Why do Japanese video game stores have so much soul?

Why do Japanese video game stores have so much soul?

Because in japan piracy isn't really a thing and the used market is huge, and everyone treats their games very well because they always have value in their used game circles.

Yea Forums pirates everything, plays shitty ports on PC, badly emulates games for 5 minutes before getting bored and zapping to the next game, and in general has no video game culture or respect for the medium.
This is why Yea Forums itself is soulless.

Attached: IMG_20190809_180101.jpg (3648x2736, 2.98M)

Every time I buy a used Japanese console it's in pristine condition. Why do westerners do absolutely everything in their power to destroy their games and consoles?

So this what it's like, to see the world through weeb-tinted lenses.

Because they're obese slobs who have no respect for themselves, thus no respect for anything else.

Westerners destroy their games because they destroy anything else in their life in general.
Most western countries are hardwired to destroy, rather than create.

fpbp

>western store
>Nothing older than ps2
>Close to new game prices
>Japanese store
>Everything from Atari upwards
>Cute handdrawn recommendations
>Clerk actually played their own games

Also important to note that the Japs are still really into physical media

Try something other that gamestop.

It's a tiny island so it's easier to find these kinds of specialty shops nestled together. You'd only see something like this in the US if you didn't live in the middle of nowhere.

All brick and mortar stores price their shit at least 10% more than ebay prices, it's insane. Especially considering ebay takes a cut of your profits so you can't use the excuse that they make less selling in person than on ebay.

that's why I buy my previous gen shit from amazon.jp

need a dualshock 2 or 3? 9 out of 10 times you'll be getting a Chinese counterfeit ordering from anywhere in America. In Japan if it says Sony on it, it's a Sony product

Such as?

I usually buy from ebay but I checked the amazon.jp prices and they're so much better than the american prices. Spice Orange gamecube controller is 20 dollars that's how much the chinese knockoffs sell for on us amazon.

He's right though

I tried this one place near me.
>All the employees were niggas just crowding a Street Fighter 2 arcade cabinet screaming over each other
>Anything with cartridges, particularly N64, was just haphazardly thrown into a bin, including the first party Nintendo stuff
>anything remotely worth getting was selling for over full price
>had to wait for like 15 minutes to get rung up because of they were too busy screaming over each other
>came home with a still in the box copy of Persona Revelations because they didn't actually know what they had.
That store might've been an isolated incident for the US but it feels like those Japanese stores take much better care of second hand goods.

The only reason a fag like you is even talking about this kind of stuff on this board in the first place is because of those people who pirated and emulated all this obscure shit.

Attached: 1368291691150.png (341x290, 215K)

lots cheaper to ship games from your (ware)house than to sell from a brick and mortar store.

Selling in a store is more than the whopping 10% ebay takes?

They haven't been driven out of business by soulless corporate owned chains like Gamestop

They're all shit that continues to have to move farther into the ghetto until they finally cave as a business and the next moron tries again

That's a good tip.

My Xbox 360 controller I bought said "licensed by Microsoft", looked identical to mine but when you moved the analog stick you just jerked all over the fucking place so something was up.

I guess you gotta check inside the battery compartment to make sure all the right logos for FCC and Xbox are there to make sure its legit.

How did things get so fucked up?

>walk into retro game store
>they're asking 70 dollars for super mario RPG
>broken/3rd party controllers everywhere
>tables set up for smelly yugioh/mtg players

Is that the store with the arcade in it with all of the retro games? Akiba

damn...

obsessed weeaboo thread
you will never be japanese
and the japanese don't think or care about you at all
in fact they want you to stay away from them

Dont care as long they sell me their shit.

Because they dominated videogame output for ages and most of it is their own unique cultural products.
Why you would expect anyone to treat the american direct-to-video "online store installer on disc at triple the price"-equivalent with the same respect boggles the mind.

Attached: 1562801199084.png (392x489, 346K)

Because corporate owned gamestops didn't come in and sterilize the countryside with their 2 dollar trade-in bullshit. US used game scene used to be super comfy, but then came in the gamestops.

Did you really delete and repost just to fix a typo?

A lot of those types of businesses are family owned, and even some corporate stores still let the clerks had some personality if it helps sales. I've walked into book stores with self-made promotion stickers for new releases and old favorites.

What about if you eat some shit before your talk like a retard? thank you.

Based

What a respectful lad. You could learn a thing or two from him.

