It's been some time since i heard something about it.
The map editor has been completed. Some anons are working it over for bugs, but aside from that it's the same as before.

Just start. Set the groundwork and go from there.
Gamedevelopment is super fun once you have layed a foundation and go from there. I assume you are talking about the grid battles. Because the roaming around would be even easier.

I've made some mostly functioning turn based JRPG systems before so this Probabaly wouldn't be too horrible to set up.
I am curious how these games handle shit like hit detection and hit boxes though.

No hit boxes, it's literally just comparing a single byte. Make the attack create an aura on panels for x duration, and if any entity is on or moves to that tile ID during that time, cause damage/effects. For single frame attacks like instant ones just do the logic and examine if an entity is on the tiles you check. Only other part is since I'm running a a server authoritative system, the actual hit detection only exists on the server but the same logic is run for the client for visual purposes.
