it killed smash forever, so yes

meleefags were just being total dumbasses.
tripping still sucked tho.

Ironically wrong answer, but unironically right answer

It was great, subspace emissary was a lot of fun too

I mean it was certainly better than Smash 4

I hated how you could unlock every character from the story mode, same with Smash ultimate. I wish Brawl still had it where you had to do certain things to fight and unlock character like Melee had. I can forgive Ultimate since there are so many fighters.

It was the last actual Smash game.

Kill yourself, then take a shower.

I don’t remember the cover being that bright

Better than the stupid shit adventure mode they added in ultimate

Colors were darkened on the US boxart

Nah it was really fun at a casual level. Not nearly as good as the others though.

Burger detected.

>I wish Brawl still had it where you had to do certain things to fight and unlock character like Melee had

But the characters all had multiple methods to unlock them, including requirements similar to those in Melee.

It was a great game but it was hampered by Sakurai's autism about the competitive scene.

No it was a pretty excellent party game and I enjoyed it back when I was like 13 and it came out. I got like 200 hours out of it. The floaty physics were immediately noticeable and bothered me at first but I got used to it after a couple of days.

>only Smash I competed in even though played Melee more
>make it to finals at my local
>get dunked on by a 12 year old using G&W
Feels bad

>tripping
>slow as fuck
>entire meta revolves around Meta Knight
Melee may be a broken piece of shit but it's still more fun to play than Brawl. The only good things about Brawl are the Subspace Emissary cutscenes

God you're so entitled. Take a shower.

Melee killed smash by setting unrealistic standards for what smash should be with no room for growth or suggestions.

You have games like Dragon Ball Fighter Z and Rivals of Ether that either come out with DLC or patches and you still see those communities thriving. Better than the Smash community at least

>entire meta revolves around Meta Knight
Git gud.

>the only smash to natively support dpads

Attached: 52597940.gif (500x363, 992K)

Yes. Nothing else matters if your game is a boring slog that doesn't control well. Complaining about tourneyfags is a shitty distraction tactic. Everyone I knew who played Smash went back to Melee within a month because Brawl wasn't any fun to play.

Competitively yes. It was horrible.

Casually no.

>"unrealistic standards"
"Healt At Every Size" landwhale queen confirmed

It's not perfect, but I enjoy almost everyone new they added. Amazing casual party game, a little annoying to play seriously.

Subspace's cutscenes were amazing, but replaying some of that shit feels like a slog, especially with how all the shading feels "dirty" and desaturated. Every area feels like a deserted hellscape labyrinth.

The physics felt like shit from day 1. It gets increasingly less fun the more you understand the game. SSE was shit with sluggish platforming, sponge enemies, and way too many donut steels. Overall the game was just terribly disappointing. A bunch of decent ideas, but terribly implemented

Attached: 1562977887771.png (1908x2160, 2.05M)

This. Brawl is where casual smash peaked

Maybe unpopular opinion but I really don't like final smashes, I enjoyed FFA more when the scariest items were Pokeballs.

I dont know what the fuck you guys are talking about, I had a lot more fun playing this game than Melee. The new stages, updated graphics, new refreshing characters, and a great adventure mode.

>just git gud against a character with multiple recovery moves, multiple jumps, a glide that can go under one end of the stage and come up and out the other, tilt moves that can cause tripping and make him untouchable in the air, and a spammable neutral special that eats through shields

Attached: 1563367795645.png (1280x341, 49K)

It had soul

Honestly, let's all agree on something, Yea Forums
Ultimate > 64 > Melee > Smash 4 = Brawl

If you think otherwise, take a shower.

this. had as much playing this everyday as I did with melee

I hated tripping and subspace was pretty tedious but the rest of the game was fun. Loved the graphics, music and roster.

It was made the way it was to spite tourneyfags so they would play the way Sakurai wanted
It was slow, jumping was floaty, there was random tripping for "fun"
I'm glad the taunt parties made Sakurai fix all that shit with 4 but that game was also terrible

Same. I clocked in alot of online hours with friends I made on forums. Of course we didn't play the game competitively like autists.

