Epic does not have DRM, developer can add DRM but it's optional, compared to always non Steam DRM. (That's the reason why you dont need to start EGS for some games after installation.)

Epic is DRM free on box, Steam has always on DRM, the difference is that you need to shut down steam DRM as a developer compared to Epic where you actually need to add DRM or it's DRM free. That's the reason why nobody really bothers with DRM free games on steam, using man power to deactivate DRM is not really good for the business.
