i just find the animations and sequences hang on to long at certain parts, like they knew they were making a game like this and yet didn't add any kind of speed up for combat/walking for when you're tired of playing the game and want to get to the end

As many anons said, its a good game with harsher rng. Harsher rng doesnt mean hard game and you will find optimal strats but youll encounter shitty moments that are not your fault.

Daily reminder that that as long as you keep a vestal + a dedicated destresser in your party at all times it's borderline impossible for any of your characters to die unless you intentionally do something extremely retarded. Actual, pure RNG deaths are so rare they realistically won't ever happen to you even in 200+ missions.
