Shin Megami Tensei

How the fuck do I get into this series? There's dozens of these games.

The only one I have played is the metroidvania with the funny jester guy, and that's about it.

How you get into thw series is play the game. Try nocturne. Its the 3rd gamr in the series and the first one to come to America. There is no mjaor continuity so your not missing anything

Nocturne

start with IV

Came here to post this, also SJ 3DS rerelease is 'better' than the normal SJ

Nocturne is actually pretty fucking terrible as first SMT game.
My first game was actually DeSu and I think this is pretty good choice. In general any newer game like Strange journey and IV is a good starting point.

>DeSu
>SMT

>If you want to get into the core series start with Nocturne, then Digital Devil Saga duology
>If you want to get into Persona start with Persona 3 FES or Portable, then Persona 4 Golden and then you can choose either P1&2 or Persona 5
Once you're familiarized with the core series you can freely try Devil Summoner, Devil Survivor, Strange Journey and other spinoff series
If you liked Persona but it wasn't weeb enough for you then you can try the abomination known as "Tokyo Mirage Sessions"

This is what cover says but I wouldn't know

Is that the full pic ? that pic is great

>Not calling Megaten SMT
Look at this pleb

>Nocturne is actually pretty fucking terrible as first SMT game.
Nocturne was my first experience with the series and it was kino as fuck, FUCK YOU
Back to your Persona containment thread

If you're American, all of Megaten is the SMT series.

Nocturne, Strange Journey, and IV are all very good starting points if you want to get into mainline SMT.

If you want to get into mainline Shin Megami Tensei specifically, then play SMT4. If you want to get into the Megami Tensei franchise as a whole, then play Persona 5.

Is the Strange Journey 3DS remake superior to the original?

Yes, some random npcs got cool portraits, it gives you some alternate law/chaos ends that are great and so on

Is TMS really that bad? It looks like a fine game

TMS itself is not that bad but compared to what was promised it was a letdown

>His first was Sinchronicity
How the fuck did you even find it to begin with?

Is Devil Survivor 1's DS version worth playing?
I don't have a 3DS and can't get that one to work on an emulator.
Or should I just skip to DeSu 2 as that one emulates fine?

The gameplay is good, people just don't like the Japanese idol thing.

What's the difference?
I played the original, but not the remake?
Its the same but improvement or its brand new?

Start with persona 5 and the branch out depending on how you feel
Want more persona? Persona 3 and 4
Want bigger focus on the demons? SMT 4 is a good starting point
Like fire emblem? The devil survivor games are really good
That’s the reason I love megaten so many different games from character action game to a h game they got everything

what was promised? i never followed the game's development nor did i care for it. mind telling me?

Your either butthurt about him saying it’s SMT cause in Japan it didn’t have the title or are saying it’s persona

Atlus USA is right in trying to call them all SMT. Why the hell were they not all acknowledged as being in the same series originally in Japan when they very obviously were?

Both of the games are neat:
>While the first game has a darker story just like its mainline, the sequel is more like a alien invasion
>The sequel has alot of demons than its precesesor
>Demons has alot of focus in the prequels story than the sequel
>The sequel has a improved battle combat than the prequel
>Both of the characters are unique on their own
>The sequel has a compendum
If you want a dark story like the mainline series then DeSu 1 is for you.
If you want a alien invasion story with a better gameplay then DeSu 2 is also for you.
Either way, its a neat one.

>Its the same but improvement or its brand new?
Same but improved, there is also new ends demons and stuff, you can play it fine on citra if you want

some more demons, new story content (mostly optional) bigass new dungeon similar to Nocturne's labyrinth, QoL stuff that makes the game easier admittedly like being able to save anywhere and no limit on sub-apps anymore, but there's still save stations anyway.

The very first trailer for it marketed it as a crossover between Fire Emblem and SMT. After two years of absolutely no news, Nintendo revealed the first proper trailer for TMS which showed off idols, jpop, and personas that vaguely resembled Fire Emblem characters. Needless to say nearly everyone looking forward to it was confused, disappointed, angry, or any combination of the above.

Start with persona 5
Shut the fuck up

So far I've played: Devil Survivor, Persona, IV, Soul Hackers, and IV:A. I have the following in my (large but shrinking) backlog, which should I play first:

- Nocturne
- Both DDS Titles
- Strange Journey Redux
- Both Raidou Titles
- Persona 2 IS Remake, and EP on PSN
- Personas 3-4
- Persona Q and Q2

Attached: 1552174767271.jpg (1200x1200, 611K)

Nocturne then DDS duo if you like Nocturne

Persona 5 is the worst starter since its too fucking easy. If you want a easy start but that it isnt borderline ridiculous then play persona 3

Sounds like a good plan. I really need to track a copy of DeSu2 down too

Start with Persona 5, it's the best starting point.

I started with IV, then played all the other ones Soul Hackers is still my favorite

what about smt 1 and 2? You ARE going to play them eventually, right, user?

not him but aren't they 2hard?

I only played 1, for that I can say not at all, Marin Karin works in most bosses, and even then Zio and Bufu will shock/freeze them so 80% will hardly have a chance to hit you. You only ever are in danger of multibosses(which are like, 3 or 4), or enemies that repel phys attack while you are on Auto(which is going to be a fucking lot)

Not the same guy but i plan on playing them...once a remaster is released

Yes, then i play the second one too

Devil Survivor is one of the best starting points for the series IMO.

Strange Journey is probably next best as long as you like dungeon crawler.s

oh damn that fucking sucks. i can understand the negativity now. thanks for explaining

Any game but II is good, really.

Same reason every Donkey Kong game doesn't have Mario in the title.

Japanese fans just know they're all MegaTen.

Honestly SMT1 is one of the easiest games in the series. Every encounter can be won spamming charm bullets IIRC. SMT2 is similar.

By playing shin megami tensei you dipshit

Persona 5 is pretty fun, you should play that.

Also there's a super easy infinite macca glitch ins SMT1.
