why just them? how about those shitty gacha games too.

are developers not able to just change the odds whenever they want?

Another reason why Steam is cancer. This is the kind of decision which makes console gaming healthy.

Should've been mandatory from the start but I guess seeing that item you want at 0.5% drop chance doesn't really wanna make you spend your money unless you're a retarded whale.
Some games are especially disingenuous about this by having a "roulette" aesthetic which to the average person implies equal chances between each spot which wasn't the case at all. Special mention to games putting rare stuff around the shit drop you just got to give you the impression you were THIS close to that shiny digital turd you wanted.

Attached: 1558215358870.png (500x523, 259K)

I imagine they'd have to disclose such changes in the same fashion they have to disclose the odds in the first place.
I don't really see what this is going to do to help the situation one way or the other though. It's not regulation and it's not a free pass to sell them. It's some weird, beige, "we did SOMETHING in regards to x issue" response.
Also it looks fake and I'm not gonna look it up.

Im not resting till EA is in the grave

Attached: electronic-arts.jpg (550x414, 135K)

gacha games are already required to have the odds disclosed, which they do.

Banning lootboxes would be overreach but this perfectly fine. People have a right to know what they buy but government shouldn't tell you what you cannot.

IIRC LLSIF stated their odds for their pulls. Something like 1% to get a UR or something.

>unless you're a retarded whale
So everything remains as it is then?

>they'll still be in the games

Attached: 1282366764398.jpg (248x252, 11K)

Yeah and casinos could do that too with their machines
But they better not or they get royally FUCKED or they better bribe a lot of people to not be found out

Not if they get less used, remove the things that make it a dopamine hit and it will not work anymore.

They have for years now. China, Japan and Korea already have these laws

Attached: Screenshot_20190807-124358_Magia Record.jpg (2220x1080, 566K)

Csgo is bad about this

>t. sweet summer child

Isn't that already a legal requirement? It is in Nippon at least

They do?

This infringes on game developers’ free speech. They shouldn’t be forced to put content in against their will.

Not an argument.

Probably but not in the microsecond it takes for the transaction to go through I would imagine. Point is that you get this information at time of purchase, not that it has to be the same tomorrow.

Not ATVI though? Can't think of any game I play with loot boxes other than HotS and they work perfectly fine in that game as a simple silly reward

we didnt win shit
they are scared shitless and are trying to appease people with something that should have been requirred from the start
lootboxes are gambling and should be subjected to the same laws casinos are and make it impossible for underages to ever partake in them

Anybody that is already buying lootboxes isn't going to have their mind changed about this. Just like how the warning labels/pictures on packs of smokes don't stop the majority from smoking.

>but they'll have to bribe people
>thinking money is an issue when you're in a business where people just hand you money.
All gambling sectors have at least a taste of fuckery going on, don't be delusional

It's not about banning lootboxes, it's about labeling them. Age ratings are very important for videogames because the higher it is the more restricted it is, up to Adult at which several countries like Australia outright ban it from hitting the shelves
Gambling has a heavy rating that can fuck up these sort of games and labeling lootboxes as gambling will hit these games pretty hard, and this is a good thing because these games likely hooked kids as well as reckless adults to them
>but kids play games regardless of content rating
Content rating basically determines how far your game can be distributed, so it's still less players overall, including kids, and I am not going to advocate for stupid ID checks
I can't wait for EA to eat shit, they're already being sued for featuring lootboxes in their latest rehashed sports game and their corporate drones are at work, cognitively dissonant. Look at that android they've sent over to court when she argued that lootboxes are fun
The fact that it's taking so long for any improvement to happen just shows how badly money corrupts, I can't imagine how it is in America where these corporations can openly pay politicians to vote what they want them to vote

Maybe parents should stop giving money to their kids for kids they shouldn't be buying? Just a thought...

Make boxes count as gambling and bump age rating to 18+.
No major publisher will ever touch them.

>Well maybe parents...
Oh fuck off corporate shill. Gambling has always been regulated and pretending like they haven't been directly targeting kids is just being intentionally dishonest about what they have been doing.

Lootboxes are spending not gambling. You lose your money either way.

Great, we fucking Gatcha now. This is going to quash the rally against banning lootboxes and completely open the floodgates for even more lootbox shit in vidya now that it's "regulated". Hope you fags are ready for more cancer.

No, not enough. Any game that includes them should be rated AO instantly, at the very least. Ideally, every game with lootboxes should require an actual verification by the government and pay the proper taxes.

you are playing the semantics game now
lootboxes are gambling they have the exact same addictive properties activate the exact same parts of the brain
gambling is a hard drug that should be illegal period
humans are extremely weak to it

They will always put as much as they can while it gives them money user, they weren't holding off by any means.