Swap Melee and 64.

Why couldn't they fully implement the no-tripping mod? It is something so subtle that nintendo wouldn't notice it. 64 has the timer mod, and Melee has UCF, both regularly used. Getting rid of tripping would instantly make a lot of the cast way more viable, especially fox.

I forgot. It's been a while since I played through Brawl, but the story mode makes the niche unlock methods pointless.

64 > Melee is the most contrarian shit you could think. You probably didn't even play 64.

not really, plus with mods it became the best one by far so its not like it matters

Not him but I had 64 as a kid and absolutely loved it best smash game imo

overall it was a great package even if the core gameplay was a huge downgrade from melee

Subspace is literally the only reason people have good memories of this game. The gameplay was shit, but it still have the best solo content of any Smash games.

I enjoy World of Light for the most part, not nearly as much Subspace, but I enjoy all the same. My only real gripes about is the lack of platforming levels and that a lot of the higher level Spirits are pure bullshit

I really wish Ultimate had its own beat-em-up mode. I'd even take a new Smash Run.

Brawl was the end of Smash, so yes.

it had a lot of charm. outside of how it plays, no other story mode topped SSE

I'd say
Ult = 64 > Smash 4 > Melee = Brawl

I have almost no good memories of Melee despite owning it for the Gamecube's entire lifespan but I remember playing the absolute FUCK out of 64.

WoL is boring as fuck, they recycle the same challenges way too much. Why is everything 1 stock?

it's the best smash you faggots

Last game to let us see peach's panties without cheats or exploits.

It's the last smash with soul

COME

>I have almost no good memories of Melee
lol all my memories from new years growing up are from melee

>What is Ultimate

>Brawl had Final Destination and Battlefield unlocked at start thus made people autistic as fuck if they don't play on those 2 maps

That alone killed Smash for me. In Melee, if you are tired of people of playing on those 2, you can delete the save data for unlocked stages since you had to unlock those 2.

Why is Melee still so popular it doesn't even have online haha

>unrealistic
It's perfectly realistic. Nintendo could easily dump the money into making a game like Melee again.

A game with mechanics that are fun for both casuals and serious players that feel good.
A game with new content and trophies and shit we've never seen before; not just ripped from other games.
A game with new models that actually complement the gameplay.
A new game that actually celebrates Nintendo and its history and not just new shit.

The only problem is that Sakurai and Nintendo have no interest in making a game like that anymore. You fags will still defend them though.

becuse fox moves likeh a spaz duhhhh

speed, weight, and style

Attached: 1540817241985.webm (480x360, 1.33M)

yes it fucking sucked, even if you r not viewing it from a competitive lense,it wasnt even fun casual

Attached: 1565139802991s.jpg (125x96, 2K)

Very autistic reason for disliking a game but I also hated how people kept playing FD and Battlefield when there were so many fun stages. Everytime I tried to pick something like Delfino Plaza or Eldin my friends would panic and beg me to reconsider.

People take this party game way too seriously lmao

netplay

No one sane thinks it was bad. It had Snake, Subspace Emissary, and final smashes. It was the last video game with soul.

Attached: Best Roster Ever.png (720x825, 1.25M)

You got it backwards. The people that like 64 more are the ones who played it first

Holy shit, that’s autistic. Just pick a different stage, nigga

Fuck off robonigger

Anther's Ladder homie. Some fan actually created a netcode better than nintendo.

t.didn't play brawl
You either played Meta Knight, ICs or Snake.

Delfino plaza is actually fun, but I guess it's a 50/50 since there's a lot of weird hazards during the actual places.

Your friends probably hates Eldin because people will tend to play in a more campy manner due to the walk offs and the gigantic hole in the middle.

