The amount of challenge runs that exist for 10 and the fact that they're actually possible is amazing. I use the crater trick. Still time consuming but at least its consistent

FF1 on the NES was one of my first games. I'd come to expect certain things from the series. And I felt that FFX dropped a bunch of that shit and replaced it with corridors terrible voice acting and characters I dislike thoroughly.

Combat was good, music was a few bangers with mostly below average for the series. And I'll never forget how sad I was when I saw that the airship was a fucking menu. I thought the game was finally about to open up.

How's X-2 in terms of cutscenes and the usage of cutscene models, are there a lot like in the original game or is it just a few because it's a budget game? Considering getting the remasters just for the international version of X-2.

You can skip cutscenes but in doing so you miss out on completing the game.

I don't remember anything except the cringy beginning and the confusing end, but I do know I enjoyed the gameplay.

X-2's visuals are fucked up just like X is. I don't think it's worth it personally but there isn't a translated International version as far as I'm aware so it's up to you.

My question was more about if they use cutscene models a lot or if they rely on gameplay models, which are better remastered.

I started my first playthrough on the PS4 version last year, snagged a copy on the PS2 later, and I think I'll finish it on the PS4 since I'm further along and I won't have a CRT to use soon. I feel like Yea Forums always exaggerates when it comes to these botched remasters, but what they did to Tidus and Yuna's faces is terrible, and Lulu's bust line is so poorly modeled you can't help but wonder how it made it to store shelves. That said, I tend to think more about the backgrounds than the characters, and wonder if a certain area would look better in the PS2 version. Do you guys think so? A few areas (like the intro swimming section at Besaid) looked splendid to me, but other areas are weird at times.

It had some game-breaking glitches for a while until they were patched. Also I liked a few of the recolours.

No one is exaggerating, you're probably trying to imply we're saying such games are unplayable when we're not.

FFX's remaster is bad because it removes hand place lighting and shadowing in cutscenes, it butchers the character models in cutscenes, the rigging on said models is awful so all of the animations in cutscenes are awful, the new music is really quite bad, and the environment textures are universally inconsistent and therefore worse than the original game's. It's a soulless low budget remake that's being sold as a remaster.

Is it playable? Sure. It is worse than the PS2 version? Yes.

Man, that’s jarring as hell.

In addition to the original voice actors delivering a superior performance and the voices themselves being much more pleasant sounding and much more fitting for the characters, the original dialogue is also sometimes different from the English dialogue. This becomes obvious when you know listen to what they're saying in Japanese and reading the English text. That text is word-for-word the same as the Eng dub, so in effect you can compare on the fly the differences. My Japanese skills are only from what I've heard from anime, but that's enough to notice that there are often huge differences between what is said and what the Eng translation says.

Tidus says "nanka aru no ka" or whatever which means "Is there something there?" but the English just says "Huh?"

And so on. Sometimes the differences are important.

Fair enough. I suppose the conflict is that, while I like how much of the game translates to HD and makes it really nice, the amount of content either changed for the worse or outright removed definitely makes it inferior.

Anyways, as someone new to the game, what takes me out of the game most isn't the visuals, but the stiff voice work and scene direction. When I see people saying that FF died with 10, it seems natural to me this is partly due to the weird VA here, and how the game can't really pull on your emotions since Tidus isn't like a real person at all. This is probably an old complaint, but I've felt it pretty strongly.

It's a game whose colour palette shines heavily on a CRT/PS2 thanks to the interwoven mesh of rendering on the screen
it looks much more vibrant and fantastic on even shitty TV's because it's much brighter and the lower-res textures mesh together much more well and it feels way more immersive/comfy and really gives you a feel for some areas
Besaid feels wonderful and Spira is genuinely comfy

That aspect is a bit better with the nuanced animations of the original but yeah some people didn't like much about FFX. Personally I think FF died with 11/12 since 10 was still a really good game despite ditching the world map and cool vehicles. It had a nice end game and a decent story.

That scene is a good example of hand placed lighting being gone in the remaster. Take note of Wakka's face here. It's one of the first things I noticed when examining the HD remaster after some user told me it was shit.

I listened to the first one and it sounds pretty bad
Besaid in the HD version was really nice, Luca too. The darker areas though like Guadosalam don't fit however, the colors aren't meshing to give that moody and mystical vibe the area is meant to have.
The saturation is a bit much, but it's not too bad. I don't know how they screwed up the faces so hard though.

I'm torn between emulating and exchanging my save between PCSX2 and real PS2 or just buying the HD Remaster.
I'm emulating 12 right now but can't play on the ps2 because the disk is fucked so I freezes after the memory card thing after Square's logo. Plus the HD Remaster of 12 looks bloated as fuck since a GTX 660 Ti is the minimum which funnily enough is what I have and am using to emulate(pic related)

You won’t get far. Might as well grind. Took about 100 hours to get to Penance for me. But I did literally everything else.

FFX's battle system is peak turned based IMO. No one has done a better job since. It's lean, simple, and the active turn indicator in the corner should be a mandatory addition to any turn based game. Switching characters and equipment on the fly too.
