Honestly, yes.
If anything, I think the whole spiel of PS5 being this 'more exclusive' console is just a bunch of people trying to talk it up - it'll more likely try to be a better console on launch than the PS3 and PS4 were, with more games and better releases.
Both the director and several of the games artists have been interested in getting together to make another, and they did a really fucking good job. Many of them have been around forever, and all the director has to say is that he wants to make another one and he'll probably get the greenlight - he fucking made Silent Hill, and people still harp on older games all the time, so there's little reason to skip over it.
It'll definitely come, but a lot of people treat it as a franchise that'll be slept on for 5-10 years before it gets another sequel out of pity.
I really don't think it will, but there's still more to do. Exploring a slightly-upgraded town or the new lands we have towards the end of 2 will allow for making much more content due to the interconnectedness of what's occurred (no spoilers) and there's enough baseline content there to make something out of it.
It doesn't have to be a big as fuck game like 2, but it doesn't have to be as locked-down as 1.
There's definitely a probability of it happening, especially since it'll always be in the minds of the creators - they really loved making it.
Plus, the movesystem is great, and a reason to keep gyro in.

I loved the first game to death, but the second one was nothing short of insulting to my gamimg sensibilities. It fell flat on its face with Jupiter Style and sending you back to hekseville. Felt like an unfun chore, and if the devs don't even want you to have fun, their series deserves to die. It certainly wont get no sympathy from me.

Because the game shines heavily the more you play it.
It's not about just doing shit, it relies vastly on you exploring and dicking around.
Flying around, sliding around, literally just exploring and dicking about doing what you want and relaxing. It's got the content for a game - sure - but it's similar to PSO in that you can pretty much just drop in to dick around for 20 minutes and relax with menial objectives or just collecting things and then stop. The extra styles in 2 also help a lot because they make wandering about more fun.
