As a serpentine egoist, I believe that the highest role a non-reptile can serve is as prey for a hungry snake (other reptiles can serve this role to a lesser extent).
Understandably, my philosophy has yet to gain traction. Hopefully a game wherein you play as a reptile eating everything / everyone (or an assistant to such an entity) will come into prominence.

Characters added to Smash get a fucking massive boost in current interest, though. There's absolutely no denying that. Earthbound owes pretty much all of its current popularity to Smash, for example.

It's different in case of K. Rool. Ice Climbers and Duck Hunt are dead franchises, while K. Rool's is still alive and well. Having him appear in game like Smash after such a long absence means he might appear again in his series, especially since Nintendo realized how much people love him.

Only thing that irks me is that his costumes are lackluster. They went with a hybrid of his old design and slightly newer one, which kinda bothers me. If it were me I would of had done it like Hero

I think they could've made Kaptain work, just replace the crown with the hat, but his disguises probably weren't included because you couldn't see how cracked his armor is.
That said, you're right, his alts are shitty. Outside of the standard green the only good ones are yellow and white.
