Return of the King
If you talk about non-LotR vidya then Dragon's Dogma comes close I guess.

Mount and Blade

World of Warcraft

/thread

this but unironically

its this or baldur's gate

Warcraft 3
kys

Id assume the question to be, what is the perfect trilogy?
Cant think of one.

Halo Trilogy us the closest thing.

>All 3 original games received universal acclaim
>All 3 are objectively good and well made
>All 3 games were defining titles and pop culture hits

Same as LOTR.
Im sure there's better trilogies out there but in terms of impact and scale they're the closest

It's Ocarina of Time
>medieval fantasy hero's journey story
>is a follow-up to a previous work but largely stands on it's own
>made for a primarily adolescent audience who were children when they experienced the previous work, but appeals to all ages
>is critically and commercially acclaimed, massively influencial both in and out of it's genre and medium, and has let to innumerable follow ups of wildly varying kind and quality
I don't even care much for OoT, but as far as the metatextual stuff goes the parallels are striking. They aren't that similar in plot and scale though, aside from the basic bitch hero's journey stuff, so if that's what you care about then whatever I guess, eat my ass

Mass effect

Dungeon Siege

Bloodborne

Halo

Halo 1 is the best
Halo 2 adds some cool stuff but is inferior
Halo 3 is just a bunch of shooting and the story carries it to the end

And all the shit that comes after isn't even worth it and was made for soulless profit.

Romancing SaGa gave me Tolkien vibes

Wouldn't it be the Ultima games in how influential they were for fantasy games? Or is that more DnD video games?

Lotro

not anymore with all the OC they're starting to pump into it

fpbp

I'd say vanilla lotro but I fucking love MoM

Such as?

Tolkien hates trannies though and didn't think niggers/orcs were "noble savages"

Tolkien also didn't equate orcs with black people

The books are actually kind of boring

There, i said it

this and King Kong is still the two best movie video games ever. Prove me wrong

No but he did equate them with mongols.

Riddick counts?

>objectively good and well made
lol the films were shite

I don't think any game series has been good enough to be given that title yet

Christopher Tolkien was right, they're dumbed down action movies for children.

Halo. It was made to show americans it is a very cool activity to die for a concept of nationalism too.

This piece of shit ruined my birthday. How can a box art so cool hold a game so god damn awful?

What do you expect them to do after they finished the books? Well I mean they could close it since nobody plays it. I highly doubt a game with a playerbase that small is making a profit

Warcraft 3
Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne
World of Warcraft in 2004-2006

Third Age

Does a game exist with an amount of content as large as Ancalagon the Black?

Now we get some absolute zoomer who wasnt alive when doom or quake came out telling us all about how Halo was shit and only popular because console kiddies or something.

Baldur's Gate 1+2+Throne of Baal

Legend of Zelda comes close

Games for this feel?
youtube.com/watch?v=EOA1wBw_Jt4

>best fantasy of its genre
Legend of Zelda

look at the date of the post

Thank you for finally showing me the words to put to my hatred of those games.

Weird way to type Morrowind.

I like Morrowind but to call it the best fantasy vidya is laughable

For the feel of battle I'd say Mount & Blade.
For the feel of finality/hope/whateverthefuck I'd say Mass Effect 3 but that's a fucking stupid answer.

Kingdom under Fire: Heroes

I remember enjoying this as a kid.

LOTR Two Towers video game.

God I miss this game. And the second one. But no one ever talks about it.

Wish they would port the two towers, rotk and third age.