You gamble for value.
The lottery is still gambling even if there are no monetary rewards.

Worse than gambling honestly since you can technically win something of value from a slot machine

how about removing slot machines?
fuck Capitalism and kill white Muricunts

I meant the rally against lootboxes and FOR banning them, not the rally against banning them, lol. Poor wording.

>gambling is a hard drug that should be illegal period
>STOP ENJOYING THINGS I DON'T LIKE
Fuck off, fag. Regulation is fine. Or do you want people to wipe your ass for you too, so you don't have to take responsibility for smelling like shit because you're too fat to reach?

the odds are already a fixed thing. Whether they are revealed or not is moot, the odds are still the same.

Kill yourself retarded jew

Define value.
Should probably specify 'financial' value. Outside of that, there's no difference in gambling and buying lootboxes.
t. not that guy

Yeah, but what I mean is MORE companies will start putting lootboxes in their games now that it seems regulated. Even ones who may not have before. It's what happened to the mobile game market. Now it is going to happen to console games.

not an argument

You can't win anything of value from a slot machine. I work in a casino no one ever really wins. In the long run we always get it back. No one ever hits a jack pot then says "i'm never coming back to this fucking place". Even on a year to year basis the people that are up on us at the end of a year is very very small. Shit we give people hundreds of dollars of free gambling money a week because we know they are just going to lose it.

Not a Jew. I just like to make my own decisions, unlike you zoomer fagots who seem to be decision-averse.
Enjoy your traffic lights every 5 feet, faggot.

Stop sucking corporate cock you retarded faggot.

but what if they disclose the odds, and they're fake? like 1/100 is a guaranteed waifu legendary! but you open 300 crates and don't get anything, lol it's just rng sorry user!

First they came for the mobile games, and I did not speak out—
Because I didn't play on mobile.

Enjoy being a slave, faggot.

Most people are too stupid to govern themselves.

Everyone who plays gacha can already check to see the 0.071% chance to pull that SSR and we still do

that's literal fraud and a criminal offence

THEY CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT

Attached: valve_eye.jpg (350x262, 34K)

Let natural selection take its course, I say.

Except it doesn't. They just turn to crime after they lose everything and shit things up for the rest of us. Gambling and gambling-like activities are a huge drain on society.

>a slave tells someone to not be a slave

Lmao

I make my own decisions and have self control.
You want to be told what to do by your 'superiors'.
You're a slave in the making, dumbass.

Y'all field niggers. Me? I'm a certified house mulatto.

Western publishers will just disclose fake rates and control results.

Which they are already do. On top of an already low rate, most loot boxes game also abuses data collected from their customers, and rates are adjusted on the fly.

Won't change a thing. Games that display odds really hide the odds. They should be present every single time you hover over a crate

>Nintendo Sony and Microsoft doesn’t do loot boxes on anything that matters
Wow fucking nothing

But they run stores on their consoles and that's where people buy boxes for console games. I'm guessing it applied there too.

>Yea Forums cries for years for their precious gubberment to save them

>based corporations end up saving the day

Yikes. Leftypol must be seething. Oh wait, they don't exist anymore ahhahahaha

No. I already don't support dlc/mtx/or lootboxes of any kind. What I want is YOUR "superiors" to tell the rest of you retards what to do so I can have complete games again. What you think is a "choice" isn't a fucking choice at all because people are stupid.

>corporations only do the right thing once the government starts threatening them
>BASED CORPORATIONS LET ME SUCK THEIR COCKS FOR FREE

yeah, you're a based intellectual or something.

unironically explain why lootboxes are gambling
>b-b-but random chance
by that logic insurances are gambling too

I do agree that one should be able to see the odds though, maybe then people will realise how much not worth it they are

you have to change everything to change nothing

Cope

most games have been doing this for years anyway, because it's actually a law or something in china

Ahh, the classic "I have no argument" argument. Good luck with that, I'm sure you'll look back in 10 years and really like yourself.

based as hell

Attached: Tuxpepe approve.jpg (511x671, 33K)

You're a fuckin retard.
You're championing government control over more aspects of our lives and you think you're championing MORE choice?
Gimme a fuckin break you mental gymnast.

Why is OW lootboxes such a big deal to everyone when it literally has no impact on the game and lootboxes in other games have straight up ruined them?

Rocket League plans on swapping their crates out for something similar to a randomized flash sale bundle thing. Basically you know exactly what you're going to get before any money is charged. This will probably be where this market leads.