Obviously, this isn't reddshit.

Didnt say it was bad.

Every store really had it's own personality.

In my town I have 3 Gamestops proudly standing on the graves of Funcoland, Babbages, and GameXChange.

>buy a piece of Japanese merchandise from an obscure Sega Saturn only shooting game
>shipping is from Japan, affordable due to the small size and weight of the package
>it arrives in about two to three weeks
>nicely packaged
>padded with the local news papers
>also has a thank you card, some free Kirby stickers and a green tea kit kat
I wish the Japanese were taking over the world, not the Chinese. Every Japanese I've met online has been a fun person to talk to. They even put up with my EOP ass and understand my jokes. Seismic is a good man.

All the industry got moved to china then the chinese realised they could sell the stuff themselves and make some cash on the side. The smart phone repair refurbish culture, for example, is fucking huge in china.

I had a little origami shuriken in one of my packages. Still got it years later.

>buy shit from japan
>arrives within a week and a half despite having to ship from overseas and me not paying extra for faster shipping
>always comes with those little paper things that I assume are some kinda good luck charm and various knicknacks (mostly just little candy or cards for arcade games)

>buy shit from within the US
>takes just as long as not longer as the Japanese deliveries despite being only a state or two over, also somehow ends up costing more than the imported equivalent
>lucky if I even get the item I ordered and not a far shittier quality copy or just fucking nothing and have to take up a claim with wherever I bought it to get my money back

The shipping means you end up paying about the same if not more though.

I've gotten little cranes. Hand written thank yous in poor English. It's the little things that make it nicer.

>praising yourself
From respectable to cringe real quick

I really havent had a had bad ebay experience and I've been using it for 15 years and have 200 transactions (about 2/3 buying 1/3 selling. From what I hear buyers are opening up false claims and sellers are mailing empty boxes all over the fuckin place. Have I just been lucky?

The CoD box is suggesting it can help you with your girlfriend
>implying

No, hes not, half of sadpanda traffic are jap IPs, even more with nyaa, every jap thats not a total normalfag around the internet pirates shit.

There are some scammers, one I know of in particular in CRTs. Generally I do well for myself and treat the people who buy from me well. I think I've only ever had one bad experience that the seller was supportive through, refunding me.

Damn, so much truth in this post.
Wish he got trips

>imagine being this much of a faggot

Attached: screenshot.png (1735x1025, 142K)

Looks like he struck a nerve. No one cares what ESL retards like yourself have to say. You can stop existing tomorrow and nothing would change. Funny how that works.

I've grown to hate emuniggers overtime.

thousands of dollars in rent, electric, insurance, paychecks, and general overhead

Why are you one of the scalperhomos who bought boxes of Earthbound cartridges they can't shift?

I agree but I tried to actually buy a snes to play a game I played when I was younger. The console was shit and the controller was busted. The cartridge deleted my save if a slight breeze went through. Emulation is a good thing. I would have had to go through the same thing with another game if I didn't still have my ps3. Luckily the game I got was also in good condition this time.

Likewise. I used to be one 10 plus years ago, when I was 14, 15, 16, etc. Same trap everyone falls into. "Oh I'm poor, parents don't buy me games any more. PC gaming seems nice, hey I can get stuff for free easily - and I can emulate old games." Then comes the mental gymnastics to delude yourself into thinking it's superior all while playing the same handful of games you've already played.

It's miserable. Since getting back into consoles and moving away from PC I've discovered new favorites, experienced new libraries of games, rekindled my love of games, and now dedicate my free time happily playing through new things.

I pity the PC gamers who are stuck in the phase I grew out of. They'll get defensive about this too. It's a shame.

When you live in a condensed city of 36 million people things like resale circulation and client to client multiplayer/coop are easier to accommodate

I actually came back from Japan recently. Everything I bought from Akihabara was gift wrapped and some came with stickers or little trinkets of the store mascot. All the used games stores I've visited had their games either pristine or cleaned and wrapped condition.

Might as well ask, what are some Japanese books you've enjoyed reading recently? I've only ever read light novels because I have no idea where to even begin with regular books.

Based, Yea Forums sucks!!!

Try Temple of the Golden Pavilion. Yukio Mishima is a great artist.

Man I wish I lived in Japan sometimes

Thank you! I'll look into it.

>got a copy of smrpg for $20 in LA
rgc fucking rocks

Apparently it's shit. But apparently it's also great.

retro game camp is good shit

Because its normal in Japan to take pride in your work even if its shit work.

