hey is it a good idea to leave my ships in some abandoned place

Abandoned stations are basically just safe spaces to store anything you want. Nothing will get lost/damaged.

The alternative options are to store in a faction controlled colony, but they will charge you for it and its expensive as fuck or have your own colony which is free to store.

ON THE INTERNET

TO SOME FAT FUCK NAMED BOOGIE

I chased a small pirate fleet into a jump point into my colony system and was greeted by a full-fledged invasion force amassing at the entrance. As soon as I got in they all scattered like a bunch of cockroaches when the light gets turned on. Suffice it to say there's now a gigantic debris field orbiting my star now.

What to do at start to get started
I’m so lost
Pls help

You have a few options: you can stock up on fuel and supplies to survey distant worlds, or you can buy stuff from one base and sell it to another, or you can take a commission and go blast pirates to smithereens.

If you're in the Corvus, first go to the Abandoned Terraforming Platform and pick up the abandoned Hermes shuttle there. Then, check out the nearby planets and try to get some trading contracts. Finish those, then pick up new missions wherever you are then.
Check for ships you want to buy at each market, expand your fleet, then get into exploration and bounty hunting.

i started a few days ago, been doing alot of surveying of systems and selling the rare stuff i come across. my first file i got stuck in a black hole and had to start over, its fun.

What if this in not a thread but a reply???

You are right.
It may be me talking to yourself.

Seeing those little fleets grow up makes me so proud

But don't forget

I alsways like to talk to you and only.

Gotta spend money to make money son. It's called long term investments.

Haven't played since 7.2a, do you still need to change java to 64-bit manually?

Is there an endgame goal I can work towards? I'm pretty much set but colonies don't seem worth it

Heybhey people

I don't think so anymore, I'm pretty sure some update after Alex fixed that.

>endgame goal
Get a lot of fuel and fully saturate colonies. Not really other than [REDACTED].

Buy freighters and do cargo missions. If you see a fleet fighting pirates or Pathers, join in and help - it's not as profitable as killing them yourself, but there's basically zero risk of getting killed (as long as you don't go full retard) and you get a small reputation boost with the allied faction.

There's a couple of story missions, and you can work towards clearing out red zones. The actual endgame stuff isn't implemented yet.

>pirates harassing your colony
>haul your slow ass Atlas II's out to the middle of fucking nowhere to blow up some podunk pirate station
>haul your ass halfway back
>realize you blew up the wrong pirate base and the one you wanted was two systems down
God, why can't we just eradicate these vermin completely?

Just bought an Onslaught

What am i in for?

Colonies take a while to set up, but after that they're super beneficial. They start making money, give you safe zones to resupply and hide from hostiles, and under the right circumstances let you build custom ships that are better than anything you'll find on the market.

Attached: 1472504813182.png (394x529, 210K)

Would I be able to go dark, ambush a bunch of traders, wait until the colony starts freaking out about not having the items they need, then go sell them the items I took from the traders myself for massive profit?

Dakka and whole stacks of fat, thicc armor

When should I start on building a colony? Haven't picked a good site yet but not sure if I should have a big war chest or spare ships to patrol with first.

1 mil is good, some AI cores (preferably alpha) and a class IV or V is good. colony buildings cost hundreds of thousands and it isn't until you've got a few industries running that you start to turn a good profit. They're also completely defenseless until you build an orbital station so you need to be able to fend off pirates and raids with your own fleet until the station and patrol HQ is up which can take months

When you have like 1-2 million credits

You can rape pretty much any fleet as long as you keep your ass safe. Get a few small ships to cover your back and simply destroy.

It's the best ship in the game by far.

>I'm retarded

nice

Pirates are easy to deal with. As soon as you see the pirate threat get back to your colony's bar and they give you the location.

The real cancer is the ludditch path cunts. You may never find that one base you need to destroy if you don't get lucky and find a bounty for it.

Tyranids soon?

Colonies are absolutely worth it, a great planet by itself can make 100k a month. It gives you a safe space to hide and a place to build any ships you want. Finding a good system with a nice V planet and a few supporting ones (hopefully ores and/or volatiles) is a fun objective. It also unlocks some special story missions like the red planet, you can see these because the text will be green.

Once you have a planet then you can start attacking other planets which produce whatever you're producing. I had a great V world with +2 farming, so after being established I went off and raided the biggest farming planet so that demand for my farming goods went up. Of course this attracts more attention but its a fun way to progress and fuck over the economy for your benefit.

Each world can hold four industries of a potential eight. In the best case scenario you should find a V world with farmland and a IV or III world with ore, rare ore and volitiles. Then you can have your supporting planet with mining, refining, fuel and volatiles while your main V world has light/heavy industry, commerce and farming. Planets within a system provide a -50% reduction on demand for goods they produce to all other planets in the system, otherwise you will just import the goods from other factions or you can provide them yourself.

Its a lot more indepth and fun than you first think, and way better than other games like mount and blade with their piss weak management system.

>along with a bunch of others I've never seen

>All these dead old mods, never to be updated again

>See pic
>recognize only the 3 Neutrino ships NOTHING else

I think the Neutrino Corp ships look the best by far, but the mod is outdated and bugged. None of the ships spawn in their stations and you cant find their blueprints anywhere. Also some of the weapons crash the game or otherwise cause problems.

