the fanbase

The Happy Tree Friends writers.

Their weird fucking furry fanbase and odd writing when a story never really belonged in the games anyways.

Paramount

Iizuka and Sonic Team by extention for not sticking with a formula and honing it until it was way too late, Adventure gameplay, Heroes, 06, Unleashed, Lost World created this delusional outlook of what Sonic "should play like" by kids who grew up with each game across the globe, fire Iizuka and flush Sonic Team clean. Also we haven't had a traditional 3D Sonic title since 06, think about that - they've all had viewpoint switching from 2D

When the first Sonic creator left.

What does the fanbase have to do with Sonic Team making shitty games? Retards.

sega, the moment they made sequels

pandering

dreamcast flopped so both sonic adventures didn't sell for shit, putting the games on gamecube was a last ditch effort to scrounge up some money

sonic heroes was an homage to the good times because they knew sonic was done as a franchise

Sonic was always designed to be Sega's mascot, and therefore its status is the same as Sega's itself. In the 90s it was all over the place because Sega wanted to expand like crazy. Late 90s, things were shaky because Sega was run by idiots. Early to mid 00s, an explosion of games due to Sega going third party but they were shaky quality due to Sega's financial issues. Now it's playing it safe and pandering for nostalgia, kids, and merch, reflecting Sega currently being run by pachislot execs. Hell, Kishimoto was literally a pachislot developer until moving over to Sonic Team during the merger.

Decades of shit to mediocre games.

Just general apathy I guess.

I know a few people that consider themselves "die-hard" Sonic fans. The eat up anything put out and love it. I'm convinced that the team doesn't know where to take the games at all because people that genuinely enjoyed the original games don't really give a fuck about the IP. Anyone that honestly does are super oddballs or life-long virgin wizards.

What's funny is that people considered Sonic 06 to be the nadir of the franchise, but I'd take that over "Baldy McNosehair".

06 was one of the biggest disasters in the history of video games, but at least you can tell the developers tried to make something interesting and were fucked over by the completely braindead retards in charge. Now things are too safe and stale to be interesting anymore, like the only thing Sonic fans can look forward to is a lazy rehash of the early 90s games on a fan engine.

When they realized they don't have to try anymore because the Chris Chans and Kayona Kims of the world will eat up anything with Sonic's face on it. Their clammy autismbux are what keep the lights on at Sega HQ.

this IP is doing better than ever, user!

The shifting of focus away from a tightly designed momentum based platformer to an spectacle based action game with platforming elements.
