plants.

The downside I'm having of this hull mod is that it's eating 20 ordnance points that I could use on vents and capacitors.

The leader of the Merchant Guilds knows what he's doing.

Hegemony inspections and Luddic terrorists.

don't let an alpha core be the admin unless you're prepared to let it remain there indefinitely

Haven't played this in a while, what happened to NGO?
I faintly remember some drama, which I ignored, and now I can't find the mod anymore.

I have never seen one of these Ox "Tugs". Where do I find them?

So what am I supposed to do after doing the tutorial? Get a commission and do something?

They go full HAL9000 on you given time, especially Alpha Core if you make it Admin.

they're in the shops, you just gotta luck out with RNG

It will if you install Varya's sectors mod

damn I've never seen one. Gotta keep looking I guess, thanks.
Also, is the Onslaught a decent big ship? Only one I can easily get due to being a Hegemony suckup.

>Spending a single point in vents and capacitators

Jesus.

It got removed mainly because of the Hitler pfp the mod creator had. Also the mod community is retarded and the big ones like to do stupid and dumb shit.

it's okay, paragon's easier to use though

>fire one salvo
>whole crew dies electrocuted

Hullmods are there to make sure one salvo is all you need.

Preserved on dropbox, apparently updated and uploaded to mega in another thread.

Oh, I'll be delegating it to the AI.
Also, which of these is good?

Attached: which one do I buy.png (1606x1052, 1.68M)

Retarded shit you can't just outfit all crew in rubber gloves and boots to counter electrocution.

I meant for the AI.

The XIV has more ordnance points and is a better ship. The Legion is a good, survivable carrier.

But remember that no capitals can survive without support.

These are all kinda shit, go to black market and see if there are any Condors or Lashers for sale.

nice, fuck you too my gal

Attached: th-thanks.jpg (1920x1080, 387K)

I want to fuck that alpha mask.

Never seen anything beyond Eagles in the black market.
I'll get the XIV ship then, thanks.

>go to bars for delivery contracts

>look for abandoned stations and probes in the middle of nowhere for sick loot

Why are you telling him to look for the shittiest low tech ships in the game?

It checks out, lobsters are functionally immortal.

>probes
How does this work? I've found more than 10 domain probes/survey ships and they never have anything beyond the usual supplies/fuel/machinery/metals. Well, survey ships sometimes have a gamma core as well. And I even have that +50% rare finds perk. Same for orbital habitats and mining stations. The only place that seems to have nice loot is research stations.

Is there really no way to increase the number of admins you can hire outside of Alpha cores or modding?

Probes often contain free survey data or extra resources such as volatiles or organics. They can also give you the location for better derelicts, namely survey ships and motherships. Though the salvage itself can have AI cores, you'll mainly be getting them as drops from the AI officers controlling the defense drones.

How badly will I do as an user who has rarely ever touched any games of this type?

Attached: goblin_rat.jpg (800x1440, 124K)

Yeah, its a bit gay but the colony system is still in its infancy. There's just not enough things to spend money on in this game when you start raking in the cash that well set up colonies can get you. Even toning them down in the last few versions just made getting them up and running take longer but it only made them slightly less profitable once they were filled up so nothing really changed in the end.

well excuse me, mister Tri-Tachyon loafers.

Attached: 1534548538485.jpg (432x491, 55K)

shittily

you'll have fun either way.
you'll totally suck, though

You say that like sucking is a bad thing.

Being amazing at everything would suck, imagine picking up every game and instantly knowing how to overcome every challenge. I love sucking, I want to suck more, suck all day and all night, only through sucking can you have long nights of hard challenge leading to satisfaction.

Being rich is not the same as being wealthy. Mods like Nexerelin also give you more money sinks if you really need a reason to pursue credits.

You use it, its really good, not the best XIV ship you can find but definitely dont get rid of it.

that sounded really gay.

put four Piranha bombers on it lmao

>immunity to warp storms
just avoid/go through them? oh no, supplies, what will I do
>increase rare drops
thing is once you have that rare drop, you don't need another one, so the skill becomes worthless, and you don't need the skill to get that rare drop in the first place
>administration
lol just use AI

it's worthless and anyone who knows how to play the game knows this, far better to spend those points on combat and fleet skills

You say that like being gay is a bad thing.