So Diable wins by default of having magic transforming ships.

Set them to escort one another or to defend/assault a point/relay. You might have to group the more fragile ships further back, then hope they don't do anything too stupid when ships are within range.

God why are there SO MANY SHIPS
THEYRE SO BIG

Thats because 90% of the ship mod packs are incomplete, rehashes of the default ships or just ugly as sin.

But mainly they are just incomplete. Diable is easily the best done and actually balanced.

Is there any reason at all not to buy legal goods off the black market? Nothing bad happens when the space popo searches me anyways, and it's not like there's a space IRS.

chink autism knows no bounds

Attached: MDIBwOm.jpg (1536x1536, 593K)

In my experience doing less is more, the default AI is pretty smart and will handle itself well. The moment you start giving orders it will act retarded and fuck itself over. I went up against a single capital ship with my crappy fleet and in my first attempt set everything to attack order, they sat back and allowed me to get rekt, then got rekt one by one. Second attempt I didnt issue any orders and they rushed it, surrounded it and shut it down in 10 seconds.

If certain ships are getting raped its usually the faster ones which rush off, put them on protect orders on you or a slower ship so they stay close.

you ocassionally lose a little rep even they dont catch you with anything

If you buy legal goods with a transponder on in the black market you will get chased and penalized anyway. Unless you fly away quickly, in which case you get away free.

If you get caught with it off, you only get penalized for the transponder, not for buying black market legal goods.

For some reason I never get pinged when selling illegal goods though even with the transponder on if I dont buy anything. Sometimes very rarely I will get a message a day later saying 'Your standing with X has decreased by -2 for illegal black market trading'.

Honestly you should just buy/sell anything on the black market, the 30% tariff is harsher than the small penalty you get from getting caught. Just return to core worlds for big sells rather than small ones which add up faster.

don't worry, they are all flash and no substance.

Good advise, thanks anons

>Unless you fly away quickly, in which case you get away free.
Or there's nobody near by. Or you trade in the normal market to hide it. Or you have good standing with the owners of the market. Or your trades were small enough that they leave you alone upon seeing your cargo bay has no illegal shit they leave you alone. Or normally some combination of those elements.

There's a lot of ways to sell your shit on the black market without getting punished.

Newshitter here
Will I miss this core I found? That's a ton of money.

So I'm a paragonfag and I just got an onslaught.
Can someone explain to me the logic of having 3 large ballistic turrets that can't all face in the same direction? Not even memeing at this point.

With Tri-Tach YOU WIN

yes, you will miss it

>go to base of pirates harassing my colony
>buy a bunch of marines from them on the black market
>use those marines to raid them and steal their valuables
>blow their shitty little rock up

Attached: laughing jew.gif (359x346, 2.94M)

Don't sell. Put it in a colony.

Attached: 1473005943173.jpg (1130x508, 31K)

There's no ship that has 3 converging large ballistics, its just too powerful
You'd blow through shields and armor so fast
Paragon gets to be the special boy that gets so many converging large turrets

can allied ai fly gryphon

the onslaught is a wedge, like the legion. It's purpose is to burn drive into the center of the enemy fleet and knife fight them while relying on it's armor to tank damage.

It depends on what you want to do with your colonies. Colonies with AI cores increase their income by x2/3/4 times, depending on how many you use and how good the system is (mainly how many planets in the system, and how many resources they have). You can quite easily dominate the entire trade market with a good system and AI cores.

But by using them you will have more threats to deal with. Alpha cores are not impossible to find since there are certain obvious events you can do to get them, but its not easy to get either. If you dont have a colony yet I would sell it and use the money to get set up in a good system.

Odyssey > REST

Depends on what you arm it with. It can do okay with missiles it can spam and sometimes Harpoons, but I would rather pilot Gryphons myself.

Based and Asymmetricpilled

>always did a trader run whenever i come back to this game like every other space games I touched
>always gets my shit kicked in so I tried missions
>still get my shit kicked in even on a fucking onslaught
How did I fuck up this bad?

I prefer a XIV Legion. It has three front facing mediums which can obliterate most things easily.

I just started yesterday and I found a Synchrotron Core while scavenging, them 400k looks nice but what is antimatter production? It looks pretty rad

constant free money when you get a colony

Only take trade missions, you cant buy/sell high/low to make money properly. Go to bars, find transport missions and do them, they range from 20k to 100k, and im pretty sure you get a higher odds of big missions if you have more cargo capacity which is easy to get.

If you're just trading you shouldn't be getting into fights basically ever, focus on the skill that reduces your fuel/supply costs as well as the reduced sensor range and faster movement speed.

Should i keep 2 corrupted Nanoforges?

I keep them
pristine nanoforges are really, really, really fucking rare

Keep just in case
Sell em all when you get a pristine one, if you do

Dont sell it, they are ultra rare. They let you produce +3 fuel on your colony planet which is a metric fuckton. It will make you more money than you will get from selling it.

Also do not sell any Pristine Nanoforges you get, those are needed for making ships.

which ship is that?

Keep them, you need at least one nanoforge per colony planet you have with heavy industry (which will be at least 1 per system you control). You can always remove them for free to sell them later, or replace them with Pristine Nanoforges.

Its a mod ship from Diable like in , most of the ships have wacky transformations including all their fighters.

