all of them
almost none of the best games ever made rely on the work of a single person

Kojima

I'd say he was a decent direcctor and a decent producer. But yeah, he only did FF1-5, and he should get credit for starting the series, but 6-7 were the first big huge ones and broke from his standard high fantasy setting. And he didn't really work on those.

Lost Odyssey was the last good JRPG until Persona 5.

this

the closest was probably the tiny dev teams of old rareware or id

tpbp

Kojima

The only people dumb enough to believe he was ever a legend don't understand what a producer is.

To be fair, Lost Odyssey was unironically at least top 3 JRPGs of that gen. I didn't care for Blue Dragon personally, but can see why it had a Dragon Quest-ish charm. Since then though...yeaaaaaah.

Attached: haisys.jpg (569x412, 57K)

>The only people dumb enough to believe he was ever a legend don't understand what a producer is.

ie 95% of the MM fan-base. He was promoted as the MM Guy, and he was the only one doing interviews, so they just attributed everything to him.

Definitely Kojima.

Peter Molyneux.

It's the auteur theory bro

Square's very own Inafune, although his cultists are still very much alive and pretend Mistwalker made anything but trash.

>every dev in the team puts their heart and soul into the game they create
>put in tiny details here and there and check in with the director, hoping they approve
>director takes all sorts of ideas from their team and alters them a bit because they're the "ideas person" and want nobody to have the idea of claiming anything as their own
>game comes out
>everyone praises the director
>the devs that actually made the game get 0 credit
>director leaves company, makes his own game with a small team of inexperienced devs that just finished college
>game is shit

It will happen to them all.

Even Id success was because of team work. Every member was really good at their specific job, take one member out of the team and everything fails or becomes lackluster. And that was the case since Quake 2

*blocks your path*

Cave Story
Undertale
Platypus

Great example of the dumbasses I was referring to.

Toady is the exception that confirms the rule, and his brother still had input on DF either way so it's not really true.

Inafune is not a director.

Only right answer is Kojima

American McGee is a hack. I don't know how many more crap games he has to be behind before people finally admit he might just not be quite as good as that overrated Alice game all those years ago might have led people to believe.

Do you actually think these are some of the best games ever made? Like, objectively?

Can we all agree that Gabe Newell is a fraud now, or do we need a little more time for that? I woinder how long it has to be for Valve to not release any more games before everyone gives up on them.

>company gives you ungodly budget to make an amazing game
>could hire legendary programmers and artists/designers
>wastes it on mo-capping actors that no one really cares about

>Inafune has job as producer for a long time
>Gets credited as if he were a director
>Is made the face of multiple games
>Appears at all the events instead of the directors
>Fucks up with MN9
>All of a sudden people are shouting that he's just a producer and producers don't actually do anything.

>Dragon Ball FighterZ comes out.
>Tomoko Hiroki
>Gets credited as if she were the director when she's just a producer
>Is made the face of Dragon Ball FighterZ
>Appears at all the events instead of the director

So this is okay as long as the games are good? I don't understand.

>Pre-Souls work is whatever
>DeS is unfinished mess
>DS1 second half is unfinished and subpar
>Vanilla BB is unfinished, had to release a dlc to complete the "story"

Kojima

Fuck are you talking about, everyone knew Kotick was evil from the start.

>>could hire legendary programmers and artists/designers
He did hire a bunch of lead programmers, artists and designers from his old team.

>said game Isn’t even being an exclusive anymore
lmao imagine being sony

He's referring to Tim Schaffer or whatever his name was. The Double Fine guy.

He is talking about Schaffer.

Lol, FFIV was the first real big entry in that series and FF didn't get popular until VII. VI wasn't even that popular in Japan.

> Keiji Inafune fraud

imdb.com/name/nm0408345/

ok...

>>Appears at all the events instead of the directors
To be fair it is mainly the producer's job to do PR shit like that, directors are usually busy working on the game. But unlike Inafune good producers usually make it clear that they're not the director.

Doesn't really matter to Sony since they have an iron grip on the game's market and heavily funded this game, they'll be the ones who'll get the most out of Kojimbo's trash.

uhh minecraft?

Cry more, incel. She's living the life and creating comics & games millions of people genually love while you masturbate to hentai on Yea Forums and cry yourself alone at night.