You think displaying the odds is "saving the day"? As soon as Gatcha Games started displaying the odds they blew up and took over mobile gaming. This is a death sentence for console gaming, dude.

Wrong. Unless they specify the odds they can just change it one day and people won't even realize and just think that they have bad luck

Because they don't get the psychology behind gambling. Seeing their chances are only 1.4% won't really deter people who obsessively do this shit.

I never said I was championing more choice.

I won't be a nanny state cuckold in 10 years.

disclosing drop rates will do literally nothing
retards and whales will still buy them

Nintendo shouldn't have to disclose thiers since it's fairer and they don't jew thier customers

> unlock trees and progression loops completely stripped out for random chance

It's hard to retain players when they don't have anything tangible to work for. Sure you get the whales, but common players have noped out of overwatch years ago. I only think about it because of the porn.

I don’t think seeing the %s will stop the whales that they make a lot of their money from

Right, you'll be a retarded fucker that nobody likes.

REEEEE PEOPLE DOING WHAT THEY WANT WITH THEIR OWN MONEY REEEEEEE

I hope lootboxes stay.
It's a good filter for bad games.

Simply adding percentages won't stop their most dedicated whales.

This does nothing, whenever a company implements lootboxes, their entire management should be publicly executed by a firing squad. That would actually solve the problem.

Project harder, faggot. Not my fault everyone hates you. Stop subliminally crying for help.

Fair point. Still upsetting OW is getting all the attention, I dont even play anymore but they had probably one of the fairest lootbox systems versus shit like bf2 which got completely ruined because of it.

So now they're obligated to tell us percentages but whats stopping them from just straight up lying?

There's tons of businesses and individuals that lie about their taxes so why would this be any different?

Attached: 1563992588679.png (350x339, 48K)

Yes. Problem with this are people who have low impulse control and addictive personality in general. Predatory practice aimed at kids is different from some fuck out there having no control over his life. At some point you have to stop protecting abject failures.

>highly profitable gachas already display their rates as low as 0.0037%
>retards still pull for it
it won't change a single thing
>>b-but it will enter the mainstream conciousness
the mainstream already makes fun about the low odds of legendaries and whatnot
it won't change a single thing

Attached: 1552014033960.png (512x384, 251K)

I'm guessing the industry calls this a loss and retards call it a win while the people who care are bashing their heads against the wall?

I don't want to be a responsible parent: the post

>download mod for game that gives free loot boxes

False advertising is a federal crime. They get caught because a programmer blabs, they're fucked.

Act 2: pretend we care about kids

Honestly, there's no upside to lying. Maybe 5 people will be persuaded away from buying the crates/packs. Like, I play MLB the show, which show you the odds. Often time on the packs. and they've said many times that just because something is 1:10, doesn't mean you're guaranteed one every 10 packs. But people still load up their credit cards and buy hoping they can get the elusive Mike Trout or Al Kaline

Or if the results are demonstrably false.

Stay fucking mad, Yea Forums

NOOO IT'S NOT FUCKING FAIR BROS WE NEED THE GOVERNMENT TO SAVE VIDEO GAMES IT'S NOT FAIR

FUCKING CHUDS REEEEEEE

You're better off not lying about it because that could get you jailed really easily. Everyone who plays gacha has already accepted the incredibly low rates on items to pull, so there's no reason for western loot box companies to lie about it

It's still a parental problem when it's kids who're the main audience for this.
Your argument could be applied to violent games, and why they should be banned because the taboo violence and sometimes wacky humor appeals to kids.
I'm no saying loot boxes shouldn't be fucked, but you can't focus on just the supplier of the loot boxes, you need to look at the kids buying them, and who's enabling them to buy it (the parents)

Nanny state cuckolds BTFO

They literally just need to fall under the same gambling commission supervision like all other types of gambling out there, which is something lootboxes and such have avoided so far.

> radical drug stops 98% of cancer in its tracks
> well better scrap it then

Every little bit helps. I want this shit burned to the ground, but I'll take something small for now.

NOOOOO LOOT BOXES HAVE TO BE ILLEGAL NOOOOOOOO

>mfw all these "child spend our life savings on sports games loot boxes" stories

Seriously, why does your financially irresponsible child have access to your credit card information in the first place? You know how that shit is used so don't let them have access to it.

Attached: DG_caim knows a way.png (216x300, 95K)

What exactly prevents them from claiming there is a 2% chance for Super Duper Ultra Mega Deluxe Epic Gamer drops, but in reality it is .001%?