>you cant buy/sell high/low to make money properly
Not him but i literally did that and got more money that ever, went from 100k to 2 million in an afternoon, you just have to look at the trade tab in the docks and see which colony needs what badly

ah i see, i was just wondering which diable ship it was, i figured it was one of those modded ones

>Nexerelin mod
>Join Tri-Tachyon on start
C-Can i colonize planets on Remnants systems?

Attached: sweat.gif (400x400, 172K)

Yeah but sadly this game's meat is the combat. Making a million doesn't help me cope with being defeated by flimsy pirates. How on earth do I get good?

>most of the ships have wacky transformations including all their fighters.
While it would be nice, only two of their fighters and one of their frigates actually do transform. Still a damn cool faction.

Thanks famalams, I will continue my search for nanoforges now while financing my expeditions by selling fuel to the spacejihadis

I like to do the tutorial first for the 15k stipend so that I can hire the max number of officers then focus them on carriers, the stipend will cancel out their salaries for I think 35 months or so. Then I focus them as carriers or ballistic/energy weapons. They turn average ships into fantastic ships pretty quickly and get experience from basically everything so leveling them is fast.

For your own ship go for the biggest ballistic ship you can get your hands on, Hammerheads, Falcons, Eagles. Or a Apogee is a fantastic combat ship as well. Something which can hold its own and take down targets as they come for you. I feel like the best combat skill is honestly just the one which increases ballistic/energy range, 15% is a lot and gives you an edge against everything in your class. The only mod I always take is the mobility one so I can turn faster. Otherwise splash out on the best weapons ALWAYS, never take second class weapons. Take LR PD over normal PD for example, and always look at what hits the hardest the fastest, even if flux is a problem.

The game has a bunch of combat scenarios you can play, try it, try its ships, figure out what you like and what works for you.

In my opinion there's only 4 key things you need to learn
1: how to strafe properly (so you can maneuver out of shots/get behind ships)
2: how to manage your flux (so you dont get overload)
3: know when to back away (so you don't get surrounded by 4 ships at the same time)
4: how to costumise your ships weapons/mods
The forth point is complicaded, you have 3 diferent damage values: shield, armor and hull, hull is not that necesary to be honest besides maybe point defence slots, but shield and armor are very important, if you lack either you are not going to get any damage done and you are just wasting your time
As for mods it will mostly consentrate on uping your ship's strenghts, if its a big and slow battleship with lots of armor, you will probably want even more armor than more speed
But you can just do whatever works for you

Just fyi in case you didn't noticed, you don't need to do the tutorial to get the stipend, and the recoverable ships spawns in Galatia either way too. The only thing you don't get by skipping the tutorial are the supplies they offer you and the small boost in reputation.

Help me hackman. Is their a way to do this faster?

Are Blackrock Driveyards ships considered OP? I really like how they look, but it would annoy me if they are too powerful compared to vanilla and other mod ships.

They have a lot of really good ships, but nothing above vanilla's best ships. And most of those only really shine in the player's hands.

Alright, thanks for the input. I'll stop strapping engine boost on ships and probably get an Apogee

thanks senpai.

Two questions guys

1. Are there any essential mods. I was thinking about doing a vanilla first run, but if there is anything that you all consider absolutely necessary, what would it be?

2. Character skills. I seem so many mixed opinions on whether to go combat tree or not. Which skills would you consider to be absolutely essential on every build? Like top 5.

Why is starsector suddenly getting daily threads?

A horde of tempests with phase lances is the best fleet unless you need to go against heavy cruisers or stations

Because it's a fantastic game, that's why

Did it just recently become fantastic?

There was a sizable update recently but the biggest reason is the fact that there was a new eceleb video on it.

I've been following this game since like 2013, since it was called Starsector and the "game" was nothing more than a combat simulator with 5 ships to choose from and honestly I am happy it is getting such positive mainstream attention even if it is from normieniggers that follow youtubers and ecelebs. It even shot up on the GOG "which games would you like us to add" public polls.

>Jump point is near/in Corona

No, but a lot more people picked it up again/started playing it since sseth made that video

Attention for this game is cyclical.
It gets attention around a major patch, then interest dies down aas people gets burned out after which it flares up after another major release etc

I always max all the industry skills except the governing ones, and navigation along with the skill that increases ordnance points are absolutely necessary. ECM and gunnery implants are good too since you maxed out technology anyway.

Combat has a few valuable one pointers like missiles, maneuver and guns.

Because they're honest on being a dictatorship and has the best music

Loadout Design 3, Power grid modulation 3, navigation 3, sensors 1 minimum, salvaging 3, field repair 3, fleet logistics 3 and officer management are basically all mandatory. It's also very hard to give up recovery operation but if you can setup a colony quickly you don't really need it.

No real essential mods on a first playthrough, some can complicate things and add unnecessary difficulty when trying to learn the basics. I still personally recommend Arsenal Expansion, Disassemble Reassemble, Ship and Weapon Pack, Underworld and Nexerelin before choosing mod factions to add.

Loadout Design and Navigation under Technology, then Fleet Logistics under Leadership are my recommended minimum skills to get. Electronic Warfare and Coordinated Maneuvers are also helpful while being in the two same skill categories. Generally fleetwide skills are important, after the minimum you can take your time to really take in the skills. Others like extra officers, Combat Endurance or bonuses from Industry are also valuable for different reasons but don't worry about it.

