The two Paper Marios are pretty similar but I guess TTYD is the more polished one. I never played the original Super Mario RPG but it seems weird. I never cared much for the Mario and Luigi games. They're like the retarded little brother of the Paper Mario series. Short and with cringy lolrandom humor.
Super Paper Mario and Paper Mario Color Splash are also pretty good.

It's not so much edgy it's more of a melancholic type dark. Witch pointed out. Compaired to any other Mario game does count as dark.
It's also asfar as i can tell the game that gave Mario the most character development in terms of his relationship to Luigi, quote me if I'm wrong but i think @ one point he was even out right ready to fight someone in order to improve the moral of his brother. (witch really rang true to me knowing I'd do the same for mine.)

Those are great and maximum comfy games. Rating which is the best would be difficult as they are all different, minus the two Paper Mario games, and even that argument is somewhat difficult to form a final decision on.
I'd also add Bowser's Inside Story to OP's picture, as it's the only other befitting game.