Vegas is fun. Just because you too much of a will powerless faggot with no self control it doesn't mean nobody else can enjoy a night of blackjack and slots

Youtubers that open packs for views. If they're lying it'll come out soon enough.

I think they always will. Trading card games have for generations. People don't see it as gambling unless you win money, I think.

Technically? Nothing.
Legally? The autistic cult on the internet that now hates this shit so much that they'd prove without a shadow of doubt that the printed percentages are wrong.
One slip up and they're toast if they pulll that shit.

Those are the same people who dont realize that a scratch off lottery ticket is decided before you even buy it. Gambling addiction is literally for brainlets only.

The law. That's false advertising or fraud. There's no reason to lie either it's high risk and no reward.

Does that even surprise you? Entire system that's meant to regular video game ratings, that being ESRB, is literally just a pawn at the mercy of publishers keeping them in business. This entire industry is corrupt through and through.

Read it again retard.

The law did a good job stopping all those mass shooters this week nanny state ameribrap

Based and correct

>Gambling should be illegal, period
I did. Fuck off trying to make other people's decisions for them youbweak faggot.

>Some games are especially disingenuous about this by having a "roulette" aesthetic which to the average person implies equal chances between each spot which wasn't the case at all.
Sounds exactly like CSGO.

You're too fuckin retarded.
What did I post that makes you think I'm against gambling?

That is an absolutely completely meaningless change that will not improve the state of gaming at all. NPC normalfags won't stop wasting money on stupid shit like this and now companies have decided that they've "done enough to inform the consumer".

All we have essentially accomplished is cement this as an acceptable practice as long as the company in question has some (uncheckable) number behind their results.

>37 dead to three shooters
Who gives a shit, far more than a 1000 died in the same timespan in the US

Don't worry, they will. Now that they're (((regulated))) expect to see them in even more games. Developers that might have had moral hangups about lootboxes won't anymore now that the odds are displayed. Cause it's open and 'honest' buisness now...

Pretty sure this is already law in some countries and is just the companies covering their asses.

This is sarcasm, correct?
Exactly. If anything this will just make lootboxes more prevalent.

Basically.
They do the bare minimum to prevent outright banning.
Pretty smart.

Attached: Screenshot_20190715-190753_Samsung Internet.jpg (1080x2220, 455K)

Can't wait for TCGs to get hit by this.

This makes zero difference, I interact with a bunch of FGO and play it myself and I found there's a big "haha I'm such a COOL DUDE for spending all my cash on this gacha! no gacha no life amirite?!" culture. People are so fucking delusional they get a sense of pride out of having a all SSR support line up all at NP5. Hell when Detroit Emiya got censored I spotted a bunch of spics going on about how they were gonna spend even more cash on gacha just to "make it up for the people who are boycotting the game". It's fucking unreal and it makes even less sense than people who spend their money scratching pieces of paper hoping for a cash reward

Attached: 1560780595113.jpg (848x865, 131K)

Here's an unpopular opinion: as long as companies are driven by greed and profit above all else, expecting them to regulate themselves (like with lootboxes) is impossible. Asking the consumer to have some self-control is also impossible as we have officially become a species that reproduces too fast and are too indulgent in our gluttony to care what we do to the industry as a whole.

I am actually advocating government action more and more. Freedom is overrated when the mass public are nothing but stupid rats making decisions that make everything worse at every turn. Especially when the unwashed masses are so easy to manipulate for corporate gain.

Steam can't do it mongoloid, the reason consoles can do it is because it's impossible to get around it. If steam added it they would just be on a separate launcher.

Attached: EBPgxcXVUAEw7v5.jpg (630x584, 45K)

>I am actually advocating government action more and more.
This ends up being no better than the alternative. It's a losers game.

I do kinda see your point to some extent.

>Freedom is overrated when the mass public are nothing but stupid rats
I'm more advocating a system that goes back to the styles of ancient Rome. Where freedom was something for the patrician and where the plebs need to be guided. One thing has been proven beyond shadow of a doubt: the plebs certainly can't govern themselves as they do now.

>$30 dollar lootbox tells you it has a 0.5% chance to give you what you want
>retards still buy that shit anyway

Whales are gonna whale.

>Where freedom was something for the patrician and where the plebs need to be guided
This is what we have now. You're just too stupid to realize it.

Our current government model, true. But we'd need a change of structure to make something like this work. As I see it the problem is that the modern government is being run more and more like an industry, hellbent on efficiency and gain.

The government should be an idealists heaven, lead by people who were willing to live average lives and live and die by their philosophies, not a great way to live in a big house and drive a nice car. It all comes back to greed and the fact that we live in a society that encourages it instead of frowns upon it.

no, they're not and not all of them do.