Everyone needs a prestige yacht

I thought this game was just about you piloti g your sheep, the fleet battles etc. kill the vibe for me.
Is it possible to play without the whole fleet part?

hmmm

t. person who took a day off work after staying up all night surveying and ended up playing for another 12 hours again

there's probably a mod which allows you to use the ai portraits for your captain if that helps

Fuel economy too good

Static for now
get mods if you want them to expand

Hey hey people

tfw got my starsector fix last month and now there's a craze on Yea Forums again and I dont wanna play it

How far in should I get before I switch over to a modpack and restart?

It's not the first time Yea Forums is having daily Starsector thread, you're just new.

>Make first serious exploration trip
>Find a synchrotron right away

Thank you based Ludd

At least one succesful vanilla run

Which mod is this from?

Learn the basics, then gorge on mods.

The speed up mod is pretty essential, I recommend getting it right away

Is tech mining worth it?

You should at least have a colony up and running and get into big fights with the other factions.

You can get anything from rare blueprints to alpha cores, but it wont generate exports

Meh

Maybe if the ruins are vast or extensive but it’s a little underwhelming

What weapons should I be buying?

Guys I want to put together a better smuggler fleet, hopefully something fast. Should I just get a shitload of pirate combat freighters, or is this a better option?

Sure, you get supplies and I got some forges and blueprints from it, definitely worth it to run it at least until you've scavenged most of it

Phase lances, railguns, harpoons, needlers, hypervelocity drivers, heavy maulers and burst PD

As many tempests with lances as you can find and tarsuses

You'll play 20 hours then realize there is no endgame and you're just fighting for the sake of making numbers go up in your bank account and seeing pretty explosions

>no Dragon-class
guess I'll choose the Renegade then

Attached: uw_renegade.png (300x440, 145K)

I don't fucking get it. My fresh size 3 colony instantly got pirate activity coordinated at high level base I can't possibly take out, and then they send a very large raid with 21 capitals at me (I don't even have one in my fleet). Now I'm sitting at permanent -6 stability, negative accessibility and bleed money without being able to do anything about it.

>Doing tutorial
>Now have to sneak into pirate base
>Pirate fleet always catches up to me
>My scavenger and shepherd can't win in an engagement
My transponder is off and I have went dark, why can't I be sneaky?

Only in vast ruins. You can make colony on worlds that have them just for sake of tech mining, just make sure to not let them grow above size 3, or you won't be able to close them when you deplete the ruins.

You have to do it away from enemies. I you just suddenly disappear from radars, they will start looking for you, they aren't retarded. Also pay very close attention to images of radiating waves from fleets, they indicate their sensor range. You see them when you are close to the edge of their sight, so don't fast-forward time.

Why hasn't anyone modded in SPAZ ships yet?

Attached: GKiLIVL.jpg (717x259, 64K)

should i?

Attached: 20190807125449_1.jpg (1366x768, 144K)

As with so many IP mods, someone tried and gave up before finishing his mod.

>right hook with safety overrides tearing up an onslaught
I want to see this, as long as the mod would leave out those hideous bounty hunter ships they added later on

so I've found 4 decent habitable planets in adjacent constellations along with a mining world with some vast ruins (and a ton of other good mining worlds but mining worlds are dime a dozen)

only thing is it's 19 LY from the western edge of colonized space and I only have $400k in the bank so I'll need to do some merchant runs while getting them off the ground
should I slam down colonies all over the joint the moment my first worlds finish constructing farms regardless?

what the fuck's a seth?

Seth (Hebrew: שֵׁת, Modern: Šēt, Tiberian: Šēṯ; Arabic: شِيث, romanized: Šīṯ; Greek: Σήθ Sḗth; IPA: [ˈʃiːθ]; "placed", "appointed"), in Judaism, Christianity, Mandaeism, Sethianism, and Islam, was the third son of Adam and Eve and brother of Cain and Abel, their only other children mentioned by name in the Hebrew Bible. According to Genesis 4:25, Seth was born after Abel's murder, and Eve believed God had appointed him as a replacement for Abel.

What the other anons said, but some easy basic concepts to start with in summary:

>1 (exploration) buy a cheap tanker ship with your money and start with a freighter. use the int(E)l screen when you see missions appear in the left bar, click the "exploration" tab and take missions there. Stock up on fuel and supplies, and around 50 heavy machinery (the orange coffee machines) go explore, salvage shit, always explore ruins.

>2 (cargo) keep your freighter, maybe buy a cheap other one. Go to space pubs everywhere you land and keep an eye on that intel screen: Take missions from people who want you to deliver cargo (that you don't have to pay to take and don't pay a tariff on, so its easy money).

>3(fuck taxes reee) Do the above two but learn how to use "go dark" and turning your transponder off before you get back home to sell your shit (complete contracts) sell everything you can via the black market for better money.

Protip: People seem to think its a bad idea to use the black market while you land with a transponder: My experience is that you can easily mitigate any reputation loss by a) trading SOME of your shit on the open market and trading the good shit on black and b) not then leaving with contraband. This way I've never actually had any reputation loss for black market usage, and any stoppages I get (which are rare if you learn how to use go dark and pick your route into trade ports) come up empty. There's no space IRS.

