Really only one or two games before Skyward Sword have anything to say on that front (the biggest one I can think of being, well, Spirit Tracks, which itself retroactively implies Wind Waker's Link and Tetra had some further connection) and lots of games after Skyward Sword push it. Link and Zelda having any fated connection or romance is on a game-by-game basis and then becomes a plot-point with Spirit of the Hero and muh goddess blood.
