you want to look for one song that sounds really dominant and then another that has the same pacing but isn't going to overtake the main melody of the first. having the intstruments be mostly the same will also seriously help like tried

How much musical knowledge do you have?
Generally songs with the same BPM will go together nicely. It also helps if they're in roughly the same or complimentary keys.

With that said, practice and trial/error are the best ways to improve. I can't speak for everyone in this thread but for every good sounding mix I post I've tried 3-5 shitty ones first.