TL;DR: Do exploration contracts, do supply contracts (best found in space bars) ABUSE the black market.

And remember: The bigger your fleet, the bigger your sensor bubble. A real smuggler doesn't get caught so he doesn't need overhwelming firepower.

I settled 3 75 - 100 % hazard rating planets at the same time. I thought I had lots of breathing room with 11 mil in the bank but now I'm down to just 2

Go dark in a asteroid field or debris field, this will lure them pretty close as they will try to monitor your fleet. When they get close do S or E burn and ambush them

The only decent planet i have as of yet found is guarded by a big fuck off fleet of AI faggots. Whats a good way to build a powerful enough fleet to defeat them without already having my own colony?i have two conquest class ships plus a few smaller destroyer and such already. The enemy fleet has shit of load of stuff (many cruisers)

Do I take it?

Attached: file.png (907x694, 541K)

what’s the huge grey one from?

enjoy getting jewed

get 20 more wolves and hunt in packs, you'll be fast and deadly

I wouldn't, but if there is a heavy armaments shortage somewhere, that capital could become useful.

Heavy armaments shortages make an almost disgusting amount of money

There's a mod for that.

Hammerhead is deadly in the right hands, and it doesn't cost a lot of upkeep.

Be warned, though, that it's slow so mistakes like overextending yourself will be punished

Sounds amusing, but I already just went and bought a slow ass Atlas and shoved a load of guns on it
Sounds good

Wait, is this game new? I thought this shit came out in 2017 yet now it's getting daily threads?

or am I thinking of some other game called starsector

>Sounds amusing, but I already just went and bought a slow ass Atlas and shoved a load of guns on it

That shit is boring as fuck after a while, when you can't stand it anymore, buy some wolves and dump your atlas in some abandoned station

Awesome!

I Kinda wanna do a single ship playthrough traveling the universe

I added a fuck ton of new factions and ship/weapon mods and now I think about starting anew with even more of them.
Fuck, this isn't even a Bethesda game.

Are abandoned stations really save storage?
Can NPCs not loot them?
I've got some items I neither want to sell nor carry around with me all the time but the storage jew will have me broke after 3 months due to its value.

I want a good all-rounder ship for bounty-hunting and other various activities. It also needs to be able to be fast and turn well. Not a big fan of currently using this Hammerhead I obtained due to losing my first ship.

Me too. I'm fine with this wingman I started with though.

>Experienced player: Combat is a meme, gotta focus on boosting the fleet and colonies.
>Veteran player: ALL IN ON COMBAT! AI cores are the only way to build an actual empire and you need that direct combat control for capital ships to fight [REDACTED]

For me, it's the Imperium.

I still have no idea what to look for in ships or weapons.

Should every ship have a mix of things to take down shields as well as anti armor? What do all the letters in parenthesis next to ships mean?

How do I know what good weapons are to use on different ships?

Is there somewhere I can go to read all of this so I don't annoy people here with continuous questions?

pls reply fags

hey few questions: generally how likely that factions remain around in nexerlin random start? they seem too clustered (which i actually like more space left to explore) and its jsut asking for shit to go haywire way too fast.

also, how do you guys manage cargo and stuff? I always end up extending the max fleetsize to ~60-100 then have two third of my fleet be support ships. even then i have to go unload after 4-5 systems

Attached: java 2018-12-07 01-14-41-08.jpg (1280x800, 362K)

Should I buy a civ transport, the extra crew and cargo seems useful.

I just want good non-military ships at the moment so I can become a trade jew.

you can get your answer by googling the fucking game.
fuck off tourist.

>play game

maybe im getting too old for videogames

they mean the hull is diferent than the base one in some way
(D) are ships with 'D-mods', hull mods that have a chance to appear after the ship is destroyed and reclaimed that permanently lower their stats unless you pay with your liver to fix them in a port
its literally in the tutorial popups

some youtuber started talking about it

Based brainlet

Just skip tutorial and dive straight in like I do, you’ll slowly learn how2play by actually playing

I jumped in with popups enabled
best of both

Is there any way to remove warning beacons
I colonized a system with a warning beacon next to it after purging it from all nonhuman intelligence and I dont like having this shitty beacon around

I don't think so unless you want to go text editing.

You should probably ask the forum, maybe Alex can help.

No, stations that are abandoned are free storage that's also tax free.

I like to use the one in corvus due to the proximity of cheap supplies and fuel in aztlan and naraka

If it agrees with your finances and is good price/performance wise, sure. But there isn't really a reason to buy civ transports unless you want to transport marines en masse to sell and buy them, buy cargo ships instead, unless that's what you meant by civilian transport. You can also install "militarized subsystems" on any ship with a civilian hull to increase its burn speed and make it not consume extra resources for maintenance if you add expanded crew/fuel/cargo to it.

I'll add that if you want to go raiding you should use valkyries as they have a non-obtainable hullmod that makes ground operations easier

>put antimatter blasters on the medium slots
>point ship at enemy

What types of missiles should I be arming my ships with, especially my AI-controlled frigates or cruisers?

would post, but my whenever I start getting a decent fleet the game pulls a "Oops, pirate armada out of nowhere, oh look they got you :^)"

I would love if the fleet limit took the size of ships into consideration
say raise fleet limit to 100, but ships take up different amounts of that by hullsize, like 1/2/3/4, so if you go full cruiser/capitals its still the same limit as now, but you can also just make swarms of small ships

Fun fact: that white suited character portrait is actually a woman

Also I'm still piloting my old safety overrides hammerhead chaingunner (with engine skills/modifications), what is a better ship with the same feeling ?