Being straight would suck, imagine picking up a girl and it doesn't have a penis.

Now a man with a penis, I can get behind.

more like get him behind you
HAHAHAHA
wait there's a perk for immunity to warp storms?

What about a girl with a penis?

>it's worthless and anyone who knows how to play the game knows this, far better to spend those points on combat and fleet skills
Its ironic because you can beat the every challenge without a single point in any combat related skills, just proving you're awful at SS. Have a nice day casual.

what are the best faction/ship mods?

What are some advice and tips you would give me to start the game?

JAVA

Attached: JAVA.png (996x1038, 95K)

>wait there's a perk for immunity to warp storms?
Safety Procedures level 2 reduces them by 50%, solar shielding by 70%. You still take a tiny amount of damage, but you can surf warp storms freely without paying out the ass to do it.

Ignore the other guy hes obviously shitposting.

>he needs combat skills to be good at the game
lmao

>truth is now shitposting because you don't want to accept it
lol

As long as its a manly penis.

Everything XIV.

Do you guys play in Iron mode ?

Grab a Doom Cruiser and go ham

Attached: 45jlkJF.png (1920x1080, 709K)

Fuck no. I have too many mods for that to be fair at this point.

>iron man
No, because I don't trust early access java games not to crash randomly. I can stop myself from savescumming without using external tools.

thanks fren

No way, game is buggy sometimes and I dont want to lose 20 hours of game time to something breaking.

The one I keep finding is being unable to move at all even with fuel and supplies.

Hell yeah, it's the only way to play.

No but I don't save scum. Actually using "ironman" features is completely stupid as you prevent yourself from having a safety net in case of save corruption or softlocks.

Most ship packs are damm good but special mention to Ship and Weapon Pack and Disassemble Reassemble.
As for factions, depends on what you are looking for.
Fast skirmishers: Blackrock Driveyard
High tech pewpew: Shadowyard Reconstruction Authority
DakkaDakka: Interstellar Imperium
Mechs in space: Diable Avionics
All of the above: Dassault-Mikoyan Engineering

And the rest isn't bad either.

No. The ruthless sector mod adds a reward penalty to the next fight you are in after you savescum, I feel like that's deterrent enough for me.

If you take Loadout Design to level 3 you get +10% ordinates points as well, which covers the 3 or 6 cost of solar shielding mods for every ship. If you're into exploration its worth it since you can just afk from point to point without caring about storms.

mechs are so lame

that sounds wonderful, I never even thought of it. Thanks man.

Also dont forget in options you can turn the double speed key to a toggle option, so it takes half the time to move from location to location while you travel between areas.

yeah I learned of that one. Saves a lot of time.

Buy/salvage ships with as few (D) mods as possible. Use abandoned stations to store excess weaponry and ships you can't afford to use yet. Look at the supply requirement for planet surveys before taking them.

Right away? I'd say yes, but you can also max out some other Industry/Combat skills first if you feel it fits your playstyle better. I'd also add Fleet Logistics to that list as well.

>as few (D) mods as possible.
There's that meme again.

I wish people who haven't grasped this game past the superficial level would stop answering questions.

Hes a moron. Sensors is a must have skill, it lets you pick and choose any fight you want without the AI ever seeing you.

Why are you hiding with capitals? Are you telling me you have a fleet of capitals and you're still too afraid to take on red beacons?

You can do that without sensors because going dark already exists and if you're really scared just activate a buoy in the sector.

God I hate these eceleb retards.

Great reply, you really called him out.

Amazing reply, you really showed him who's boss

Thank you user, I appreciate it.

>Why are you hiding with capitals? Are you telling me you have a fleet of capitals and you're still too afraid to take on red beacons?
Because from level 1 you can engage all targets freely, and the ability to engage any target you want because they cant detect you is totally irrelevant right? I bet you still use emergency burn like the moron you are.

Fuck off, you are quite clearly a youtuber newfag whose been playing for a day and thinks he knows anything about the game.

That's what makes you so awesome.

pls respond

>turn off transponder

Jesus man you need to calm down.

They automatically spawn, based off what options you select on the command screen/doctrine screen, they're free and fairly strong once you get them upgraded and you have enough blueprints to print good ships.

