It's more than cutscenes, bro. AC3JP has branching story paths and six endings. AC3US has a linear mission setup. They're radically different. I'm sure /aceg/ has some kind of step-by-step guide you can follow for patching.

There are also like 15-20 more missions all together so you are missing out on gameplay. Just a pro tip if you do play emulated jp version don't read the codex entries for general resources or neucom as it soft locks the game.

GT4 is a really good game, even today. However the only thing keeping it good today is the 'campaign'. Really, later games from Forza, GT, etc did everything better and not a single thing GT4 does is as good. GT4s campaign is really something other games get really wrong.
How much I like GT4 back then and how I know I would hate the fuck out of where it lacks is why I won't ever go back and play it again, even my old save.

Probably the best game in the series. Be prepared for a LOT of work if you intend to get anywhere near 100%. If you want to 100% entirely then read up on how to do it because if you do the driving missions or some other things in non-numerical order it bugs it out.
Pretty easy to grind money on it though so you'll never get stuck so just throw yourself into the career mode without worrying too much about your starter cars.

I'm so sorry user, get the patched JP version and enjoy those amazing cutscenes by the same dude that'd end up doing Patlabor 2 movie which includes a homage to AC3, the Wyvern, while also playing a great intense track during the scene. I also loved how you could make save for each route branch, save, go back to the branch point and the game would keep track of whatever ending you got before. Not even fucking SMT IV has this great idea so you have to play THE WHOLE FUCKING THINGSDGSADG

That's what I do, stick the disc in my PS1 and I start playing. I'd estimate 75% of my PS1 library is Japanese you don't need patches to play them, just pick up a Jap PS1 and you're golden

their boxed selection is pretty small, there's maybe 2 shelves that are about 10 foot long and 7 foot tall of disc stuff PS1 all the way to PS4.

Good thing the sequels massively toned down the anime stuff then. Ironically, the developers themselves agree with you.
I don't like that they removed stuff but it's a perfectly fine version if all you want is the gameplay.

Oh yeah, the profile system. That was a huge timesaver, and it only needs one memcard block.
Even if you fail to have a save for a branch handy, you can load the profile and pick 'new' to start from mission 1 but with all your previous endings and ranks maintained.
Or have it modded. It's pretty easy to bypass PS1 region lock.
I played AC3 on a CFW PS3 with an usb flightstick. Felt great.