Naoki Yoshida. The man is praised for copying WoW itself and struggles to make a carbon copy of his expansion after doing it 2 times. Honestly if the man who is saving your company is someone who just copied WoW I feel sorry for that whole company as a whole and its playerbase.

Did people forget of the notch work calendar with big ass vacations?
Or all the shit he promised but didnt deliver? ( like buildable ships)

Heck even in minecon he deflected all questions about the game to his staff because he wasnt involved at all in development and its evident now that he has made fuckall games after the buyout

Also calling me a WoW-fag is really all you got don't you? WoW is trash and its clones are even more trash for following it, this includes FFXIV. The man took the game you faggots despise and fed it to you with a FF skin over it and you call it great. This is what EQ fags must have felt like when WoW rolled around.

I don't recall WoW having half as good a story as ShB.

What are you going to attribute Soken's musical prowess to Yoshida as well? Ishikawa and Soken would shine regardless, they don't need a hack who copied WoW.

That doesn't mean one of them doesn't excels the others in a lot of design and planning stages. Take Smash Bros., they have a huge team, but Sakurai inputs and choices is what makes the game. Same with Kid Icarus.

I mean it started with a good game that actually was a better Final Fantasy than XIII trilogy & XV and then we got... uh... The Last Story? You know that forgotten 6/10 game

Attached: file.png (940x527, 1.08M)

Tim Schafer was outed first.

lost odyssey is the last final fantasy and there's nothing anyone can do to convince me otherwise

dwarf fortress

Pixel and ZUN are the only people I can respect as a one-man-army since they actually are

Shit if Yoshida had full reigns of the story in Shadowbringers we would have had another Stormblood where he would hamfist another region like he did with Doma. Remember Stormblood was originally just going to focus on the Ala Mhigan territory till Yoshida decided that he also wanted to resolve the Doman conflict and we all know how the story suffered heavily.

8/8 b8 m8.

Blocked Insect man.

Even though I wouldn't trust Tanaka to do another MMO ever again at least there was something unique about 1.0 and XI. Yoshida really took the most hated MMO design and slapped a skin on it, this MMO really needs someone new.

it's funny that Lost Odyssey is such a low energy "superior to Final Fantasy" from me because I'll repeat myself and say it absolutely was, but the game that blew the fuck out of Final Fantashit came from Square Enix itself.

Attached: file.png (616x353, 590K)

Ur dad who works at nintendo.

It's unfair that Tim Schafer is still in our faces while Inafune has been ostracized. I like Inafune way fucking more than Tim Schafer.

I'm dumb, explain to me what a video game producer does, please.

>Remember how he calls himself THE FATHER OF MEGAMAN in that kikestarter promotional video for MN9

>I like Inafune way fucking more than Tim Schafer.
Why though?

All things considered, MN9 is great. It could've been even better, but it was mismanaged. I'd fight the entire gang of you Inafuna haters over it. The game has charm, the gameplay is good, and the music is undeniably phenomenal.

And to the people who meme about Mighty Gunbolt Burst being "Mighty No9 done right," you all are memeing idiots. I was replaying it recently on my 3DS and while it's a joy to hum to the 8-bit version of the Mighty No9 soundtrack that I'm oh-so familiar with. The game is so shallow, the "create your abilities" system is lame, Beck's dash in MGB feels completely fucking wrong, and the bosses are way less impressive than they were in Mighty No9. It doesn't have the fast paced of Mighty No9, it's just a low effort Megaman clone.

Attached: mn9.png (263x123, 54K)

bait

>All things considered, MN9 is great.
I agree.

He forgot the 4th step.
Don't make your shit based on cooldowns that last forever.

They handle the business side of games. Manage the project and help form a team, secure funding, promote the game etc. They usually have little creative input and are there to help the director and creative talent get the money and resources they need to make the game, and ensure that it's likely to be profitable.

IIRC he relied on the help of some other programmer to get the multiple z-levels working or something like that.

Just imagine Mighty No9 The Sequel. Same engine, same assets for Beck and the main cast, optimized and bugs ironed out and sticking to either JUST pc or JUST ps4 for development so the "needing to develop for every platform"-thing isn't a problem any more. Then explore some more stuff that people wanted, like Beck gaining ReXelections from basic enemies and, perhaps, put in the different Call designs as different characters or costume skins.

