Technically both of those plots were intended to be made, with one being a theatrical project, and the other being a made-for-tv movie. The jungle project was intended to be theatrical, but Nick wanted the more generic sounding plot to be made for theaters instead so that it wouldn't confuse audiences who weren't already familiar with the show. Then the theatrical movie did so badly that plans for the made-for-tv jungle finale were dropped.
