Do you guys just wear whatever happens to have good abilities? Or do you go for aesthetics with your clothing and weapons?
Right now I'm into the idea of going all kensa with my outfit. Not sure why this development is so recent for me since Kensa stuff has been out for years. But just now am I really liking the colour blocking and the monochrome b/w stuff.
I try to do both. Sometimes I wear mismatching gear for abilities, though.
I stack abilities to what I need. A year ago, I did go for aesthetics, but then I began farming drinks, ability chunks and buying and catering certain gear to try to match it all for both.
True, I guess my enjoyment of the aesthetic gear really just started due to a combination of getting lucky when ordering gear from Murch and using my own chunks.
I guess these threads don't last long when people don't post pics of squids...
I just went through the octo expansion and I loved it all. It was a blast going through all of those levels. I made sure to complete all 80 stations before I collected all of the thangs.
Now I have the bonus stuff to do in the deepsea metro. I almost beat inner agent 3 on my first try, getting her to stage 5 or something like that -- not sure how close I was to the end of the fight thooo (she was on the platform shooting stingray). And I noticed a few of the other levels have markers on them now.
What are some good ways to get replayability out of the stations?
I'm trying to build a meme set that has 3 pure swim speeds. I have the grizzco gear flippers and life jacket with swim speed up. Does anyone know of a swim speed headgear that goes with those?
In the beginning, I only cared about what the gear looked like and if it had some cool abilities. 800+ hours later and deep into S+8 and higher, I don't care anymore. I need abilities to help my ink recovery, bomb recovery, etc at all cost. I never liked the look some of the headbands in the game, but I got lucky with a few abilities on it and decided to max it out for ink recovery. Also, after awhile, I don't care about the looks of the squids anymore. Just winning.
A lot of people don't like the monochrome gear and think it's boring. I think it works pretty well.
3 pure swim speeds is overkill. Remember, gear abilities have diminishing returns.
I know about diminishing returns. The point is to make someone react when you splat them.
I think a pure of RSU to go alongside with two pures of SSU would work just as well in that regard and be more beneficial for you.
i do both, i normally stack abilities to the point of pure gear, or close to it so its easy for me to switch outfits. heres a commission of my current inkling
i just go with what i think looks good, i dont really try to farm for chunks to pure abilities or anything like that
play the levels with the different weapons to effectively 888% it, as you would 1000% hero mode, and its more fun since the levels were actually built with the weapons in mind. be careful though, some are a fuckin nightmare

I don't take meme gear into ranked. The more jank sets I use, such as stacking ink saver sub to throw two suction bombs, are used for turf war and private lobbies.
Also I main Rollers so RSU is near useless.

Dunno about gear sets. It can be fucking crazy in the right hands, but you're trading ultimate power for ultimate vulnerability basically. Horizontal swings > Vertical swings excepts when they're out of range for vertical. The usual roller playbook of being somewhere unexpected is good.
Toni Kensa is a good kit for it. The lack of bombs will force you to learn the main and Booyah bomb is a fantastic special, especially since I think you can cancel a swing into it. Gold is a good allrounder that's very easy to use. Only use Silver if you're comfortable with stingray. The downside of being incredibly powerful is that you also have to be incredibly cautious. If you want to charge in and fuck shit up Splat Roller is better for you.
It's nice that the gear abilities in splatoon 2 are all pretty much good. To the point that you'll generally get good gear just by virtue of the random rolls, even if nothing is pure. It lets you just go for pure aesthetics if you want, which is dope.
Of course, the ultimate is having aesthetic and pure gear.

Sometimes I'll get lucky with the random rolls in game. And other times I've been extremely lucky when buying ordered gear from Murch. At times getting 1 main + 2 subs identical from him. In which case I get spoiled.
What's wrong with only swinging? I thought rolling with the dynamo is generally not advised due to the slow rate of walking?
And I really only enjoy rushing the team and getting kills and pushing the objective after/aiding the team in pushing the objective. I pretty much fit the slayer roll really well.
Despite this, dynamo seems to be calling me.

