Doom 2's level design is way too open and aimless, and most of the new enemies are an absolute mess of frustration except for maybe the pain elemental

All I think of when remembering Doom 1 is solid action and great level flow. It's very easy, but its nice to relax sometimes.
All I think of when remembering Doom 2 is gimmick crap and overly convoluted mazes. User maps are where the new enemies really shine.

Blood is shit for the reason that it's not fun. All the guns hit like nerf guns, except for i guess the napalm launcher? The dynamite is alright but not really ideal. I'd rather just have a shitton of rockets like in plutonia. Then there's the enemies. They do a great amount of damage, that's great. But you're not given a really good way to deal with them on the fly. You need to memorize the map like a racetrack. That's not fun. In Dook, you can muscle through nearly any level, shadow warrior to a lesser extent as SW really pours it on in some sections, but if you have the reflexes, it's all you. In blood, there's some sections where you literally can't progress unless you're tossing dynamite because you already know what to expect. This is lousy design. American McGee is a hack.

Chaingunners are a great addition to the game, Pain Elementals and Arch-Viles are also pretty good as they force you to mix up your target prioritization. But all of it is if, IF, they're used correctly. You know what doesn't use them correctly? Plutonia.

Are you high? Doom introduces 80% of the weapons in the first 3 levels or so, then only adds the plasma and bfg later. Both of those guns are just superior versions of 2 previous guns, the chain gun and rocket launcher. As for movement mechanics, what is introduced that you dont learn via secrets in episode 1?

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one on this board who didn't really like D44M at all. The level design was garbage 'hallway - arena - repeat' and I hated literally every single thing about glory kills. On top of that, it just felt so sluggish.

The whole time it felt like they were forcing you to play a specific way and make you have a certain experience whether you wanted to or not. Granted, I'd still call it better than 3, but I don't understand people treating it like the second coming.

There's more to level design than the actual map itself. Item layout was garbage because it focused cutscene kills to replenish ammo. Mantling slowed fucking everything down and was completely unnecessary when you could have just made him jump higher and not kill the pace.

Hallway to arena is a shitty design especially when the arena locks you in until you kill everything. Why even have maps at that point and not just make it killing floor style survival waves? IF you're trying to change my mind, you should try articulating actual points.

you don't know about the classic levels? They hid a bunch of levers in each of the D44M levels that you have to pull, and it opens a secret door that leads to a snippet of a classic level, usually with an armor pickup in it, then you can play through an entire classic level from the main menu.

They don't always work though, as i said, pinkies are kind of unstoppable in some sections.

Also, that market doesn’t give a shit about map progression or gameplay, just waves upon waves of things to kill and how good it looks; even on ‘classic’ Brutal Doom just blatantly breaks the game.

It’s literally there so gamepad players don’t get too disoriented with platforming; imagine getting rid of a ledge grab to have double-jump from the get-go, with map design more catered towards it.

One specific point in the arena refills all your ammo, meaning that you need to wait until your ammo is almost empty to not waste it all. It's not an exaggeration. I told you I only played about two hours in. When I got the cutscene machine chainsaw, I quit and refunded. Literally that entire time was "walk twenty feet down a hallway with a few jumps to make it seem more open ended and then find a big open room that locks you in until you kill everything."

Not only is that the only 'cutscene' but it is not a cutscene at all since you can still do other things while it's happening. How are you failing to understand this so hard?

What a nigger. That level isn't much different from what OG Doom had. It has some shorcuts between areas as you progress through the level, nice secrets and optional areas with goodies.
