While it can be helpful for an eventual script, the game still needs considerable amounts of hacking in order to implement that in game - and that's the kind of hacking that Kingcom's toolset was designed to tackle.

I feel a lot of Yea Forums would recommend the series if you're a weeb who also used to enjoy Saturday morning cartoons a lot. Besides that, if you're looking for complex in depth plots like with more popular jrpgs such as Final Fantasy then I don't think you'd enjoy the games as much. The plots can be a bit predictable and silly at times but the gameplay + characters are what Tales really shines at, with Graces being a good example (to me at least) of a game in the series with a terrible main story but a cast and gameplay thats fun enough to be able excuse that. That's not to say that the plots can never get serious or even impactful but as long as you aren't going into Tales thinking it's levels of Final Fantasy complex and depth and are ok with that then I think you can have a good time.

Probably an engine limitation too, just as the PS2 boss rematch trios only let you use 3 party members. I guess running multiples of the same enemy ala the 8 Yuans is easier to do, I found that to be the case with, say, Kingdom Hearts II boss switching as well.
I like a lot of them individually but despite a fairly coherent common goal, I felt they weren't the most cohesive bunch. Obviously some absences and late arrivals contributing to that.
