To be fair, I give the writers serious credit for even having Byleth try at all - spooky wizard dude cockblocking you as many times as necessary isn't perfect, but as a justification for not letting your time powers break the plot I'm willing to go along with it. Most games with gameplay mechanics permitting resurrection of the dead just pretend they don't exist whenever they need to kill off a character, so the attempt is appreciated even if it could be a bit better.

You don't "teach", you do drills. Did you not notice that they changed "faculty training" to "advanced drills"? And all the A supports take place post-timeskip and will reflect that. Even some of the B and C supports will make mention of current post-timeskip events, like whether or not some characters are dead.