Has nothing to do with piracy of video games. You see it in literally every other industry there as well. Food is a really noticeable one if you're American because Americans are so used to just looking for low quality high quantity foods, so going to japan where people actually try to make quality is very abnormal to them.

More niche industries, like physical video game collection, can be successful in Japan because the quality is maintained and higher quality makes more people want to get involved.

Also, everything is much closer together in japan so having to travel to a niche shop somewhere else in the country isn't a ridiculous idea like in the states. So even niche businesses can stay active.

I remember the story of some tiny shack of a game store ran by a single older lady for the entire duration. She was in her early thirties when she first opened it somewhere in I think Tokyo.

Her and her store became so well known for her recommendations and personal reviews that people from Sega, Sony, Nintendo etc actually sent reps over to talk and discuss what she liked in games and what would it take her to give out a good recommendation.

Sadly about a year ago, she fell ill and closed down the store, because she felt nobody else would be able to run it. It was open 6 days a week for like almost 25 years.

I want to find a first party wired 360 controller. No local store ever has them and there's no way to tell if the ones you see on eBay or Amazon are real.

>check Amazon.jp
>actually have them in stock
>270 USD

Attached: 1316867589740.jpg (600x600, 116K)

nothing makes me sadder than thinking about all the cool retro vidya stores in Japan and then remembering the only places where I live are

>gamestop, which doesn't even count
>some thrift store in general (mostly focused on books and movies but has a solid game selection) that has great prices but I refuse to shop there since every case is coated in stickers that are straight up impossible to remove (not joking they're a thousand times worse than gamestop, I only bought one thing there but I straight up gave up on getting the security stickers under the already terrible stickers off and just bought a burner game for a spare case elsewhere which made the savings not even worth it)
>a used movie/game shop that is generally pretty solid but its prices are basically ebay/amazon tier and rarely has anything I'm interested in
>a FLGS that has a small vidya section that's even more expensive than the place that just lifts its prices off ebay/amazon

Except that literally isn't the case. California is about as big as Japan and has nothing like what Japan has. It's because Japanese only buy physical stuff.

It's a bit different than that. You don't just see this kind of care put into specialty shops in Japan, even bigger stores are "cute" like this to varying degrees. I live on a crowded island myself and I don't ever see this kind of care put into specialty shops. I think it's just a "every other place does it" kind of thing, so everyone else does it too because customers actually like that kind of stuff. If you've ever bought from Japanese ebay sellers, it's not uncommon to get a handwritten thank you note (I've gotten them multiple times), and even a big online store like amiami includes a printed insert of their mascot with every purchase in every package. It's definitely a Japanese thing.

It's two factors. 2nd hand shops are very popular in Japan, they have higher standards for what they take and sell. Second, Japanese have smaller dwellings which leads to them selling more things more often when they need space which just reinforces the first point. Let's not even bring up the fact that the Japanese are just a very clean people.

>City actually had a small, but cozy retro games shop for a long time in the north end, which admittedly wasn't a great location but seemed to be busy enough
>they made enough to buy a better location, in downtown
>downtown of course costs a shitload more, but they had more room for inventory
>they also decided to open a second location on the east side
>they started running out of retro games fast, tried to make up for it with more and more modern titles
>eventually fell for the funko pop/gamer merch meme
>closed its doors after last Christmas season was over

Sad times, I still can't help but wonder what would happen if they didn't move to downtown, or at least not tried that second location. They expanded too much too fast I think.

it's crazy how there's still such a market for Famicom/Super Famicom games in Japan. I remember there's an episode of Game Center CX that showcased a store that specializes in still selling Famicom/Super Famicom games in their original boxes even.

I pirate but I agree with you.
This place is garbage and j hate 75% of the people here.
The issue is Yea Forums is like tobacco: addictive yet shitty and harmful in the long run

damn niggah, you nailed it. 5 star post.

Cope harder. You will never be Japanese and emulation will roll all over you

It's a different branch of super potato

Honest question lads, whats with the people who shit on Japan for everything, even when they do something good. Seems even when Japan is literally better at something irrefutably, there is a certain group of people who will still bitch and call you a weeb for pointing it out. Is it anti-weeb? Koreans and Chinese? It's really odd.

said the guys who tried to destroy the west. guess what we won.

