Have they fleshed out the factions/civilizations at all? There was just something horribly depressing (not in a bleak atmospheric alone in space kind of way, just an unfun kind of way) about every planet being a simple resource farm with nothing but a couple of ship docking areas and various ruins to account for any type of "settlement" at every point in time.

the problem with NMS is though that the creatures look all the same. right now if you boot up NEXT and go into ocean you will see the exact same shit . Jelly fish swimming in a school. tirangular fish swimmin in a school. iccasionally a bigger fish swiming alone. and coral and rocks and those new things they added in ABYSS. game is still shit

Theres an experimental tesselation option hidden in some .ini on the PC version.

The thing you non-VR users don't understand is that posting images or watching webms/trailers of VR games does not do it any fucking justice.
none of those show the sense of scale like actually being in the headset does. and also at the same time, VR looks blurry as all fuck (PSVR for me at least) so these images will not look this crisp in game unless you're the bystander watching someone play it by looking at the screen.
