So is there any real reason for the cancellation other than Capcom giving a middle finger to Inafune for leaving the company? The demo was ready, more than half of the game was finished and even the english dub got recorded...so what the heck happened?! The worst part is that it was so damm close and now it's fone forever and people no longer seem to give a shit about it... repaying Megaman Legends 1 and 2 made me realize how much I need the third one...I can't believe some idiots still defend and support Capcom after the crap they did! But still I'm sure they have done worse,I mean just look at "SF V" and "Marvel Vs Capcom 4", maybe someday we'll get to play this...one can only dream.

This is the biggest fucking slight I feel. The entire concept on which they pivoted the devblog to distract from the cancellation was "Giving an inside view of game development process". Yet didn't dane to give such mundane and likely omniapplicable answers of "deadline was missed" and "budget ran out".

It should've never been crowdsourced, on the 3DS, or feature some literal who for a chunk of the game. It sounded terrible right off the bat

Because the only reason it got canned was to piss off Inafune, he was always driving force behind the franchise and expecting them to continue it once he left was a dumb move on his part. They canned it out of spite and that's why they couldn't give a real answer on why they did it.

Seems to me motivating malice would be the very best reason for a letter signed only by "CAPCOM" to provide a catch-all rationalization.

money. Megaman 11 bombed. there's the proof that even as Megaman is the mascot of the company, it is that really much of a worth making a game for it, unless its a super cheapo game

It makes levels harder to design because they have to account for every character. You get stuff like in Mega Man and Bass where for Bass levels are a joke but bosses take forever because he can't charge his buster and levels are hell for Mega Man due to barely doable jumps but bosses are much easier.
X4 and 10 handled it pretty well though.

MML isn't a "Mega Man" game like you're trying to invoke

You can buy the Superbuster after 3 levels and can shoot at bosses in the middle of attack patterns with much greater leeway. Bass is flat out a better character in &bass and makes the fact MegaMan was an afterthought obvious.

Mega Man Legends 2 flopped so hard that they didn't even bother to mention the series for like a decade. Then Inafune tried start some half-assed crowdsourcing project to show that people were actually still interested, but left the company without actually seeing it through. Capcom didn't cancel it for revenge, they just knew that anything Legends-related was just a waste of time and money so they never gave a shit to begin with.

Mega Manchildren in a nutshell t.b.h. maybe if you spent as much time and effort supporting your series as you did screeching autistically about SFV, it wouldn't have died in fucking 2001.

Honestly I think this is truer than most other explanations. But I think everyone's misses the minutia of a timeline. I truly believe Capcom did intend to carry the project forward because they bothered to accept the hype and captive market from Nintendo like 8 months after Inafune left.

They could've quietly cancelled it like most of the other Mega Man games in development around that time. They could've blamed the tsunami: just like the had to explain UMvC3 no longer being DLC. They could've called out Inafune's actual malfeasance to apologize and reallocate the funds the project was assigned. They didn't take any of these low hanging copouts.

Unless the developer updates were lies: they got further funding and approval for a test release (even if not 'greenlit') after Inafune left. It seems like the only sensible reason that the whole thing continued and then was cancelled is because the development didn't pass QA, Whether the Prototype didn't meet outlined development goals, had a bunch of bugs, or wasn't stable enough for launch, or just because they forgot they had a joke about alcohol in the text and couldn't re-submit for CERO approval before the launch date.

It was never greenlit to begin with. The devs said it themselves that the project was always in jeopardy. The public announcement of Legends 3 PROTOTYPE was always a trick from Inafune.