>Balkanized commiefornians don't support local spic business
Color me shocked

Now was it bowl, or BOWLLESS

Butthurt Yanks who still aren't over Pearl Harbor.

>don't support local spic business
Explain

It's just Yea Forums.

>Need to replace a ps3 controller that had been in my service for years
>eh don't wanna wait for shipping, sure i'll pay the $8 premium to buy one from a retro store
>Stick begins drifting about a week later
fuck these places

delusional fag is delusional

The nips value Physical.

The west values Digital.

Which is a shame, I argue with my friends constantly about how digital is a fucking trend and DRM is the fucking devil. However, nobody believes me. Sure you get the convenience of not having to get up and place the disc or cartidge in your console, but you lose the right to trade games, resell them, borrow them, or play them on somebody else's system.

Attached: magic_the_gathering.png (599x427, 286K)

>buy xb2 controller for fair price after shipping compared to those scalper fuckers
>comes with movie promotional posters I never knew I wanted
>controller and box are in good condition and legit
>order discontinued in-ears and replacement in-ear/headphone cables from JP
>nicely packaged and ended up lasting to this day
The few times I order shit from JP I've never been let down.

It's because when you pirate a game or emulate it, it takes all the value away except for what the game itself can offer you. As it turns out, a lot of these games are overpriced and not very fun to actually play.

Attached: 1401958614974.jpg (500x637, 194K)

>every case is coated in stickers that are straight up impossible to remove
Why the fuck are people still using hard-to-remove stickers when Japanese used game stores have those easy-remove stickers that you can peel off even paper boxes with no damage?

Ironic since the average internet speed in Japan is orders of magnitude higher than that in the US.

>the number of upset people replying to this post who were clearly triggered by its burning truth

Same reason merchandise isn't kept in bombproof security casing: they don't have a nigger problem.

Naturally, realizing that video games can only have real value as collectors baubles will do that to some people.

Why do Japanese _______ have so much soul?

Based Wiedzmin speaking the truth. All these gook games are repetitive boring garbage that sell for 100$ just because memes.
Literally the Halos and Call of Duties of weeb games.

Jealous Americans.

ugly bastards have no souls

what the fuck is with the dirt cheap prices?

Fuck, bros. FPBP totally btfo'd us.

Its pretty chilld if you speak the language are not teacher and make an effort to integrate. Can't say I ever lived in a cozier, less stressful place than here.

>Sure you get the convenience of not having to get up and place the disc or cartidge in your consol
Even then, how many seconds of a person's life is lost switching out the discs for games versus loading them? Not saying you agree with that argument, but I just see nothing, literally nothing that digital media has over physical media.

>buy a japanese Ace Combat 3 to complete my AC collection
>it's 15€
>claims "good" condition
>it's actually fucking mint

Attached: Dwj6n4GXQAA9J20.jpg (1200x900, 115K)

sigh........ it's because they have fun

>stores have soul because there is no piracy
Way to immediately out yourself as a complete an utter clueless fucking moron in your first sentence, there is just as much piracy in Japan as there is in other countries, that has nothing to do with why stores there are better.

Japanese 'used' is nearly immaculate. If there are flaws they usually point them out, no matter how nit-picky it is. Also there's a 50/50 chance a Japanese seller will write a hand-written note or put in free stuff if you order from them online.

The company I am working for here is stupidly picky when it comes to dealing with suppliers. Each and every part that gets delivered to the production pants get inspected by hand/ Of there is just a tiny flaw or something like the company logo not printed properly the whole shipment gets send back.

Its a huge problem dealing with western suppliers, about 20% of what they sell us is getting sent right back because it doesn't meet quality standards.

I had something similar happen except it was an animal crossing villager amiibo, various nintendo character stickers, and no green tea kit kat. It was the most pleasant transaction I have ever made in my life.

Well, if we do want to talk about actual positives, not that I like digital:
-If you keep your account you can always redownload the game using a different system
-In some instances having the game downloaded allows it to run faster
-Digital allows sellers to save hella money and therefore, make more games in the future

A game that does poorly does infinitely more damage to itself if it releases a physical version.
That's why you see a lot of indie games go digital first and with popularity then they release a physical.

