Why the fuck are devs so incompetent that they can't make a good and fluid enough system for sword fighting in games?
Rocksteady somewhat got their shit right when it came to unarmed combat in the Batman games, what's taking it so long for others to figure out something for sword fighting that doesn't look like total jank?
>Rocksteady somewhat got their shit right when it came to unarmed combat in the Batman games Is this bait? Those games are mind-numbingly challengeless.
Nolan Robinson
Sekiro
Hudson Wilson
Real life sword fighting is total jank.
Josiah Moore
You think real life sword fights were well choreographed dances? I bet it was just wild swings til one guy tired out and got fucked.
Gavin Taylor
The best system is probably that one Ubisoft game from a couple years back, it was a bit slow and clunky but it felt fairly nice and hefty. Too bad the game was shit.
Oliver Turner
Good, fuck sword fighting that shits boring let's see mace fighting or chainsaw fighting.
William Hall
Isn't it documented that swords would even be gripped by the blade in battle and used as a club? Sounds total jank to me
William Jenkins
Sword fighting (trained) was mostly trying to catch your opponent off guard. Every block was a counter.
Connor Hill
Mordhau, the technique you described, was used against armored opponents. It acts as a improv hammer.
Jose Fisher
not realistic swordfighting but sekiro has some pretty fucking good combat.
Jose Fisher
I practice swordsmanship in a swordfighting school and we all agree its kind of bullshit. Yeah euro swords are blunt partway down the blade but if a sword is sharp, it will fuck up your hands using the blade as a handle even with gloves. If the blade is dull enough to be gripped by the blade, why are you even using a blunt sword? It would get caught up on literally everything you hit with it, so just use a mace. That is the conclusion we have come up with. Holding the handle with a hand on the blade near the hilt for leverage is fine but hitting shit with the handle is a joke.
>it will fuck up your hands using the blade as a handle even with gloves This is bullshit. You don't practice swordfighting at all. There's a dude on YouTube smacking a tire with the technique.
>Rocksteady somewhat got their shit right when it came to unarmed combat in the Batman games Whatever your point was, your opinion on combat stopped being relevant after this
Levi King
Skallagrim isnt sword jesus, he is just a youtuber. I have watch his videos and i agree with some of his opinions but still his method for holding the sword well enough for his demonstration but we just dont trust it. It just seems like a bad idea to attempt when you could just use the sword by the real handle. The impact of hitting something while holding the blade COULD cause it to shift in your hand and cut your hands. Its just not a risk i would want to take.
Adrian Jackson
Mordhau?
Cooper Taylor
mordhau
Ethan Adams
>Why are you even using a blunt sword Fencing masters like Fiore dei Liberi and Philippo di Vadi show examples of swords specialised for armoured fighting, that are only sharpened close to the point (edges on either side allow the point to slide in easier while thrusting) and with spiked pommels and crossguards to be used like a spear/pollaxe.
Thomas Foster
That is a specialty sword and would be completely fine being used in that situation. The japanese for example had the yoroi-doshi that was a triangular geometry dagger that was blunt and made to stab into armor gaps and weak spots. I was just referring to a run of the mill sword with normal blade geometry.
James Reed
This is you. Also, of course a swordfighting school is going to discourage one of the most damaging, and possibly dangerous for the user technique. Doesnt mean it still wont work though.
Then why say "i do swordfite irl and we all agree mordstreich is bs" when it's common knowledge to anyone who's looked at fencing manuals for a bit and has actually practiced?
Nathan Long
Yes, it being such a dangerous move for the user is why we dont think its a good idea. Thats all im trying to say.
Blake Clark
But thats the point. Your coming from the perspective of a setting based around safety, while simultaneously engaged in something that is inherently dangerous. Your group deciding that that move is too dangerous to be used only reinforces the fact that in an actual deadly situation, it becomes one of the MOST viable moves despite the danger. Saying that “it doesn’t work” is a misnomer at best and a straight up lie perpetuated by your safety cult to keep people from even attempting it, most likely for liability reasons.
because you would need some sort of force feedback special sword shaped controller to get the kind of information you would need to fight fluidly in a videogame.
I understand what you are trying to say. Safety and compliance is something that is rampant in any sort of martial art because of the liability involved. I, personally, would avoid that technique because i wouldnt want to risk cutting up my hands on the blade in a dangerous situation. I have never actually engaged in life or death medieval combat so perhaps i am not experienced enough on the subject. My apologies to all of those i have offended by saying that their ideas dont match up with my ideas.
Ryan Mitchell
imagine being too much of a pussy for holding your sword by the blade, might as well get a crossbow at that point