Spirits are not souls

>d pad
>in an analog game

I had a blast playing it with friends but thought the single player campaign in Melee was better.

only good story mode in a fighting game i've played, had the best remixes in the series, wasn't melee, had online play. can't remember a bad thing about it outside of tripping.

>Pick different stage
>People throw autistic fit since its not BF or FD

>every sword move had transcendent priority, literally lost to nothing
>extremely fast movement in a game where no one else has that
>extremely fast moves, always safe to throw out
>tornado eats through pretty much everything, invalidates characters on its own
>2 frame u-air that is godlike at juggling and helps him momentum cancel the best out of anyone
>shuttle loop had partial invincibility on startup, the follow-up attack was autocancelable and was a kill move, perfectly safe
even casuals knew how busted he was. what were they thinking?

>wasn't melee
rent free

Me and my friends were super casual, so we didn’t really care about the stages. Sorry you had to deal with special needs kids growing up

I just played it after playing ultimate for a while. Fucking horrid in comparison. Imagine an anti competitive fighting game

>only good story mode
correct
>best remixes
also right, though Ultimate has some i really like(bomb rush blush is 10/10)
>wasn't melee
that's a con, not a pro. Otherwise, people wouldn't have made Project M
>had online play
it was terrible. It was pure suffering. People who died and went to hell only found a Wii running Brawl online and have to play it for all eternity. Fans created a better online experience for melee AND brawl than Nintendo ever has to this day

>Imagine an anti competitive fighting game
I don’t need to, Brawl exists

Tripping was inexcusable, and the final smashes had zero balance. Beyond that, I loved it mechanically. Also, I'm really disappointed they changed Olimars upB. I really liked cheesing people with it's range and direction.

Other than the actual core gameplay being worse than the previous two, it's probably the best entry as a complete game.

As much as I adore 64,I can't play that shit unless I'm 2 beers in and high on nostalgia.

smash sucks

Regarding the whole online thing, it really puts into perspective how far fans are willing to go with this type of shit. Say what you will about melee, it's impressive fans have kept the game alive this long in a competitive sense. As you said, fans highhandedly improved brawl entirely.

Actually, smash sneeds

>a game where everybody uses only fox or marth at the competitive level because of the worst character balance ever seen in a fighting game

Attached: stfu.jpg (720x492, 29K)

>worst character balance ever seen in a fighting game

Attached: brawl mk.jpg (479x290, 90K)

Melee is leagues more balanced than Brawl, holy shit are you high

Arguably one of the best in the series, so no. If you think it's a bad game your IQ must be around 2.

Pissed off veterans of Smash, over casualized Smash forever (should have been what Ultimate is gameplay was today), and the SSE was ruined thanks to shit choices for theme/enemy selecting, and forcing 2/3th of it to be rehashed ala boss rush at the end for no fucking reason

It basically didn't live up to the hype that Melee brought to the series. It was close, but it stumbled at the finish line. Ultimate today back then would have been the proper Melee sequel.

Yeah. Music was great though.

I really liked subspace emissary. Tripping was a bad addition but since I never got into competitive smash it never bothered me. Combat was slower than in melee but I had fun with it, the inclusion of sonic blew my mind at the time but now third parties are everywhere so it's nothing notable anymore

>From worst to best
5. Melee
4. Ultimate
3. 64

>one day gf and I decide to play around with brawl
>decide to play subspace on intense
>gf fucking sucks
>absolute carry
>still having fun though
>final boss
>gf eats all the stocks every time
>refuse to change the setup
>literally 24 hours later
>using sonic
>no hit, one stock win
>still can't have sex because god fucked me first
Brawl was a good time

I'm still hoping they add back smash run to ultimate. It was really fun playing something like air ride's city trial and fighting regular enemies like in brawl was cool.

yes scottthewoz
your opinion on it is clouded by nostalgia and your cuck face is annoying learn to dress and get a real haircut

How did ScottTheWoz ever become popular?