>be me
>me and a couple of friends saved a bunch of money to take a trip to Japan
>was excited to see what we will find
>went into a bunch of gamestore that had games in mint condition in their box and all
>we were like kids in a toystore surrounded by wonders and even have goofy fits because one of us grabs a game one of them wanted
>all of them were even cheap or at a fair price
Why can't the west just have cool shit. Coming back home made me realize how limited in shit we have and buying the stuff online cost a bunch

Attached: 1550486330487.png (222x255, 111K)

we do. you're just not looking. we have some comfy shops here in seattle

i wanna impregnate illya

What's to explain?
People don't care about buying local when the local community is made up of foreigners.

>Why do Japanese video game stores have so much soul?
Because they have to.
All the shit you can get in nerd stores in Akihabara and elsewhere, you can get cheaper online, either from yahoo auctions, amazon or bookoff.

burgers are fat and stupid and only know how to break things.

Because they don't have to fear being shot walking into one.

Same. I fell for the hardware meme here in aus a while ago and the cartridges were shit and the little sticker for the controller was peeling off. Still paid 200-300 dollars for all of it because there was no where else in the city that had one.

I will say you got owned but you are right with the cope. That idiot is a otaku apologist and Yea Forums gaymeen culture is far superior to even that of Japanese otaku.

Tales:Series in a nutshell by the way.

Depends on the store. One of the EB Games in town has an employee who takes a marker and blank sheet of paper and doodles a goofy cover whenever they get a trade-in with no case.

I don't know but I always make sure to visit a bunch while I'm over there. Even as someone with PAL region systems their accessories are useful. Plus Xenogears was never released here anyway, so any copy I got would just be for the shelf. They've just got a really pleasant atmosphere like you don't get in most western game stores.

Not bad, I'm surprised the newest game is the more expensive of the bunch

If you've got a PS3 it should run a PS1 game from any region.

I already have Xenogears from the US PSN, so that'd be kind of beside the point. Plus I can't read Japanese anyway. Just wanted some stuff for the shelf.

because they are alone¡

Rastan?

Some of the most based taste I've seen here in a good while.

I got a small present for my mother and they included a handwritten thank you letter and some Japanese confectionery as well. Nice people every time I ever deal with them.

>Because in japan piracy isn't really a thing
Hahaha holy shit how fucking stupid can you be?
>and the used market is huge
Jesus fuck it just gets better
>and everyone treats their games very well
Sure thing champ.
>because they always have value in their used game circles.
No. It's just that these games had large prints in Japan so they're cheaper. Games with low print in Japan have just as much of a problem with price. The only thing that somewhat keeps the Japanese market in check is that most people don't "collect" games so after someone purchases and beats a game they will generally sell it- with that said the Japanese collectors market is the biggest group of absolute fucking shitbags you will ever encounter. They will horde games, undumped, some unconfirmed to exist just to wag their tiny dicks in their little circle.

If you don't think that children in Japan treat their games like shit you haven't dug through a Hard-Off or any other non boutique store. The used market isn't huge, the rarity is just different on different products, JRPGs aren't worth as much because it's a genre that sold back in the 90s- but if you think people are going to sell their copies of Umihara Kawase, Cocoron or Little Ralph fpr cheap because "the market is huge" or some samurai honor bullshit holy fuck are you dense.

tl;dr, shut the fuck up you absolute retard, you have no concept of what the retro or used market is over here.

PS3 enforces PS1 region locks
(I assume you can remove it with hacks but don't know much about that)

I'm too busy walking through Kyoto to reply to my thread more than once every few hours

More like the Japanese are too overworked to play games

Been recently? Post hauls.

Damn, this must be super potato only a retarded foreigner would pay that much
I picked my copies of the entire final Fantasy series from I to VI for ¥500 each complete in the box at BookOff

lmao

Most otakus would take better care of their shit, that looks more like a hiki with some seriously fucked up issues.

Go to the junk section of BookOff, my girlfriend told me not to buy anything there because it's "junk" I was picking up CIB copies of dragon Quest on Famicom for literally a loonie, they had a bit of wear and tear on the edges of the boxes, but the carts were in pristine condition and the games run perfectly I honestly didn't understand why it was "junk" it would have been sold for $100 over here

That's a dorm.

Was there recently, picked up over 100 games, mostly PS1 stuff. Here's the super Famicom stuff I got, going back for another trip soon

Attached: IMG_1167.jpg (1431x2005, 702K)

I actually like this aesthetic. I wouldn't want to live in filth but a bunch of tech lying around and stacked to the ceiling with books and shit is nice. My rooms always feel empty because I don't care enough about any of my interests to collect physical stuff and it hurts.