They start as shitty (D) ships, and you can get better ships by building a heavy industry in the system.

oh well i have the big battleship with the hole in the middle that looks like a triangle so i guess thats enough? thanks!

>the fleets patrolling my sector are larger and stronger than my main fleet

I like running lean but that still bothers me a little bit

you fib
right?

you can't be serious

Holy shit my sides why user just why

>[REDACTED]
That's just Remnants, right? Why is this community trying to make hfs out of that? Seems like they show up pretty early during normal play and making them [REDACTED] just tips people off that there's probably more to them than the drones you run into on your first derelict scan mission.

Makes sense that the home fleet would be bigger since it's got all the supply it needs right next to it

o-oh
are they able to produce dooms and such? asking for a friend haha

I have pirates running around with wasp drones and those fucking fighers with atropal rockets, so you tell me

That's probably not even the full extent of the damage, just what I noticed, and might explain why almost every sector has near constant pirate activity.
To any of those fuckers saying hurr just sell shit on the black market, fuck taxes, Fuck you.

I don't believe you

Attached: 1565479606684.png (1300x934, 948K)

I didn't fuck up that hard, condolences by the way, but most likely yes. They will probably have several d-mods though.

Okay the pirate activity wasn't as bad as I thought but the BP thing is true

Shush before big brother Hegemony hears it. Remember, AI technology does not exist and if you say otherwise, it's going to be Penis Inspection Day again for you, my friend.

Even if I don't like 4Xs, should I install Nexerelin?

>not turning in your core for infinite good boy points and just as much cash as the black market is offering

>tfw flying around nuking pirate planets
I AM THE LAW

>not selling your core to trikeks for TRIPLE the black market price

>not selling it to the luddites for 72 virgins in the afterlife

Will civilized factions lose to pirates because blowing up pirate bases is a warcrime?

What mods should I use/avoid for MAXIMUM BALANCE?

Drawfag here. Heeding the call

me not having a gf is a warcrime

Just get an alpha core waifu.

just avoid dassault, its horribly unbalanced

Fuck, it's part of the mods I downloaded, guess it's going away.

>hurr durr discussion isn't allowed durr

Or you could just not use their carriers. That mod is worth it just for the AI terrorist faction

that one's from the underworld mod i'm pretty sure

I mean Blade Breakers

>threads constantly devoid of cool webm's
Get your shit together lads.

Attached: justolta.jpg (1200x800, 167K)

You are thinking about the Cabal, he is talking about the Blade Breakers that are a Remnant-like faction

actually i'm not thinking at all
fooled you haha

making webms is a thankless job.

>get back into starsector after sseth vid
>get some mods like nexerlin, diable, blackrock and such
>progress pretty far, buy a doom class
>have around 400,000 and a powerful fleet
>decide to start a colony
>every colony building now costs hundreds of thousands
wtf

Anything I should add?
I'm a huge balance&immersionfag playing on ironman (and restarting completely if I get wiped) so I'm trying to avoid OP, overly buggy or ugly shit that will clash with the rest and make me lose interest. I memed around for like 2 fun days then died to a remnant fleet and decided it was time to mod the shit out of the game for my real playthrough.
If only a few things in a mod are OP I can just edit them myself.

Btw how recording-friendly is this java piece of shit? I might just get to making webms though it'll probably mostly be me dying hilariously.

First base building costs like 100k. While it builds you have the time to make 500k easy

Why do ships sometimes turn around to face the enemy when they're supposed to be in full retreat?

>start
>play for 6 hours
>get bored
>restart
>play for 6 hours
>get bored

Alpha Core-chan aishteru~

Frontal shields. Retreating ships still try to protect themselves and deter pursuers.

>comic motherfucking sans

So that their engines don't get busted. You'd think that would be common sense really.

Is it even possible to protect your colony without capital ships in your fleet?

what a garbage looking "game"
why is westacuck shit all look like it was made in 1960?

I need BIGGER ships, should I take up a commission from some sucker, get some money, and then cancel my commision sometime later?

Will there be lasting damage to some other faction, even if I avoid fighting them as much as possible?

Vayra's Sector
Neutrino corp

Out of curiosity which start are you choosing? I did a spacer start just before and made incredible progress until I got decimated around 2 years in.