Attached: happy.png (1080x1080, 532K)

Sounds like a project manager.

Pretty much

Just imagine a sequel, but instead of being fucking garbage it turns out to be a good game because Inafune parted ways with the project and left it to someone competent

Level5 could easily pull this off but they probably won't even bother. People are too stuck in their memes and no amount of good PR will counter them.

I like how retarded shit stains are replying to this post with 1 or 2 games as if that is disproving this post

so Level5 does own the rights to Mighty No9, right? I wonder how much it's worth to them if some crazy person wanted to buy it from them and make that Mighty No9 sequel.

>so Level5 does own the rights to Mighty No9, right?
I believe so. I don't think the rights would go to IntiCreates.

That's a retarded statement. Of fucking course they don't rely on the work of a single person, but there is always a handful of individuals that have a much greater say than anyone else. Yoko taro games are all weird and distinct because yoko taro probably gets to decide the majority of what happens. If I wanted to praise or criticize yoko taro based on drakengard or nier games it wouldn't be unreasonable to do so because he was probably the individual who had the most say in the creation of those games, and that is both obvious for anyone who understands the concept of directors and leads, or anyone who has played these games and can see the similarities and artistic mark or style of a specific vision.
There are a number of game directors out there who could release a game anonymously with a completely brand new studio of developers, and if you had played their previous games you would most definitely be able to recognize their work.

Not hard to fucking be a top 3 jrpg in the worst console generation FOR jrpgs... fucking idiot.

Game developers usually do rely on a single figurehead to follow. That's why Anthem flopped, because the directors kept leaving. Then there's people like Kojima, who was so anal about his games meeting his vision that he developed his own scripting engine for Snatcher and Policenauts, to rely less on his staff.

Attached: 220px-Hideo_Kojima_20100702_Japan_Expo_1_(cropped).jpg (220x256, 14K)

>Molyneux, Newell, Kojima, Kamiya, Howard, Miyamoto, Sakamoto, Aonuma, Spector, etc. etc.
Basically if any video game director or producer is infamous enough that you know their name it's usually not for a good reason beyond their debut years that made them "legendary".

Pretty much this, you can see someone's true talent or attest of them actually having talent and drive when they switch to completely different teams and still make great games.

Take for example the REAL father of megaman, who made another game (his last) after megaman, sure it was good, but at the same time dared to introduce new mechanics

Like who?

>Unfinished
>Lacking content
Well, that's a publisher issue.

Inafune is literally not a developer. He was just the art guy.

>He still won't talk to us baka gajins because of Yea Forums

Overall is better than MegaFlatMan11.

Yoshida didn't fucking write Shadowbringers, did he?

I think you meant the final final fantasy.

Inafune wasn't a fraud he was just credited for the wrong things. He is businessman not a creative so that's probably why people thought he could head a creative division rather than the production and financial. Look at the way he handled Capcom IPs before he left, give it to the west, they are making more money. That's a very flat and business minded way to look at things, by following the money rather than to think about the creative aspects and how people are perceiving them. The Japanese should listen to the Japanese instead of trying to suck American dick for American dollar.

I don't know who that is.

Speaking of which, when is Megaman 11 coming out? There was a big hullabaloo when it was announced, then a trailer with time shenanigans came out and I've heard nothing since.

>the exception that confirms the rule
What the dick does that mean

300M fraud and still counting

As a fan of MegaMan, i know that Imafune isn't the FATHER OF MEGAMAN, Akira is.
But he left since MM3 was in production and so Imafune was in action.

Remember this guy?

Not sure he was a fraud, but he promised way too much.

This. Kojima just ripped off everything from 80's and 90's movies and threw in le whacky Japanese humor. He's always aspired to be a movie director and been doing that since the PS3 onwards.

Attached: Cannot be defeated.png (817x903, 940K)

Really? It almost like they(Kojima) take the all credit.

Carmack was always soulless, he's just really smart.

Everyone else mentioned knew they were spinning a line of bullshit. Molyneux genuinely believes what he says and tries to make it reality but aims far too high. It's not the same

I mean he simply gave up, right? The last game he worked on has the be Half Life 2 maybe, he wasn't involved in any development since then. It's not like he ever fucked up a game

Gabe is a futurist. He saw the potential in Steam early on, bet all his chips on it, and it paid off. The man has a net worth of nearly 4 billion dollars and doesn't have to do shit.