The selection was limited where I was looking, I made do. I wanted a Kyon instead of Mikuru but he was like, twice the price for no good reason. Also, the fucking hand on the regular Haruhi broke as soon as I tried to replace it so she's out of action at the moment, good thing I got two. Rip KyoAni. First time buyfagging too, I'm planning on expanding the collection.

A couple MegaDrive stuff, this is really hard to find outside Akihabara and expensive. Each game cost $20 more than double what I paid for the Super Famicom stuff

Attached: IMG_1169.jpg (2048x1424, 745K)

faggot

Famicom, these are the ¥100 dragon Quest games I got you can see the corners on IV look kinda bad but I've seen a lot worse being sold as "new" on eBay

Attached: IMG_1431.jpg (2048x1112, 660K)

the fact that they still have the box is a fucking testament to the previous owner.

Based and soulpilled.

There's a reason why you don't see a lot of Sega retro stuff in these threads, they didn't made the amount of stuff compared to Nintendo back in the day.

Yeah, it seems like the standard there is with the box, and if it doesn't have the box it's sold at a discount
Where as in the west, the standard is a loose cart and if it includes the box it's sold at a premium.
The most expensive game I bought was surprisingly yoshi's island which was around $30, everything else was typically $5 to $15 there was a few things for a $1, mostly on Saturn and PS1 games like Tekken, Panzer Dragoon, Virtua Fighter were all a $1
I think my most expensive disc game was RockMan 8 which was $10

I was staying in the suburbs of a city of 300,000 people, about an hour away from Tokyo by train. I didn't go to any game stores, just BookOff and I didn't see a single MegaDrive game besides Puyo Puyo, I've even picked up boxed wonder swan games but I only found MegaDrive in Akihabara unfortunately

People give Akiba shit these days for being too tourist-y but like it or not, it's still the most reliable hub for finding shit. No good getting better prices if they don't have what you want to begin with.

over at the /wristwatch/ thread on /g/ we all just buy old japanese seikos from japan and the condition is always fantastic despite being the cheapst on the international market

there's one guy who ships 2 thousand dollar wristwatches with zero declared value, very illegal and risky and wonderful cuz u pay no import charges

If you have something specific in mind, Akihabara is great. Window shopping is really awesome of course, looking at the display cabinet of Neo Geo games that are about $5,000 out of your budget was really awesome, but I never have a specific game in mind when I shop, I always just browse and buy whatever interests me that I see there.
I'd only spend a day in Akihabara, honestly there's more interesting places in Tokyo that aren't related to gaming

Fucking love Seattle. Went there with my dad and brother years back. Amazing place.

It may be because I otherwise live in the flyover midwest, but it just seemed far more progressive, the people seemed nicer, it was cleaner in general, etc.

Somewhere had this thing on the shelf, which you just can't get anywhere anymore. For like, $600 roobucks converted or something obscene like that.

The figure shops in Akihabara were really cool, but they just had way way too much Gundam stuff, I guess it's cool if you're into Gundam but it wasn't even anything special the regular department stores in the suburbs were selling the same stuff.

If California had transport links nearly half as good as Japan that would be comparable. Japanese public transport links are real fucking good which makes it easier to get to places.

It doesn't have batshit insane shit like the US does like roads with no walking space to own the poorfags.

Gundam's just the majority of the kit market these days unfortunately. I found a little Patlabor stuff floating around which is what I was after but yeah, the smaller franchises didn't seem to be getting much love.

The hand-made signs in OP's pic give comments about the game mechanics and such. Pretty neat.

Here in Australia you sometimes get people doing that at a chain called JB Hi-Fi, which is kind of like a Best Buy counterpart. Though it's usually just shitposting.

Based and soulpilled

This 100%.

I love reading those signs, especially when you find the ones that are clearly written by someone who was told to by management. All those sneaky backhanded comments hidden in there

This. Gaming in Japan is seen as a respectful thing, specially since after the gaming in the west crashed, they practically redesigned the industry by themselves.
I kinda see it in the same way as movies in the west, in the sense that movie culture is a big thing in America due to how prevalent America was in that industry. It's easier for there to be something like themed restaurants like Planet Hollywood in America in the same way that it's likely there's vidya themed restaurants in Japan.

Speak English pajeet

No store in America could display all of that in the open. Crackheads would clean it out within a night.