This game was awesome. Came out at a time when I had tons of people around me who wanted to play it. Local multiplayer is rare now that everyone is grown up. I don’t give a fuck about competitive smash. There’s nothing but smelly fatsos into it, and it gets no respect outside it’s community of neck beards. At least more casual people shower.

If Brawl had patch updates to fall back on, like its sequels, it would have proceeded to blow out at least SSB4 by a large degree.

>gf
Fuck off.

>Win a college Brawl tournament as Ike
It's one of the most bittersweet college memories I have. Hype as fuck, but waiting for my matches was pure cancer because the vidya club was filled with autism this world has rarely ever seen. I spent my $30 Best Buy gift card winnings on the Bravely Default special edition

Take your HRT

That's basically what the average tendie looks like.

You people talk so strangely....

Why do so many people hate Smash 4?

>"Looking back at it, was *trip* it really *trip* THAT *trip* bad?

Yes, yes it was. *trips out of thread and falls down stairs and breaks neck*

hes the exact generic "I grew up with wii, ps3, and xbox 360" personality and panders to that era which is why hes popular
hes nostalgia pandering for zoomers which is what made him popular

Good thing Smash is a party game.

I played it none stop from beginning, and even I remember how truly bad it was a launch.

DLC and patches truly saved it, and made it atleast pasible.

I won a guitar hero tourney in highschool and it was rad as fuck. Mainly because the guy I was going against was an insufferable prick and when I pulled ahead at the last minute, everyone cheered. Won a pretty good Dean guitar that complemented my Strat.

For me it's less that I hate it and more of the fact that Ultimate feels too close to Sm4sh with Ultimate offering a lot more characters to choose from. Every other smash has a unique feel to it that would want me to come back, but the only reason I MAY want to take on Sm4sh again is to take on the Master Fortress again. I'm more likely to play classic mode in 64 than that.

Yet he went on James & Mike Mondays and somehow knew more about nes games than them

it had a great modding scene
>Brawl minus
>all those character PSAs like Shadow, Cloud, the 2d marisa that literally came out of nowhere and freaked everyout
>god/OP characters that you could try to fight 1v3 with some friends
>custom stages and voicepacks
>the millions of shitty nude mods on brawlvault

Smash 4 is the most solidly-made smash game. As a consequence, it is the most boring. With few(if any at all) cool tricks or advanced tech, most characters were very shallow.

that doesnt disprove what I say
he could just be faking that personality for profit/notoriety

I don't hate Sm4sh but it was super barebones and I got sick of online because of shieldgrabbing.

It only barely improved from Brawl.

My favourite one. Come at me bros.

Newfag

Oh I know. Just thought it was funny that he was kind of showing up people who "specialize" in that era.

Brawl will forever be the best smash to people who just liked to play casually with bros and don’t give a fuck about esports or the competitive scene or whatever the fuck

Content-wise it is the best, not even ultimate can surpass it. Gameplay-wise, what the fuck was Sakurai thinking?

>he only started to shit on Brawl after the documentary
Explain yourself.

Attached: Jackyv.jpg (774x626, 93K)

Even people who don't care about that shit would rather play 64, Melee, or PM.

brawl isn't even the best casual smash. Melee pokeball battles shit on everything you could do in brawl and ultimate is better in everything else except SSE cutscenes. The game is ass if you played it more than 2 weeks

after playing world of light i can say, I actually miss subspace.

Ultimate took that spot. But Brawl still has the best single player content

?

Why the actual fuck would you rather play Super 12-character Polygons over Super Chad Bros. Brawl (with 35+ characters including Snake and Sonic, the Subspace Emissary mode, and easily the best soundtrack in any smash game)?

SSE (excluding the Great Maze)>Adventure Mode>Smash Run>>>WoL=Great Maze
You can’t debate this. Also I’ve never owned a Wii U, so I got nothing on Smash Tour

everything else > smash tour

Well, the series Smash Bros IS a casual party game on the same level as Mario Kart, not a fighting game.

Documentary?

