Danganronpa games are a bit of everything-jack of all mechanics but master of none. They have mechanics of VNs, FPS, Ace attorney-esque investigations and trials, word games and other random bullshit.
Also, youre better off pirating them, these are games you can only play once

It has VN portions but mostly you're walking around 3D environment looking around clues for class trials solving murders Phoenix Wright style with several types of minigames.

They are similar in idea to Ace Attorney.
Essentially, the cast is trapped in a scenario where the only way to get out is to commit murder and not get caught. Each time a murder happens, you have to find clues and evidence. Then after collecting all of it, you go to trial and debate with the other students over who did it. It's gameplay in the trial is different from ace attorney, as it relies a lot more on minigames and whatnot.
However, the idea is the same at the core. Find out who really did it, get them proven guilty. Between trials you mainly just advance the plot and get additional story on your characters of choice.
The games also got a little more ridiculous after the first one, which was already pretty out there.

It has amazing music and some good character designs, but the actual trials are all horrible where you'd have to be a mouth breathing retard to not instantly know who killed who and all the characters are shallow archetypes. The gameplay itself is mediocre. What makes the game great is the dialogue, especially if you really like Toko and Cumaru. Their banter is amazing and the game rewards exploration by giving you even more dialog between them. It also has a wild ride of an story and tons of additions to the Danganronpa lore/setting. Music is great too.

Danganronpa 3, an anime only experience split into 4 different arcs, the main ones are Future (12 episodes) and Despair (11 episodes), start Future ep1 then alternate to Despair ep1 (the episodes were also originally aired this way so this isn’t some crackhead shit) and continue doing that until future ep12, now this already seems long but there’s more to DR3, two final arcs, Danganronpa 2.5 acts as an episode 12 to Despair side and then Hope is a conclusion to everything you’ve gone through so far. wow that was a lot.
and then finally, Danganronpa V3 Killing Harmony, probably the final entry in the series but it’s an overall conclusion to a lot of things, don’t think many questions were left unanswered

It's obvious the DR2 cast was supposed to each have their own way they were coaxed into despair, like the anime nerd did in the anime. They all had their own semi-tragic backstories to be exploited. It's clear they were supposed to lose to Junko one at a time. But instead they went with GROUP HYPNOSIS, probably due to the constraints of having to fit it all into an anime with a fixed number of episodes. If they followed that route instead of the swirling spiral hypnosis bullshit, the Despair arc would've been great. I wish they had just made a game about that instead of an anime and then V3. Why did they even bother making V3?

Teruteru was by far the best Chapter 1 culprit, though. Leon is barely a character and completely overshadowed by the girl he killed, and Kaede relies mostly on the shock of the protagonist twist.

On the surface she's very forward which guys like. But if pushed she's actually very vulnerable which guys also like. She's basically the opposite of Mikan.

Despair arc is worse because it dinndus the sdr2 cast from being mass murdering psychopaths, waking them all up and acting like they are okay with half of them attempted to or outright killed each other. Even though the game makes a point that the shutdown sequence would have severe repercussions and make them not remember the simulation at all and and keep the brain dead kids braindead, effectively making none of the events from dr2 as if they never happened. It also reduces Junko's effectiveness as a villain and just handwaves every of her missdeeds as her just making them watch a brainwashing video instead of recruiting the SHSL Despairs one by one by playing on their insecurities and weaknesses.

That's the correct choice to take because the anime is trash.

Danganronpa 2 ends on a really positive note, I think Byakuya is the one who says something like "if it's them, I think they can do it" and you have fucking Izuru working to save them. It's obvious that they are all gonna wake up.... And that's what happens in 3 anyway so there's no much room for doubt.

You are completely wrong. This is 100% backwards. The point of DR2's setting was to erase their crimes and turn them back into pre-junko versions of themselves. DR2's entire plot was centered around turning them into dindus. Meanwhile, in the anime, they actually accept responsibility for their actions.

I already did. It's stated that the survivors are working to save them and Byakuya acknowledges he thinks they can do it. It's meant to be an open ending. At least it was until DR3 fully saved them.