Problem is that the AI like to fire their missiles way to early

No mention of how all the character icons are browns.

Ok. I don't care.

I don't really think about it since I have like 300 of them due to mods

I really want to raise my tri tachyon rep so I can get my hands on a Doom but they just aren't posting many missions at all.
You can't buy Dooms from the black market, right?

The tutorial sucked for me and I just ran right into the game and having fun just learning from my misstakes

You can, and deserters have them too sometimes.

When and where should I start a colony?
Last time I did it to early and got my shit wrecked by pirates

Is there any good guide for a brainlet that explains what ships and ship loadouts are good?

Save up a million, have enough strenght to blow up a pirate base, find a planet with a low hazard rating (below 150) and that scans as a class IV or V at the very least, anything less is really gimicky

Well time to continue to check the black markets like a madman.

vulcan, no question

That much huh?
This might sound stupid but does selling scans have consequences for the scanned planets?
I found a nice class V planet and I am no way near close to that

Is there a ship tier list?

How do I make my bigger ships more agressive? I set one of my cruisers to follow me, a frigate into battle, and all it did was stand passively behind me whilst I got my asshole torn open by another cruiser.

What character skills should I go for first and what should I look for in officers for my ships?

Keep an eye out for Pirate variant Falcons and Gryphons, they're the best Cruisers overall

there's 2 ox's in the fleet and everything has been raised to a base of warp 9, the fleet flies at Warp 12 base and Warp 20 slow burn

the Doom chases down almost everything in the battle map as well as a Wolf as another thing, but is much better at murdering them
best is that you can drop 5 mines on a ship without slowing down and watch it blow up while you laser a second ship, then put the burn back on racing to the front just in time to drop mines in front of a ship as it begins to jump out

well now i know why mid stations are a meme
>finally attacked a pirate station after being scared of them for most of my playtime
>turns out its a midtech one
>just torpedoed its unshielded back
>it blows up without killing a single of my ships
nice

What is the goal of your character?

Officers, you can specialize into specific ships, if you like suicide bombers, get reckles officers, if you like your officers to not be carefull slow pokes, get agressive ones.
other personality types play it safe, and rarely let their ships reach max flux unless you give them shit orders

>best is that you can drop 5 mines on a ship without slowing down and watch it blow up while you laser a second ship, then put the burn back on racing to the front just in time to drop mines in front of a ship as it begins to jump out
Can you say that again, but coherently this time?

I have five colonies and loads e mone.
What do I do now?

Is steady and careful good for Carriers? It sounds good in theory but I haven't found any aggressive commanders yet.

Not yet

can you commision while having a colony or two

Do pirates scale with my fleet size? Like if my fleet is huge will I get more attention from bigger pirates?

how is this tier list?

fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=13342.0

How does survey work? It's not covered in tutorial

You click on a planet that isn't surveyed and survey it
You need heavy machinery, crew and supplies for it tho

At least a couple of million

>he doesn't have carriers
explain yourself

Attached: Untitled.jpg (1960x1438, 1.09M)

what's the next step of your master plan.

You go to an unsurveyed planet and survey it.
To do that you need a certain amount of heavy machinery, crew and supplies(supplies are the only ones consumed, the other two are generally returned). Depending on the planets size and characteristics you need more or less of these resources.
After surveying you get survey data, the better the planet is suited for colonization the better the scanning result which you can sell for money. Shitty planets with no resources give 1000c, the best ones give 30000c.
Sometimes you find ruins on the planet too which you can explore. They sometimes have nice loot like blueprints, nanoforges, a pilot or administrator in a cryopod or just supplies.

I usually try to find a mission to survey a planet and survey the entire system in one go.

I feel like surveying derelict ships is more profitable though so look out for those missions too.

those are it until DONG updates and we get 1.0 the next day

Sometimes they are rare as fuck, to the point when you have no choice but to go to red beacon system and rip them from radiants. But generally they appear on black markets of factions that prefer midline to high tech.

I got my hands on a doom-class phase cruiser, I don't get it, i'm underwhelmed by it from fucking around with simulations.
Am I just a massive pleb?

Yeah. It's one of the best player ships in the game.

On my first successful run, found an excellent class V planet in the far right corner of the sector. I've got about 3.5mil credits and a rather lackluster fleet that I'm currently expanding (Eagle, sunder, the default apogee and light carrier from one of the starts, a few support ships). When should I think about colonizing? And, should I get rid of the apogee?

It's really not as good as you'd think.
For slow, big ships you don't need it anyways and the small ones can move and evade so quickly that it's borderline useless.
Nevermind the tons of inaccurate and slow projectile weapons in this game.
In 3D space dog fighting games they are invaluable but here not so much.
I have it currently installed but barely use it. I think I'll just delete it.

Colossus Mk.III has the same hullmod, if you want a more common/obtainable troop transport. Only holds 160 crew by default tho.