It had great selections for newcomers. Great hype with Japan time. The game itself was fun but a downgrade from melee.

>Japan time
Take me back

Attached: 555B209C-DE8A-4562-AEFC-C67F9662040C.png (960x1000, 588K)

Smash 4 will be forgotten in a couple years.

GOD-TIER single player and unlockables
GOOD-TIER casual multiplayer
SHIT-TIER competitive

its basically a beta of Ultimate

>Also I’ve never owned a Wii U, so I got nothing on Smash Tour
Smash Tour was hot garbage so you're missing nothing there
Honestly the 3DS version was straight up better. Better stages, better single player, easier to play than trying to get the one guy me who had a Wii U to set it up. The only thing the Wii U version had it over it was graphics.

It was complete shit, but Japan Time 1.0 was peak Internet soul.

Probably because of the gameplay, you retard

literally the only reason to go back to it is if you like bayonetta and corrin being horribly unbalanced and you REALLY liked rock smash, otherwise everything about Ultimate is better

Subspace was hot garbage. It was embarrassingly bad. I couldn't believe Nintendo hacked together such a subpar experience with a straight face. It was like something out of a game where you make games. Like some 13 year old made it in little big planet.

Shit roster, shit content, shit effects, shit gameplay that went one step forward (remove tripping) and went two steps back (removing almost all of Brawl's salvageable tech, busted shields, down-throw up air).

The characters move on a 2d plane, attack in 8 directions, and doubletap to sprint. You can achieve all of that with a d-pad.

It's ultimate but worse. It's the only game in the series that was almost completely invalidated by the one that came after it.

Brawl made way for the actual best smash game, so it was worth it.

Attached: file.png (1280x720, 1.33M)

Yeah and the characters also all are able to be influenced by trajectory with the analog stick

I never understood why smash is the only fighting game community that doesn't freak out whenever they see someone using stick, or why other games don't use the analog stick

Yes. Even as a kid who knew nothing about the competitive scene it was just off. There was no weight or oomph to it.
People like to give the strawman that Meleefags only hate Brawl because it didn't have the glitches and exploits Melee had but that's completely wrong. I was only vaguely aware that "wavedashing" was even a thing, and that was the extent of my knowledge of any glitches or tech, and I could absolutely tell that Brawl was just bad and not fun.

Melee >> Ultimate > Brawl > 3DS > Wii U
I can't bring myself to list 64 anywhere, it feels unfair to either judge it by how good it was for its time OR by how good it is objectively, and compromising between them feels arbitrary.

I got you
64 > Ultimate > PM > Melee > 3DS > WiiU

It's the last one that my friends really played, because none of them had a WiiU

Great content, but easily the worst smash to actually play. It was my life as a kid, but it was actually kind of painful to play in the leadup to 4. It just feels janky.

brawl was peak soul

>shieldbreaking
>less moves
>hitstun forever long
"no"

>You will never go back to playing this with 3 other friends with final smash on for fun, and everyone completely disregarding tiers, roll spamming, or ledge guarding.
Smash is fun as a party game and shit as a fighting game.

>Melee killed smash by setting unrealistic standards
Imagine a game being good killing your series. Wild shit man.

Yeah sucks we can only imagine though

People like you that drone on and toss out terms you don't really understand are the biggest dumbasses on the face of the earth.

t. smelly

I wish Falco was still good.