They buffed rolling a lot so it takes way less ink. It's more efficient for inking but rolling against players is only good if you know they're gonna back up into you or you're in a close up clusterfuck. You can try both easy, worst that happens is you don't like it.
its more me saying that from personal experience, no one actually uses rollers to ROLL anymore, and swinging wildly with a roller kisses all your ink in the tank goodbye, and rolling takes less ink as said

Swinging wildly is okay sometimes, with horizontal swings you can sometimes win out even in a shitty situation where both you and the enemy are retards with bad aim trying to kill each other faster. Good rollers spend a lot of time camping in tight areas, so you shouldn't have to worry about ink much because if you get into an extended firefight you're pretty much already dead. A good roller only needs one swing to end the fight.

e-liter and kensa charger, no scopes. also love all the dapple kits. bamboozlers are fun. only rollers i use are kensa and foil flinza. splooshes and splashes are good af, but can be a bit boring / annoying.
n-zaps drive me nuts, so do all squelchers, especially the fucking duelies. aerosprays are gay af. also splattershot jr.s. those dynamo rollers can be a pain, but not if im using a charger so much

roller, especially dynamo with MPU. the jump shot with the stupid-long startup and massive distance is fun as hell to land.
there's a group of high-DPS weapons that kill you in like 2 fuckin hits for some reason, pair that with the game's shoddy netcode and you get something REALLY infuriating to go up against, especially to what is essentially a melee weapon.

Around the final splatfest, I was able to go on a large win streak and get well into the 200s.
But since then I've been on a massive losing streak, sometimes not even getting out of the first round... Whereas my losses would normally occur during round 3, if at all.
I'm obviously to blame. But I just can't seem to get a good team together for the past few rounds.

The "servers" are bad, the tickrate is bad, you have no say about which game mode you want to play in ranked, turf war is shit, the weapons are incredibly unbalanced to the point of having a lot of gun that are nowhere to be seen online ( and you can't blame the players for not wanting to use them ), and it get stale really quickly. After a few ranked matches and salmon runs you can stop playing for the day.
It's still great for a console tps thanks to gyro, but meh.

I only recently turned it on, played 1, 2, and the OE with just the stick. Rail levels weren't any worse than that Super Mario Sunshine rollercoaster level. I didn't think the pin was that hard either, but maybe I got lucky.

You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't, user. If you try to rush to midpoint to establish a foothold, none of your fucking teammates help out and you get demolished 4 to 1. If you stay behind a little to fill your special gauge and get turf, your stupid teammates all scatter in 3 different directs and all get themselves killed.
In that case, ink your spawn, but don't waste too much time on it. get it done about halfway and then engage at mid. of course, this all depends on whether or not you and your team are on the same page. Besides, turf is seldom taken seriously.

I was always inclined towards Callie. Great smile, infectious carefree attitude and the more personal Splatfests choices to me line up with her choices.
When I came to S2 and experienced how the community, and to an extent, how the developers treated such a character then it gave me a strong feeling of injustice and increased my affinity tenfold. Eventually everything I did in and around the game was in service of Callie to some extent. Some of you are familiar I'm sure. I only originally came to play a simple kid's game because I felt like I had missed out on the zeitgeist by not involving myself in the S1 community at all.
It's to the point where if Callie isn't involved in S3 or if I (again) don't like what they've done with her then I can see myself dropping the franchise. In spite of everything there's been a lot of positivity, but there's also been a mountain of unwarranted negativity and stress, and if somebody told me I would have been better off never touching S2 and using all that time and energy on something else then I would have a hard time outright disagreeing. Even if I think that it's a fun game, I just can't trudge through that swamp again just to have the audacity to play a kid's game and want to appreciate and see such nice character in an appropriate way.

Why not just get the game anyway and ignore the community? Because at this point I'm too ingrained in it to turn back and the community is the only reason I have 2200 hours in it currently and bothered to git gud. I would also know full well what's going on either way because I'm so familiar with the negative aspects of the Splatoon community. I can't support another awful decision with regards to Callie. It would just seem like supporting a never ending cycle of bullshit when it comes to the thing I care about most in the franchise. Maybe Marie fans or the less serious Callie fans could stand some mistreatment or further mistreatment but not this one.
Why type all that shit? Because it's the first and last time I will explain my thoughts on the future of the franchise and Callie. Some may care to know it. I think I needed to parse it out for myself as well. If you don't care that much or don't share my conviction then that's fine. I don't necessarily want anyone to agree with me here, especially other Callie fans. I know it's a bit too serious for this thread's current flow. Sorry about that.

There is some difference. Octolings were in an unfavorable position to begin. If you are a fan of them, that was always part of the deal. Callie was put in an unfavorable position (and an arguably worse one) afterwards and the community blamed the same people that would care the most because of a contrived decision by the developers that they never mention outside of a single famitsu interview. I don't get mad at Callie haters anymore. I merely have deep contempt for them as people. There might not outwardly appear to be much of a difference though.

A fairer comparison would be that if in S3, octolings were taken away and added 9 months later with limited cosmetic options and when asked why, the developers stated that it was because of the splatfest results and then everyone else pointed and laughed. It's such a running gag when people slander a nice character in perpetuity out of pure hatred to the point where many take it at face value and even claim to be a fan of that character because of it. A real hoot desu.
