Druids are great in vanilla.
Their only downside in lowbie content is having no regular rezz spell. If you're bear tanking that doesn't really matter though.

But instead, when I looked at stats from private servers, a higher proportion of characters at level 60 were warriors than 10-59.

the worst streamers are the ones rolling on the same server. sodapoppin, asmon, lirik, summit, shroud etc are the guys with 20k+ viewers with terrible fanbases. all these guys will congregate on the streamer server. this isn't me believing what they're saying, this is just basic logic. they want to be on the streamer server because its where all the tournaments, streamer events etc will happen which is the best content for their stream unless they're a smaller variety streamer who just wants to play the game normally at which point who cares? they're not going to affect the server if they're like that

Hardcore raider who had to organize and run Onyxia in order to get to BRS in order to get to Nax? Doesn't matter, the ACTUAL first greens everyone gets from the first quest of the expansion is better than your stuff and you are reset to how everyone else is.
PVPer? Ditto, your gear is now worthless and that effort you put in to farm it means nothing because 'new players have to have a chance', and everyone is reset to 0.
Casual PVEr? Here's another 50-60 hours you can run through some new terrain and kill some new models to get 5 more macguffin hooves and when you run out of that content, don't worry, there's a few dozen dailies you can farm for reputation in order to get gear that will be useless in the next xpac, or a neat little toy/gadget we'll change the functionality of, or money to buy a mount that will have its priced slash to oblivion in a year anyways.

The model of 'expansions destroy all progress in order to level the playing field for new players regularly' is the absolute dumbest model they could have gone with, and their very first xpac showed that the mindset they'd have going forward was interested in more casualized gaming first for a bigger audience, retention of hardcore loyalists second. If in Classic, they eventually decide to just re-release Burning Crusade again, it will show they are squandering an opportunity to actually CHANGE the reasons why the game was dying in the first place, and want to just relive the same train-wreck to squeeze out the same success they used to have. And that will be the point sane people should drop that shit.

Gear resets aren't so much about equalizing the playing field as they are to deal with the stat inflation. No gear reset and eventually you get to the point where your gear gives you a 100% crit chance and shit. Even within the lifetime of some expansions was this a problem, hence the Sunwell Radiance debuff.

Blanket resets are the laziest and worst way to deal with that, though. In classic especially, the increase of stats between raids was only what, a 10% increase? Slightly more? If you balance it that way, it would take near a dozen raids before they got to a point you are describing. And if the top 0.2% of players who have done THOUSANDS of hours in 8-10 raids getting a 80% crit rating and have double the health of non-raiders in PVE... so what? They can steamroll areas of the open world map then, they earned that, let them have fun. What are they terrified that the economy will be ruined because suddenly some very high geared people have the potential to go farm certain materials easier? That after two years, top PVPers will vastly outclass other people and be able to two-hit gank folk in the open world? Fair play; I am not a game developer, and these aren't incredibly easy questions to answer. But it is shown that when they answered it by wiping progress and rendering everything you did for the past year and a half obsolete, they lost subs and interest the longer things went on of the dedicated fans. And when they didn't have dedicated fans, all they had was the casual audience who wasn't enjoying the main gameplay loop anyways which eventually forced them to turn the entire thing into the damn mobile-game it has turned into now. I don't know HOW they could solve it, but if they don't learn from their mistakes and TRY to solve it somehow and instead just try to repeat the past, the past will repeat and the same shit that went wrong already will just go wrong again.

But this isnt a private server, these are official servers. private servers dont have nearly the amount of blizzard player base. The biggest one was Nostalrius with 800k registered users (not concurrent). In the age when MMOs weren't nearly as main stream and less people had access to a PC and internet, vanilla wow brought in over 5 million paying subscribers in it's first year. 5 million people paid for the game, and paid $15/mo which was a decent amount more valuable back in 05.
I do not think 11 realms will be enough, and I think blizzard will fall into the trap of panic adding more servers on release day.

100% agree with you. The gear reset absolutely annihilates the game. That absolutely can't be allowed to happen again. We all saw what was going to happen last time, called them out on it, they went and did it anyway and exactly what we thought would happen, did happen. Only a tiny percentage of people even put a foot inside Naxx. If they want to do other stuff fine but leave the classic servers classic. It actually won't make a blind bit of difference in the first part of the game. I actually think it's a pretty clever idea and technology.

Imagine back in the day, when we were crashing servers in Southshore/Tarren Mill that instead of BG's being the solution, layering was. What a different future it might have been.

It's not ideal and can ruin immersion but there are limits to concurrent connections in all mmo's and they all deal with them differently. Like Time Dilation in EVE "TiDi" go look it up.

There is a lot of gear in Classic that doesn't get upgrade for a long time in BC. Things like Rejuv gem and Thunderfury, but there are plenty of others. It wasn't until Wrath+ that gear from old expansions started being obsolete, mainly because gear just became the same shit but with higher numbers for higher tiers.

first off, threat management in classic actually matters. every class has specific roles to play. in BFA any class can pretty much do anything. you can invite whoever to your raid because it doesnt matter. try a raid in classic without at least 1 druid, or with no soulstone. pvp isnt nerfed and balanced. people with better gear actually have an advantage. you cant loot tagged mobs, even questing is a competition unless you actually group with people, because unlike BFA, community matters. there i took your bait fuck you
