Gacha games have to have good character design because that's what sells. Other games can get away with lesser character design because the game isn't predicated around the fact that the girls are cute. When you buy a western game, you aren't doing so with the girls being the focus. Because the ONLY appeal of Gacha is the girls, it means they must be good, because you're basically selling the girls with a framework around them. It's simply capitalism done right.
