Seems reasonable and rational. The guy was even willing to go ahead if the applicant was willing to show some cautionary discretion and keep their personal life private. Not even out of discomfort. It all seems very professional and rational. Applicant was asked if they could do something, applicant couldn't do that, so that was that.