Smash 4 still had the best online

>For Glory and For Fun distinction to weed out the shitters
>Taunt limit at 2, +1 per kill
>Option to change characters after every match

Brawl was just Taunt party, and Ultimate cucks you into staying as the same character, unless you join random arenas but who the fuck actually does that

Anything that is against competitive fags is okay in my book. Brawl was kino

SSE was kino and I still go back to it and play it every few years.

kys glownigger

people complain about Brawl being a shit competitive game but it was also a worse game for casuals than Melee as well

the annoying, overpowered, and mechanically broken shit was figured out on pretty much day 1

all it took was 1 guy abusing shit like metaknight tornado spam, dedede chain grab, wario chain grab, olimar smash spamming, etc to ruin any casual game with friends

Attached: 1448445298713.png (1300x1000, 584K)

>smash run was fun as fuck, but was stuck on the 3DS
>Wii U just got that shitty Smash Tour mode
I'm still mad

Not to mention setting up custom tournaments with up to 100 people online.
I miss Smash Yea Forumseekends

I got it back when it launched, and I couldn't stand it even back then. Everything was floaty as fuck, tripping as a mechanic is the worst idea ever, and the online play was a godawful lagfest. SSE and new songs/characters were the only positives about it.

I thought they'd be revived when they made tournaments for Ultimate, but those are just gay.

youtu.be/YSluwQoIfnE
idk you tell me

it's the 3rd best smash game

It gave us a lot of great new characters and game modes. My friends and I played the shit out of it. Other than being floaty, not being very well balanced, and having no option to turn off tripping, it was a pretty good game. You can tell Sakurai put a ton of work into it.

I mean it's the best smash to date. Healthy mix of single player and multiplayer content. Many great stages and songs. Many new characters, and many of those weren't clones like in melee, 4, and ultimate. Not to mention, it respected the tradition of guest characters by only having Sonic and snake. Only bad thing was the abysmal online.

>snake
>respectful guest character

just watched the finals of Brawl at Smashcon yesterday

yes the gameplay was that bad, game delivered on great single-player content unlike melee or tr4sh though- I also wish that ICs and DDD didn't have to pay for their Brawl sins in ultimate, their normals need to be buffed

Attached: ICs.jpg (400x329, 119K)

You can basically mod out all of its problems by installing Project M or Legacy XP and still have access to all of the content. It's literally the best Smash game.
inb4
>with mods

Smash documentary. Look it up on youtube

Smash hasn't been a good casual game since Melee. A good chunk of items in Smash 4 make traditional free for alls unfun so I mainly just stick with a minimal amount of items turned on or none at all. Ultimate has way too much clutter for anymode outside of 1v1.

Brawl had the best items 2bh

Gameplay-wise? Yes.
Content-wise? No.

I miss the fire cracker launcher. I would remove all the shit they added after Brawl and the Dragoon just to get it back.

As broken as it was, I miss DACUS and the modding it had.

PERSONALLY,

Stop.

Smash 4 is undeniably the worst in the series, it's probably the closest to ACTUALLY killing the series.
>Look at this fun, unique and interesting mechanic for a fighting game: edgeguarding
>"Wahh, I'm bad at game, you grab ledge, you hit me off the stage, it''s impossible for me to recover, unfair game."
>Recoveries are more free than ever before
>Magnet hands
>No ledge hogging
>no more offstage pressure
>people just waiting on stage watching people to recover

The gameplay felt weird and slow and everyone took ages to die, as soon as I beat SE I couldn't find enjoyment in the vs mode so I went back to melee.

The FGC are complete slaves to convention. They literally wouldn't consider a game that used the analog stick as a primary control method 'a fighting game'.

Wouldn't it allow for a lot more options and better movement though?

Subspace was the best this series ever got. More that please.

Brawl defenders are just as delusional as Star Wars prequel defenders

it has the best sound design of any game I've ever played, everything feels crisp and nice when you get hits in. Outside of that I enjoyed the single player, it has my favorite newcomers after ultimate and some of the best stages in the series

so yeah, I'd say it's overhated.

can the fucking 64 meme finally die. It has like 12 characters and 2 of them are clones, no stages, barely any single player, half the moveset that would be added in melee, looks and plays like garbage.

Alright Meleefags you have ONE chance to convince me that your game is the best Smash game.

FATH MOMENTUM JUMP, REMEMBER CAPTAIN FALCON (pink) 'S KNEE! Dude *click* look *click* *click* at *click* *click* *click* me *click**click**click* wavedash