Learn to use mines, they are main weapon. Energy slot should be phase lances because of how phasing and long cooldowns interact (but you only use them if there's opening to fire without getting hit), medium missiles should be reapers, small universal should be any missiles you want because it's not like you can make use of small guns. Missile specialization is must have if you want to use it.

I hope you actually have the fleet power to defend your colony

desu I downloaded the banned portrait pack solely to fix that

What kind of fleet do I need to start blowing up orbital stations (from pirates mostly)

Sure don't. The only upside is that the colony is in east buttfuck of the sector, so there's no activity besides Scavenger fleets or really small Pirate fleets. What I'm worried about is Hegemony or TriTach randomly deciding that this small moon colony that's never done anything to anyone needs to be wiped out via bombardment. It happens in every single game I start.

like one destroyer

Gryphons are easily the most OP cruisers, but the AI can be utterly retarded with them. Keep them as your flagship, or as backup and transfer your commander mid-battle if the enemy throws an unexpected capital at you. Medium sabot pods in the side, Reapers/Hammers up front (small ones too, for added alpha), ballistics loaded with AA, point front towards enemy, enemies die. Simple as.

Odyssey really makes broadsiding other capitals FUN, other ships just can't compete.

>Restoration for a single damage mod is more expensive than buying the ship outright
FOR WHAT
FUCKING
PURPOSE

to encourage you to use them I guess, or pay a fortune to fix up a super rare ship

For ships that are so rare and require so much effort to buy you'd rather pay for restoration.

WHERE THE FUCK DO I SEE MY CURRENT CONTRACTS
I ACCEPTED SOME CONTRACT TO SURVEY A DERELICT BUT CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE AFTER FLYING TO THE SYSTEM

What ship has the best dakka density in each tier? Is there such a thing as enough dakka in Starsector?
>Frigate
>Destroyer
>Cruiser
>Capital
Note that dakka can only be ballistic, missiles run out (and therefore cannot provide dakka for long enough), energyfags need not even apply.

mission tab you daft cunt
also always tick the important! button on intels you want to do anyway

"Accepted"
Unless it expired.

lasher
hammerhead
dominator
onslaught

WHAT "MISSION" TAB
THE CONTRACT SAID I HAD 120 DAYS TO DO IT
HYPERTRAVEL TOOK LIKE 15

Hey anons, I need advice on fleet building. I struck a ton of money before on some lucky finds, and I'm able to pick out basically anything I want. I'm thinking about getting a freighter for the increased cargo capacity (I keep doing exploration missions and having too much shit). Also, how is the Heron?

in intel

This Idiot Tri Tech is offering me a million and a half credits expecting me to give him two and a half millions in 500 days. I'll just take the money and start my own fucking faction. in the fringes.

how the fuck do i sell shit to a colony, trading fucking sucks in this game.

>intel
>accepted
don't be a lazy faggot when the tutorial teaches this

ALRITE GOOD SHIT LADS THANKS
HAVE A HAPPY WASHIZU

>I'm thinking about getting a freighter for the increased cargo capacity
Just don't get something that slows down your fleet's burn level unless you're willing to ditch it or accept the speed decrease during long trips.
>how is the Heron
Do you like carriers? Do you wish the Mora had more mobility? If yes to either, it's good for you.

Heron or mora are both viable and stay viable even if you can get astral, because it's suboptimal to have interceptors on astral. Hardly any reason to carry them around on the expeditions though, too expensive.

>find planet with ultrarich ore deposits
>hazard rating of 250%

Should I take this two million loan and never come back to a Triop system or colony ever again?

is there a ship tier list somewhere?

It's a good thing that scientist was a nobody.

He wasn't a nobody.

does fighter doctrine stack
or any of the 'all ships in the fleet' skills for that matter

does anyone know any exact numbers for if something is "some distance away from the center" or the other vague descriptions that are given for find derelict ships?

I feel so garbage at combat, did in M&B as well. Too focused on the whole battlefield than one enemy. Always did great with field placement and that was my success to every victory. How do I accomplish this in Starsector? Autopilot and let my wolf boys loose?

it does not stack since only one person you can have them anyway

im trying to get into this, starting as a bounty hunter with the wolf frigate on easy mode
how the FUCK do i win these early pirate engagements
even in corvus the pirates just rape my tender asshole. Should i buy some other ships and fit them with guns? Do i refit the starting ship? I just want to shoot mans

The command skills will help with that play style. You would also want to stick an ops center on your ship.

the player can be absolutely critical in battle and more deadly than the rest of your fleet if you know how to pilot. There's no quick way to git gud other than just keep fighting and learning what to do, the only real tip I can give for combat is to not overextended and to manually control 1 or 2 weapon groups at most and to put everything else on autofire.

What does backstabbing him do? Asking for a friend...

Attached: 1561629476211.png (535x610, 539K)

Don't give commands if you don't need to, hire Officers that fit the ships and your preferred approach (steady if you're not sure, cautious for long range ships, aggressive if you want them to go hard). Never hire timid or reckless. Officer AI is generally better than the AI of a ship with no officer.

