Happy wheels went to shit extremely quickly.
Zero quality control flooding the site and the quality levels were surprisingly low. In fact nobody gave a shit about happy wheels after the boom, LPers just used it as a background to tell 9yo kids whatever daily story they had for episode #4215.

Games were still cheap enough to make that relatively small teams could make them, which meant more developers and therefore more games. There were a lot of really good AA games, unlike today's AAA/indie dichotomy. Things also weren't as consolidated as they are now, where we have a few massive publishers controlling the entire industry.

Games weren't all trying to be blockbusters that sell a billion copies. They were content to do well in their niche.

Since they didn't feel the need to make every game appeal to everyone, they had much more creative freedom.

It felt like developers were only concerned with making good games, rather than maximizing profits or pushing social agendas.

Developers, publishers, and game journalists were not hostile toward gamers.

Why is Fortnite so soulless.