I can tell you two games on which devs did and possibly still do that, it's only two because those are the only two F2P games I ever played and I sincerely doubt there will be ever a third.
SOE/Daybreak with DCUO constantly changed the odds on raid, alert and then even on promethium and time capsule drops.
When new content was out and people with a sub could play it before others, the droprate for certain things was higher, then after a week the slowly decreased the odds so when a week later DLC content was available to the plebs you couldn't tell the difference, yet forums were filled with low drops complaints.Same thing happened with lootboxes, promethium lootboxes at first had a fixed drop rate of one every two hours and a half, then it was raised by fifteen minutes till they announced that you could them once every six hours or so yet you could only drop two crates per day the third would drop twelve hours later as somehow playing eighteen hours a day didn't granted you the right to drops three crates.Time capsule is pure scam as people wasted 2000+ USD on stabilizers and didn't receive the rarest items at all.
Black Squad during the first month of Xmas event had a good droprate percentage, when they released an update on which you could open six crates a day the droprate dropped to null, Lunar Year event boxes even had less itmes than Xmas boxes yet the droprate was worse than everything, then they decided to add temporary items to even more pollute the odds and now you are just doing chores hoping to not get banned for saying tits or going afk for a minute

I'd say that is partially right. Asking the central elite to guide the masses is essentially exactly what we have today.

The problem is that the guiding hand does not have your best intention in mind. The guiding hand is corrupt and is driven by nothing but it's own sense of greed and wealth because that's what we as a society have been told to value.

Senseless greed and gluttony is baked into the fabric of society, where helping anyone but yourself is always going to be priority number 2 (at best). I am not sure we as a species can be saved from this plague.

Slow and steady, user.

Reminder that shitty companies will always worm terrible monetization systems into their games regardless of anything.

Special mention to games putting rare stuff around the shit drop you just got to give you the impression you were THIS close to that shiny digital turd you wanted.
Runescape did this at first but then they backpedaled because they realized it was way too exploitative, it's clear with them that the devs hate MTX but their investors have their backs against the wall

>Where freedom was something for the patrician and where the plebs need to be guided.
This would be fine and all if "patrician" didn't just equate to "born into the correct family"

Yes they fucking are, and ones that don't should because they are by law required to you fat faggot.

No, no it really wouldn't. The problem is that it has become very difficult to tell the genuine idealists from people who just seek more power. We have no way of effectively filtering out those who have the best intention of the people in mind from those that only advertise themselves as such for personal gain.

And until we start putting power in the hands of people who are willing to put themselves second, we will never escape the cycle of greed.

They're just revealing the percentages, which they should've done in the first place.
But it's no victory since they're still there and people will keep buying them.

Im sure blizzard will find a loophole/getaround for this

afaik they already experienced this in china

nah, the only existing law is against gacha sets, where you have to get a bunch of rare stuff to get another super rare thing.

How is it not?

Add Acti-Blizz, Take 2 and more.

Like anyone will read it. I don't read the nutrition facts on my burgers.

you're retarded as fuck and i hope you know that

GAMERS RISE UP

i feel so enlightened. you truly showed me, oh, wise user.

Good to know, have a nice day.

So lemme get this straight. The big 3 will basically be telling us future games will have micro transactions before they release to the public?

Oh yeah dude, let steam enforce it on overwatch and battlefield

You know the exact chances of lotto winnings (at least i can in my country and you can easily calculate them)
People still play. People are stupid.

Even though this may seem like a small step, EA plays to fight it all the way even after its over. They will likely use their ridiculous amount of money to sway whoever they need to, to attempt to find a way around this. Because if EA has to start showing chances, then they will start losing money. They have put themselves on a all or nothing lootbox plan, and this could make them have to do real work for a change instead of depending on them, which angers EA because real work takes time and money.

>Im not resting till EA is in the grave

You REALLY need to be corporate savvy

Better question is why do so many "people" on this board regularly defend gachashit.

I rarely see anyone defending gacha games but I don't hang out in mobile threads like a retard

Wow it is fucking nothing.
At least make a 50% tax on all lootboxes.

>"by law"
Provide citation to defend your claim.

Fun fact, kids have a natural fucked up perception of probability until well into high school. It's one of the more difficult "natural" things to achieve .

I always find it funny that Overwatch lootboxes are always the picture used in news articles like this. They're like the most harmless lootboxes ever, so it kinda makes the article invoke the feeling that it's not really a big issue.

what does it have to do with steam you retarded insect?
