Only good part of the game was Shadow Moses. I really liked how the Crying Wolf fight took place across BOTH of Sniper Wolf's boss arenas.

Big Boss coming back to just die is one of THHE dumbest plot twists ever.

So Kojima kinda wrote himself into a corner with 2, and most of 4 was just like either ignoring that , and the end was mostly 40 minute cutscene trying to tie up all the loose ends of the entire series. Everything was tied up in these last 40 minutes. Instead of you know spread throughout the entire narrative? So Big Boss is the central focus of the MGS series. But he's dead. So to give some sense of closure he comes back. To spout some lines then die. It's so hacknied.

It's more like pretending to be Liquid made the Patriots complacent by treating him the same way they did for Liquid in MGS1 so they didn't make any proper countermeasures against a threat as big as Ocelot himself. Yes, it's dumb.

Honestly I can live with all the dumb twists. My biggest grievance with MGS4 is that it outright abandons the creepy intelligence of the Partriots A.I. that were talking to Raiden by the end of MGS2. MGS4 just makes them a non-threat and the only tangible danger they posed was everyone in the world having ID-tags.

It's pretty impressive how thoroughly they shat on MG 1, MG 2, MGS 1, MGS 2 and MGS 3. No game was spared.

MG 1, MG 2 and MGS 3 are easy. Big Boss returning, acting like the wise old mentor and the codec team from 3 being The Patriots.

As for MGS 2, The Patriots were thoroughly destroyed

And for MGS 1, you have Meryl, Naomi, Campbell and Mei Ling all being ruined

Best part of this game is his finger guns scene. Absolute kino.

Remember the first 2 games where this guy was some cool epic badass and then in 5 he had no personality and just existed to explain the plot

There shouldn't have been the Patriots at all, nor the Philosophers or whatever they were called in MGS3. The twist at the end of MGS2 that they've been dead for decades and there's just an AI left made the whole thing so much better. People fighting and dying for shadows of ideologies that live on artificially fit the theme of the game. And then of course "yeah lol it was real people and you actually know them" just had to ruin it because Kojima can't stay away from his desire for cheap pottery.

This. You start Act 5 and you're like "finally I can play the game again" but it's literally one room before the shitty boss fights start.
MGS4's problem isn't all the cutscenes, it's the fact that all the segments between them are scripted to death.

Same. Honestly, to me, the canon ended with MGS 3.

For me the canon story ended with MGS2 and 3 and PW were just spin-offs. And the whole series for me ended with Peace Walker, the last MGS that wasn't a cringefest movie or a super-serious gritty silent protag shlock.