Based. Whenever I pirate/emulate something, it really does feel like it lacks soul

That's because games in nip land are fucking expensive. Full price games are closer to $80-$90 so of course they want to trade and resell used shit.

No way, new release games in Japan are cheaper than in Canada.

8154 yen for Persona 5 royale in Japan, that's 101 canadian dollars.

Meanwhile most new games are 80 cdn in Canada.

Very comfy and soulful

Not as soulful as their stores.

my bros
I like seeing the drawings they post on columns/walls near each game section

What do you think of their arcades?

This. They are collectors of novelties by culture. Just like nobunaga had a nigger made samurai to have a unique piece in his collection.

Is this store in tokyo? The one i go to in shibuya has similar notes and stuff on the games too, but not to this level.

It's Shibuya actually

You both like shitty games

some prices are fucked. Super C for 50 bucks? that shit barely hits 20 on ebay.

I would like to try the Kaiji VR

>Haruhi
Good lord user, why are you like this

>You'd only see something like this in the US if you didn't live in the middle of nowhere.
I live in a city that is on the coast, and in the top 10 most populated cities in the US. We don't have shit like that.

Because I was there the day after the KyoAni fire, had their stuff on the brain.

Fuck you, pirates like you ruined the lives of businessmen like me you fucking asshole.

thats a nice patlabor, hope you keep that shit pristine

It's a Master Grade, so I need to build it first. Worst comes to worst, I'll bite the bullet and get a preassembled AV-98 if this doesn't go well.

what i learned was to take more time than you think you need when you build, sure its a slog if youre not into that stuff but having it look perfect afterwards is a much nicer reward

Super Potato is like the only place that does this. Go to Book Off and see huge tubs full of carts to sift through with no funny pictures. Fuck off OP

Best post I have ever read in this site.

It represents the problem beautifully. Nobody here respects the medium and the mentality is one of instant gratification and there is no culture or drive to be better/good as a community.

In Japan they also generally take care of things and have discipline when it comes to games. Not to mention they appreciate and respect the past.

Damn.

>The amount of people believing this post from someone who's likely never visited Japan
I didn't realise just how stupid Yea Forums was until now

B&M pays staff, rent, utilities, benefits, shipping for products, taxes, etc.

Ebay is sometimes a warehouse and their software to allow people to use the site in the first place.

Have you just been asleep at the whole B&M can't compete with online stores and is getting priced out culture shift?

I have JP copies of 4 5 and 6

Now I remember a used game shop I went to recently and it was a borderline shitshow
>very little organization, same systems were
together but if you expected alphabitezation you're out of luck
>CIB cartridge games had price tags but were behind the counter and so far away you couldn't read them
>Only okay thing was an MK4 Arcade Cab put on free play

I almost didn't leave with anything until stumbling over old dvd collections of G Gundam and Brain Powerd that were in a basket, on top of dvd's, on a table outside the store. Stores need to organize their shit if they want people to actually buy shit.

>Bought Tales of Destiny DC off ebay from a Jap seller
>Was told it would arrive in late June but arrived in May
>Game was used but everything was in perfect condition, clean, and the case had plastic wrap over it
>Bought .hack Mutation from a North American seller on Amazon
>Had everything with it but the case was dirty inside and out
Why the fuck do people run their games through dirt so often?

>Implying there's anything wrong with Haruhi in 2019

Who would give respect to an infantile thing such as videogames?

why the fuck did you buy something on ebay with no pictures of the thing's condition?

PC itself is soulless.

>buying used on Amazon
Don't ever do this. You have no way of knowing what it looks like.

Because japanese have souls while we do not

or maybe it's just easier to go online and buy shit..

>place is a huge fucking mess
>despite that, all that the consoles and carts have is a little dust buildup

Japanese are truly the kakoii, even when being a mess they surpass the gaijin pigs.

one of the most retarded correlations ever attempted, this is your brain on non-stop cultural warfare

It's not a tiny island, it's a bigger landmass than the UK. Bigger than Germany, too.

>I wish thee Japanese were taking over the world
they might have done so but then burgers happened
daily reminder you're living in the worst possible timeline

The Ebay seller had pictures and everything. The Amazon seller just said it had everything and it worked so I thought it would be fine after having a few positive experiences

Ok ok man no need to rub it in.

English is for faggots you fucking faggot.

I actually had the same thing with a second hand figurine, the japanese are just too wholesome for this world