Molyneux has been making games since the fucking 70s but at some point he realized that tricking retards into thinking he was some innocent dreamer who doesn't know how to use a computer or manage a dev team was easier than making good games. He's completely full of shit

This

You obviously haven't seen his latest interviews where he admits being somewhat of a fraud.

inafune was literally never a legend, he was illicitly boosted during the campaign of mighty number 9 by game journalists.

Dead Rising was great

Jesus Christ shut the fuck up you triggered faggot. No one even knows who that is.

You don't like Dynatron's stage theme? Holy shit, dude. That song is fucking great. You've just baited me into replying to you. I'm trying to think of what song you could say that could remotely make your argument work. The only song that I'm not particularly a fan of is the Mighty No9 rap that plays during the end credits, everything else ranges from good to fucking phenomenal.

The only bad asset is Dr White's afro. If a sequel game did come up that reused many of the character assets, I think Dr White's afro is the one thing that should be remodeled.

Game froze on the first master I fought and I immediately deleted it. I got it for free but I felt like I should’ve been paid

is less forgettable than 90% of the music of MM11

>Game froze on the first master
Which platform were you playing on and do you recall which boss it was exactly? Were you playing on WiiU? I'm fascinated to know how you may've caused the game to freeze. I still need to play through the game on WiiU. I've played through the PS3 version and it has some really bad slowdown.

I know a guaranteed way to make the game crash on PC, and only on PC, but the way you do it is awfully specific and absolutely nobody would manage to trigger the crash in a casual playthrough. In fact, the only people who know about it are me (who discovered it) and the few other people I've shown.

how would you draw this conclusion

Got any links to said interviews? Genuinely curious.

Please stop pretending the game is well made
Anyways, the jet guy on ps4. No shenanigans, the game just softlocked and nothing could be done about it. I wasn’t even surprised, just erased it.

But they did make the best JRPGs of that generation. Reviewers just weren't interested in them because everyone was getting sick of turn based combat.

Avi. That's weird. I've never heard about the game softlocking on Avi's boss fight. I suppose it might be possible to break his AI by weakening him and then dashing into him at a weird spot where he then doesn't know what to do and either lingers off-screen or so high that you can't reach him, but then again I've fight him hundreds of time and have not ever encountered that quirk. Which platform were you playing on? PS3, PS4, Xbone, WiiU, or PC?

I like the game. I like going fast, shooting enemies, and dashing into them.

Attached: latest[1].png (1496x1545, 890K)

It's a fancy way of saying the person who said it is someone who believes there should be needless exceptions to rules simply to justify themselves being right.

me, nevermind on the last question. You said PS4. I have compelling arguments to boldly say that PS4 is actually the best version of the game. I'll try asking one of my friends if he ever softlocked on Avi's boss fight. He's played the PS4 version way more than I have.

The Souls games are only successful because of a combination of herd mentality and marketing. Around the time Demon's Souls came out was when people really started bitching about games being too easy, and a game coming out that was actually quite difficult allowed them to flex their e-penis online and lord over casuals, then it sort of spiralled from there. People became absolutely terrified of daring to criticising the series lest they be labelled a casual(I don't count fanbase infighting as genuine criticism) so everyone just fell in line and sung its praises to high heaven. Everyone ignores the myriad technical issues and overall cheap production values of these games because GIT GUD XD.
Whatever works I guess; the series is worth millions now.

I like the monsters and shit though

She's unironically responsible for the state of the world right now. Amazing to think.

>I like how people are proving me wrong as if that means anything
lmao

Not him, but I disagree. The only tracks in MN9 I really liked were Avi's stage, Brand's stage, the boss theme and the final boss theme. MM11's soundtrack has issues, but I like at least twice as many tunes there, and that's not even counting the Wily Number variants.
Stage Select, Acid Man, Blast Man, Fuse Man, Impact Man, Torch Man, Gear Fortress, Staff Roll, Challenge Results, and especially Light's Trial.

I know you won't believe me, but I spiralled out of control and I've been shitposting on this site for 12 years now. It's not too late for you guys to find success though. Find what you're passionate about and master it to drive yourself forward.
