i think DR1 sucked but i liked the concept enough to give DR2 a try on the hope they fixed it. IMO, DR2 is one of the most improved sequels vs. the original of any game.

Motives were absolute trash, game tries to dinndu each murder unlike the first game where it goes to lengths to show how people succumb to do bad things. Atmosphere is worse in general, the cast tires to have too many parties and there is hardly any tension of being in a killing game (aside from Komaeda and Fuyuhiko, but the latter ends at chapter 2), and the tropical setting doesn't help, the claustrophobic school setting in dr1 handled it better. Worse mini games across the board aside from non stop debate, a bunch of red herrings that don't amount to anything, and the huge excessive plot dump in chapter 6 give that chapter really bad pacing.

Most of the stuff you get from hanging out with people is largely unnecessary unless you're really bad at the trial minigames.
It's not like Persona or whatever where you actually get huge boosts from hanging out with people

I didn't understand how the relationship system worked until the sequel.
Spend your time as you see fit, there is a mode after you have beaten the game in which you can fulfill all relationships in peace.

Try to focus on one of them to unlock their skill before they die. Other than that just do what you want, you can even clear the trials easily without skills.
Personally I just went to bed in all three games when I had FTE.

I enjoyed the story, characters and soundtrack a lot, but I wouldn't enthusiastically recommend actually playing it, there's tons of moments where you'll swear you hit the sweet spot only for the game to say you missed the enemy entirely, and the arcades puzzles don't always behave as they should even when you do as you're expected to. Play with patience if you're going to actually play it, otherwise look up a longplay.

There's nothing wrong with wanting it, but it's not possible. You can't be faithful to both the text and the spirit of the game. For instance, you can't translate Ooba Kaoru into English and maintain the "oba" (old lady) and "ooba ka" (idiot) puns. Her name would just be Oba Kaoru to English speakers. You lose everything the name means. You can't just name her "Idiot Old Lady" either. They did their best to do what THEY thought was faithful to the playfulness of the original game, which is part of its art. Art that would be totally, completely, 100% lost with your idea of a "faithful translation".

This. 428 is great and $10 is a steal. The one way heroics game is also ok for $1. The original one way heroics with plus dlc is a much better game though.

It's hilariously awful from what I played. Managed to get an ending from the first decision like 5 minutes into the game, then gave all the teams one go around and that was alright. Then I did the thing for C-team that ended with Akane getting a chainsaw and it was so laughably bad that I couldn't keep playing. Only give it a shot if you really REALLY need to know how bad it can really be

Presentation is completely awful. Story is meh from what a I played. The revised character designs paired with the awful cutscene shit bothered me so much I never finished it. Let this be a lesson to not try and copy tell tale when your game is coming out on the fucking 3ds.

I'm not a big hiyoko fan but I agree with you about everything else

It's pretty jank but people make it sound way worse than it is, it's just okay. The strength of the game is in the writing and atmosphere by far, the enemies you fight are just obstacles to the next cutscene or worldbuilding note around the corner.

I don't actually have a big problem with that name stuff, I mean I love my Cumaru too and I'm too accustomed to the AA names to dislike them. But saying that changing the location to USA was a good idea is just wrong, we're getting all these new AA titles full of Japanese shit and they dont even know how to justify it anymore. I mean, nothing stopped them from having english puns to keep the "spirit" of the names and also make the story take place in Japan, since no one is actually named Edgewoth irl. If I was a moralfag I would say it was a bit disrespectful too.
