Gates is easily the darkest and most violent Pokémon game ever made, and that alone makes it more noteworthy than trash like Platinum.

Have you played it? Everyone you meet is a horrible monster and the one good force is actually murdered for real along with all of his followers, while the MC brutally gets the absolute shit kicked out of him in a scene straight out of Casino. It's so bad that the villain wants to destroy the world because everyone in it is so rotten, and the entire rest of your party agrees. Seriously. The characters in a Pokémon game get together to discuss if the world is even worth saving, and conclude that it isn't.

Persona 3's endgame is like the get-along gang compared to Gates. I love it.

It's a million times more hardcore than the mainline. Monsters giving you toxic and eating your revive seeds and floors where you can't heal; it's brutal.

BW is a great game. But B2W2 improves on it so much. I originally didn't play BW and went right in to B2W2. You can play whatever you want first.

just so youre aware, in case you arent: red and blue US releases are based off JP blue, which was revised from the initial red/green release. they can be seen as completely separate entries despite being basically the same thing
as such i would put them higher but they have glaring flaws like the us counterparts, but because they have a more unique take i put them higher. they FEEL different despite this

Also X/Y came out when Pokémon was in a good place. The 3D novelty hadn't worn out and the anime delivered the best season, while the manga got pretty interesting too. To me X/Y will always be the last glimmer of brilliance before the death of Pokémon.