Please my lone wolf frigate gets tenderly loved by like 5 frigates in Corvus
Pls help

try not fighting people that have more ships than you do

absolutely nothing in the current version of the game

>posting weeb garbage

FUCK TRI-KIKES
FUCK HEGMONGRELS
FUCK SINDRIAN DICKFAGS
LUDD IS THE LIGHT JOIN THE PATH

They just appeared when I was flying around the starting area looking for stuff to do
Should I just buy one of those cheap dram tankers and do some of the longer distance missions? It seems like there’s nothing really to do in the immediate area

>Losing on easy mode

disable the transponder next time

who else is keeping number of mods at minimum?
i do not really enjoy all this OP/shitty/non immersive factions and shitloads of new ships/weapons that not mesh well with vanilla

Attached: such salvage.png (904x545, 522K)

im just bad at this game

loser mentality

Attached: 1511054851080.png (921x699, 1.31M)

Aside from a music mod and a grafix mod I haven't installed any
The only one I really want to try is that Nexerelin or whatever mod

Can I do anything with Mercantile Convoys except raid them? Like, can they enlist me as an escort?

Been making a pretty good living as a scavenger and courier for the first 3 hours of my playthrough
How long will it take for me to make a faction or at least a decent little colony?

can i somehow what relations do i have with each faction? pic unrelated

There's always one AI frigate left after you're done wiping the floor with something that stalls out the fight by ten minutes by constantly running, but never retreating.
Any ships designed to wipe those fags out?

Tempest with:
- maxed flux capacitors
- 2x phase lance
OR
- 2x ion pulser + expanded magazines

is my dedicated frigate/fighter/bomber killer. The Terminator drones kill fighters/bombers, the Tempest itself 1hits frigates.

Attached: Base Profile 2018.11.24 - 13.03.57.03.DVR.webm (1280x720, 417K)

Ion pulser version (better against larger ships, not as insta-nukey and long range against frigates)

Attached: Base Profile 2018.11.24 - 13.25.26.05.DVR.webm (960x540, 2.93M)

Tempests are quite common in tri-tachyon markets this patch as well, I found 11 of them without even taking a tri-tachyon commission. Just buying on open market.

Please try again.

i never use missiles. having limited ammount of ammo makes me nervous

my prefered combaat method is having flux recharge close to/below my dissipation and never. stop. shooting.

Intel screen > top of it > factions (or just press 3)

fuck me, going only reckless/aggressive on officers has really fucked me over now that i'm fighting bigger fleets

Is there a global way to see what sells high and low in certain places? Obviously if something has a shortage it'll sell high, but can I tell if something will sell better somewhere else without going there?

The infinite ammo missiles like Salamanders are godlike

Take the loan, buy their ships, attack them, claim the planets for yourself.

There´s propably an easier way to do this, but mouseover a commodity in shop/inventory and press f1, it will show you places with lowest buying/highest selling prices for that item.

Ssethtider here, loving it, is there any modsyou guys recommend that don't break the game in terms of balance?

ye, i stick it on every missile slot on every ship.
one is bound to hit

Attached: anime.webm (640x360, 2.98M)

almost the same
I only use Luddic enhancement plus Combat Chatter and some custom one that add some systems to starting area for base factions and some that modify ship&weapon selling prices

>messing with "them"

Attached: jisna.webm (960x540, 2.63M)

Pilums on Condors and Vigilance can be quite usefull combined with fighters and salamanders.

Any tips to get started? Should I just jump randomly and try to find stuff to salvage?

based and shekelpilled

Bully weak pirates.

How do you find weak pirates? There’s base in the corvus system but it’s like a hornets nest

try checking their fleet

guys I'm smuggling a lot so far, but still I don't know how to put a shielded cargo into a ship. it's a mod or only some ships (ofc pirate designs) have them?

potentially my first capital ship
is it worth it

Attached: legion.jpg (1920x1080, 290K)

fuck niggers

Attached: 1551906755857.jpg (532x607, 220K)

only some
cerberus, hound and pirate Mule
i like it
its solid ship

of course it didnt show the tooltip
- compromised armor
- faulty power grid

Do you guys use the fastest start option? It feels like cheating

I always go with Normal Wolf start

He is going to be a little bit upset about this user

only spacer start
>unarmed shuttle
>debt payments 1k*your level per month every month

Attached: Just spacer and child support.png (1437x765, 430K)

the only "mod" I'm using is to uncap the max player level, the XP required to level up ramps up very fast so it's pretty nice

>defeat mothership
>3 Alpha Cores

Attached: 1548435539703.jpg (1181x864, 130K)

I have a cerberus but I didn't notice shit, it works on its own?

I have done smuggler and it was hard with no combat ships

>want to start by exploring shit
>wihtout teh perks it feels like a waste

I always up with the same hightech fleet so I'm going to try a game where I'm midline max, kino idea or not?

My god, I love you beautiful bastards.

i started as scavenger, i think i'm doing pretty good

CAN THESE FUCKING PIRATES STOP RAIDING MY COLONIES FOR 5 MINUTES

Attached: 1496406073125.png (581x581, 210K)

yea

Attached: screenshot018.png (1920x1080, 629K)

>doing well so far early game
>fit out another wolf frigate that I bought
>have been killing pirates for a bit
>two pirates emergency burn to engage my fleet
>think whatever, it’s their death
>one is some kinda overdrive thing
>fast as fuck running circles around my wolf
>other one fires a missle that just goes to the engines and disabled them
>get absolutely raped
What the fuck