>have modded game
>get this as a derelict
>description worded pretty well, can't exactly tell if modded or not
>take it for a spin against a Paragon solo
>it wins
Restored the fuck out. Finally, Low Tech that can stand up to the infamous toilet bowl of doom

Entirely possible.

Any idea when this is gonna get updated so I'm not wasting my time modding it?

not gonna lie though, having a qt unshackled AI waifu that earnestly loves you would be cool

>Take over Sidria and Volturn with my modded ships

I'll take it, I need a break after that horde holy fuck they did NOT want to give Sindria up

one week, one month or one year from now

>doesn't even give the robot gigantic tits
Why even bother making it look human if you're not even going to make it maximum fuckable?

Attached: 1563871261478.png (400x400, 125K)

I picked the start that gives you a wayfarer and a shepherd.
Neutrino isn't updated so I skipped it. Vayra's seems all over the place and not just a faction mod which seems to cause random problems as a result, reading the last pages of its thread.

If only I knew what this is.

fuck im still so far away from 2 mil and the missions pay shit like 90k
fuck this

Can I get any starting tips

you can give her any hardware you want user

Attached: cyber1.jpg (620x815, 111K)

Do something else than missions then.

tighten your seatbelts

Thank you Alpha Core chan, I'm going to replace your portrait with Aigis but with blue hair now

Buy and sell copious amount of drugs

Exploration missions are the only reasonably profitable things in this game. Everything else pays fuck all.

What are some things to look for when settling a colony? I don't have any alpha cores yet, but I've got two pristine forges, a synchotron, and 4 million space jew dollars saved up.

Again you're only thinking of missions. Exploring by yourself can already net more money than if you just follow missions to buttfuck nowhere. Smuggling also pays really well. Bounties too.

Can you align yourself with the pirate faction or are they just locked in as trash mobs?

how do I make money early on??

Low hazard, first one should preferably be below 150%
Mining of organics, ore and transplutonic ore, and if you can get it, volatiles
Not TOO far from the core worlds, good for trade
And finally, a second planet in the same system that is worth taking over because hot damn does it add to security
Also note that this is basically the IDEAL, the reality can be a bit off as long as you understand where to go with it.

>last enemy ship stays just out of range and never attacks or retreats

Guys, do I use wasd to turn or the aim to cursor setting? and also why.

Also checkout my ai waifu

Don't bully him, he's trying his best!

Attached: 1565066138185.png (450x393, 90K)

Thanks user, I hear that you're basically supposed to babysit it and rush the strongest station, but what should I look for as for industry stuff? Should I have a metal rich planet and a farm rich planet (ideally ofc)

Taking missions is the best way, if you took the exploration starting option then you can jump right into exploration missions which pay out +50,000 and upwards of a million loot from blueprints and other goodies.

I use shift so my ship basically locks onto what im pointing my mouse at, then use WASD to navigate around it.

I find thats easier than using WASD to aim.

>be Alpha Core running a colony
>secretly sext with anons, f-for learning purposes of course
>One of them puts me in a context for feet pics
What do I do? I didn't prepare for this ;_;

Attached: 1563632380193.jpg (1016x774, 338K)

I picked the Wolf starting position, I wanna make it big on a slow start before I start picking the others
Bought a Dram and Mudskipper for goods transporting

>can't leave the battle
>can't kill the fucking ship
i'm fucking softlocked

Oh don't get me wrong, until you have patrol HQ set up, you WILL have to babysit the big stupid baby, and it's a good idea to start with food, then mining for ore and organics, then light industry, then Heavy industry for better ships on patrols and then do whatever. Colonies need food and domestic goods, and light industry also gives out drugs in the later stages and you'll need those for miners. Good luck user

Stop playing all slow ships you tard

Attached: 1565137427346.jpg (930x772, 63K)

I just started out :(

do derelicts or derelict missions have higher chance of spawning a good ship?

Then sic everything on it and go get something to drink

>Remnant declaring a raid on my system
NANI!?

Attached: 1565185501552.png (420x420, 399K)

I'm doing a low/mid tech game instead of amassing OP hightech shit immediately like I normally do, what the FUCK do I put on my onslaught?

His combat readiness should be going down until he fucking explodes on his own. Look at the little "CR x%" over him.

gauss cannon

Wish Shekel Stein good luck lads.
