Video games are the poor man’s entertainment (prove me wrong)

Video games are the lowest form of entertainment. The reason for this being is because it presents grinding as filler for progression. An inadequate amount of the overall time lapse of the game is novel (story progression) while the rest is just pure filler grind. Compare this to a 1,5 hour long movie: The movie’s novelty is constant and doesn’t adapt any measures to make the movie drag out like video games do. It’s why I sometimes feel sympathetic towards purely story-driven video games.
So my point goes: What is the purpose of playing video games and wasting your time on this planet by repeating mundane tasks instead of watching an emotionally compact movie? Does the latter not have a higher novel experience value ratio compared to grindy video games?
P.S I’m asking this because i can’t justify playing video games anymore because of this reason

I’m looking for a different perspective, I normally almost never post here otherwise.

I mean you don't have to justify it. If you don't like grindy video games, don't play them. I like to play STALKER call of chernobyl anymore, dont have to grind for shit or anything, tho on the wrong difficulty everything can be very scary.

Limbo and inside are puzzle games that I've heard are pretty good, but I just can't bring myself to play them.
I suggest you look up, Accursed Farms, he has a bunch of games that he has on a list that he likes that aren't usually grindy. His tastes are pretty good.
hope it helps.

well spending time on Yea Forums is an even worse alternative so...

I mean granted
but what would you be doing otherwise?

Great, you watched LoGH, don't pretend to be above vidya for it. Next you'll be telling us to read the fucking great gatsby.

Television exists

Don't play games that don't respect your time. This isn't a complex question.
If you play games that are specifically designed around eating as much of your time as possible (ie, needlessly padded progression systems, stat grinding, cosmetic skinner boxes, etc etc), you have no one to blame but yourself.
Play games that don't jerk your around with needless bullshit, or play games, you know, you actually have fun with.

mfw you can't even pretend to be a normy properly

Nice bait.

The LoGH games were pretty great from what I hear. They had some really good intros too.

It's actually porn. Porn rots your brain and may send your soul to hell.

I don't care.
Go read a book.

all games with grinding, pay2win, lootboxes, spectator modes should be illegal

luckily not all games have this crap

If you hate all the parts of actually playing a game then why are you bothering? If all you want is a story then go watch a movie. The industry is already fucked up enough from baiting in retards like you who actually want a movie instead of a game.

There are plenty of games that have no grind, or games that are only gameplay. People play games because they like the gameplay. Yes, there are games where the gameplay is mundane and boring, but there are plenty where it is not.

Because the gameplay loop IS what makes a game. Most of a game's runtime should be dedicated to its gameplay systems, and unlike a movie which you absorb passively you're involved in an active process, which comes with a learning curve and eventual mastery of the gameplay.
It's not that hard really, you think it's mundane only as a watcher, while it's the exact opposite as a partecipant. Other forms of entertainment would dream to involve their audience in the same way.

>AAA title $60

right....

OP, This is why I only play video games that are 100% player-vs-player, OR games where the grind is 100% of the game, a la Path of Exile.
Combat against another player will always bring mental stimulation because your opponent is essentially "writing" the plot for you, and vice versa for him.
ARPGs and Warframe are more like a catalyst to trade hours of your time for dopamine spikes when good items drop. (1000 grinding item with 1% drop chance - massive brain pleasure - same as a guy spending 1000 hours on Tinder for 1% chance at getting pussy)

>wasting your time on this planet by repeating mundane tasks
Fuck you, I do what I want with my shitty time. If it was up to me, I would've kyssed myself years ago, but my parents wouldn't be too happy about that.

Video games are more like a sporting game or sightseeing journey. They are not meant to be equivalent to stories, though JRPGs often drag things out with winding plots and AAA wants to force stories to coast on graphics.

I was on episode 31 of LotGH, maybe I’ll pick it back up now

>Video games are the lowest form of entertainment
TV and movies will always be the lowest, its just staring for hours. Both literature and videogames require and develop skills, they require mental participation.
